Design and Build Quality
The Bellerophon RTA comes in a plastic jewel box.
Measuring in at 27x47mm and a diameter of 25mm the RTA is made of Stainless Steel, Pyrex Glass and Ultem. I would say that the design is good with an excellent build quality.
The Bellerophon dismantles into 5 parts for easy cleaning.
Base
The bottom of the base has all the normal expected information engraved, a gold plated connection pin and SS threading which is well turned. The Bellerophon RTA features a dual Cylon type airflow, the airflow (AF) ring has a cut out pattern making the AF ring easy to turn, a black O ring seats your tank to the base.
The build deck – is a two post style deck (seating one coil), the posts have a half moon shape to them with one Allen screw on each of both posts to tighten your wire down. The positive post is sitting on a peek insulator. You have a slot within the posts for your internal AF and you have well turned threads for the coil cover/ chimney to screw ontoAt either end of the posts you have 2 wide wick slots.
Glass
Made of Pyrex the glass will hold 4ml of liquid and is a bubble shape, you have a spare 4ml bubble glass in the box.
Coil cover/Chimney/ Fill Port
This section is made of stainless steel and is in one piece. The inside of the coil cover is domed and beveled with threads. The outside of the coil cover has a Pegasus symbol to one side which looks like it was laser etched into the cover. The reverse side has the word Bellerophon and the cover has a sloped section near to the build deck.
Moving up there is another black O ring for the glass to attach to and a rather short chimney which connects to the fill port. The fill port is handled by two large kidney shaped fill holes with the chimney hole in the center that has an O ring. Surrounding the fill port you have threading for your top cap to screw into.
Top Cap
Again made of stainless steel. The outside has a V pattern cut out, the top is flat with sloped edges, the drip tip hole has an imbedded O ring. The reverse side of the top cap has a channel with a black O ring installed to help stop leaks, the plate is flat with threads to the center for screwing over the fill port.
Mouth Piece
Is made of Ultem PEI and is an 810 drip tip, and is of a low profile.
A quick Guide to Coiling
You are able to change your coils/ cotton without losing any liquid (always a positive), turn the RTA upside down and unscrew the base.
- Insert your coils heat and strum
- Insert your cotton and slightly fluff it
- Dampen cotton and coils with e-liquid
- Reassemble the Bellerophon RTA
- Remove the top cap and fill with your favourite e-liquid
Tip: Allow the RTA to stand before you first fire it on your mod so the cotton can soak up more liquid.
How Does The Vapefly Bellerophon RTA Perform?
For this review I have installed 1 of the 2, 0.24Ω Kanthal Coils that came with the kit and have filled the Bellerophon RTA with Prohibition Labs Mango Crusher. I will be using the Smok H-Priv 2 that I reviewed recently.
Installing a Coil
This is a very easy deck to build on, make sure your coil tails face opposite directions and just slide the tails in and screw down! For those with the Coily Tool I pre cut the tails at 4.5mm, for those without make sure you clip the leads precisely so that no wire sticks out or you will have difficulty screwing the deck back into the main structure.
Airflow
The airflow ring is firm but not overly so; I had no problem turning the ring while on the mod! The internal AF they call Directional airflow system, the AF goes in the 2 outer Cylon slots and hits the side of your coil, personally I don’t think the internal AF slots are long enough as coils smaller than the ones supplied don’t line up well with the AF.
30W
With the AF almost closed the vapour was cool and plentiful with a good flavour, a very decent mouth to lung style of vape; I was able to do a very restricted direct to lung with these settings.
45 – 60W
At 45 watts with the AF open to the half way point, direct to lung style I experienced a warmer vape with plenty of vapour and good flavour!
Knocking the wattage up to 50W and opening the AF full, the vapour was a wee bit warmer.
Taking the wattage up to 60w again the vapour was warmer the vape was fairly good and the flavour was fine, the vapour was quite thick.
Chain vaping
At 60w AF wide open for 8 toots, the RTA does get quite hot including the top cap, the low profile DT does not help as my lips kept touching the cap, however the tank does cool fairly quickly.
Advice
It’s not unusual to experience a little leaking with an RTA, I can say in my time with the Wismec Bellerophon RTA, I had no e-liquid escape at all; the only thing that drove me mad was the amount of vapour residue this tank gives out lol.
With the 0.24Ω coil installed I found that going over 60W I experienced dry hits and a burning taste, I would suggest a lower ohm coil for higher wattages something like 0.15Ω works great for 100+ watts.
Cut your cotton tails short dampen them and mold them into the wick spaces, don’t overlap the deck threads with cotton or you will have problems screwing the deck back into the main assembly.
Don’t over tighten the top cap as I found out if you over tighten it is blinking hard to unscrew to refill lol.
Pros
- Good flavour
- Good vapour production
- Good design
- Very easy to build on
- Excellent quality
- Good looking tank
Cons
- Chain vaping heat
- Too lower profile drip tip (my opinion) no spare
- Some liquid splash back at higher watts
- Precisely cut wire is a must
Final Review Verdict
The Wismec Bellerophon RTA is a good looking tank. I love the decoration cut outs around the base and the top cap they give the tank a unique look. I love the ease of which you can install a coil. The vapour and flavour while good, I wouldn’t call it stellar, however I would recommend this RTA to new builders due to the ease of build if care is taken.
Would I buy the Wismec Bellerophon RTA should I lose or damage this one? The RTA doesn’t standout as exceptional in my mind so – No I don’t think I would.
