This time I’m going to be taking a look at the VooPoo Musket kit!
This is a dual 18650 battery mod that will reach 120w of power, as a topper VooPoo has included the PNP pod tank.
VooPoo was originally setup 2010 as a medical electronic research company based in China. In 2016 they acquired Woody Vapes and so started their prolific journey into the wonderful world of E-cigarettes.
Over the years VooPoo have given us many kits some of which include – the Drag series, the Vinci series and the Argus range, one of my favourite VooPoo Kits is the Alpha Zip with the excellent Maat tank.
What Can We Expect From the VooPoo Musket Kit?
This kit is available in 8 colours.
This is a regulated device that runs on dual 18650 batteries and can achieve up to 120w power.
The device has the Gene.TT chipset inside which promises a host of smart features, my kit came with the 2ml PNP pod tank.
When I first saw the Musket mod I was struck by how incredibly similar the design is to that of the Squid Industries Double Barrel V3.
I actually bought this one for the purpose of review!
As always my views and thoughts are my own after considerable testing.

Design and Build Quality
I purchased the Peacock Green version for this review.
PNP Pod Tank
Whilst made of plastic, the tank is good quality, and what makes this tank special is the metal magnetic base airflow adaptor, enabling you to put this tank on any regulated mod you like!
We have covered this tank multiple times so I’m not going to harp on about it too much.
I will say that while personally the tank isn’t for me, the tank is quite versatile, it gives good flavour and great vapour production.
I am somewhat surprised that VooPoo has gone down the PNP route with this kit, personally if it had been me I would have included a different tank!
Whilst this is an excellent pod tank for those that are taking a step up and want a tank that is easy to use, I can almost guarantee most users will want to replace it after a few weeks.
The PNP tank is compatible 12 different coils, so there’s plenty of choice.
Two coils have been included with the kit
- VM5 0.2Ω PnP Coil rated for rated for 40-60W
- VM6 0.15Ω Coil rated for 60-80W.
VooPoo Musket Mod
This device is quite tall measuring in at around 100mm tall and about 140mm with the PNP on top, it has a 24.5mm tank diameter, the width of this device is 42mm.
The Musket device has an aluminium alloy casing with a plastic action button, it is indeed a very light mod.
Voopoo Musket From the Top
The Voopoo Musket has a stainless steel 510 connection with well turned threading, and has a spring loaded gold plated connection pin.
VooPoo Musket Screen
VooPoo hasn’t given any screen size measurements, so I measured it roughly to 10x10mm this is very tiny and with my old man’s eyes – I need my reading specs to see the screen clearly, the screen however does give you all the expected info.
I will cover the menu system later, however, the system is a little confusing even for an old hand like me.
VooPoo Musket – Body
On one side of the Musket mod is printed “VOOPOO” for advertising, and under the button near the bottom is printed “Musket”.
The other side of the device has a micro USB charge port.
Again VooPoo surprised me, it seems they have taken a step backwards with this kit, I was expecting a Type C port, but taking time to think about it, if they had they included on it could have pushed the price of the kit up by a few quid!
Voopoo Musket Battery Door and Sled
The Voopoo Musket door has the usual safety marks in white and is operated by a thumb switch, the door is completely removable from the device.
OK I’ve got to say this, it’s a stupid design for a door, as I can see many users loosing the door in time! It wouldn’t have taken much to add a pin to the door.
BTW, the door only fits one way, it is also fiddly to seat!
On the reverse side of the door it has gold plated connection points.
There are also no venting holes apparent! The door sits flush so not much chance of any venting escaping from the bottom of the mod unless the door blows off lol.
Looking inside the mod, it has spring loaded gold plated pins, the contact pins have + and – marks moulded into them for battery orientation, and the battery sled is made of plastic.
How Does the VooPoo Musket Kit Perform?
For this review I will be filling the PNP Tank with Flavour Burst “Rasb-Burst” and using the 0.15Ω coil.
Later I will swap the PNP tank out for an RTA.
Voopoo Musket Quick Start Guide
PNP Tank
- Remove the tank from the base adaptor, prep your chosen coil with a few drops of e-liquid! And push the coil into the tank.
- Open the fill port bung on the bottom and fill with e-liquid.
Let the tank stand for about 3 minutes so the cotton can soak up more e-liquid then place the tank back into the adaptor and screw on to the Musket device.
Voopoo Musket Mod
Insert your two 18650 batteries into the mod, following the orientation marks inside the mod.
While the batteries can be charged with the micro USB port, I recommend charging the batteries with a standalone charger.
Voopoo Musket Functions
The function actions can seem a bit confusing at first, but in fact are quite easy to learn!
- Click the action button 5 times fast to turn the device on.
- 5 clicks again will enter the menu function.
- Clicking the action button 3 times will allow you to change the wattage, after a 3 second wait you’re be able to vape at your desired wattage.
Menu Options explained
- Lock will completely lock the device pressing the action button x5 will re enter the menu and unlock will be presented.
- Puff Clr will clear the puff count.
- Off will switch the device off.
- RBA/Smart, these are the mode functions, smart will choose the wattage for you according to your coil up to 80w. Where in RBA mode you will be able to choose your own desired wattage up to 120w.
- Choosing Exit will exit the menu function and return you to the main screen.
This device has 7 built in protections e.g. overtime protection and overcharge protection.
VooPoo Musket Kit – In Use
While not being a lover of the PNP tank due to its propensity to leak, I do however believe in giving everything a fair shake.
The 0.15Ω coil does give a descent amount of vapour and the flavour is fairly good from 40 to 60w with this coil, by 80w the flavour had virtually diminished the vapour production however was still pretty good.
This particular base airflow adaptor whistles quite a bit even fully open, while none of the PNP bases I own do this, it made me think at first it was me, and I was going crazy lol.
Even so, with the airflow fully open this is a very airy tank, and ploughs through the 2ml of liquid quit fast!
My preferred wattage for this kit with the PNP tank on board is around 45/50w in RBA mode, with the airflow turned down a just a touch to create a little restriction.
I have had no problems chain vaping the musket with the PNP tank.
However I just had to try the mod with a different tank!
I chose to use my Vapefly Core RTA with 0.13Ω coils, all I can say is WOW it gave me great flavour and huge clouds at 100w!
Voopoo Musket Batteries
I have been using Vapcell K30 18650’s in the Voopoo Musket, and I’ve been getting around 3½ hours of vape time, of constant normal use – which is fair.
Pros
- Quality and Design
- Fair battery life
- Comfortable in hand
- Good price for the kit
PNP tank
- Good flavour and vapour production
- Beginner friendly
- Airy airflow draw
Cons
- PNP tank has a propensity to leak
- Battery door is fiddly
- Menu system takes a bit of getting used to
Final Review Verdict
While the design of the Musket device reminds me heavily of the Squid Industries Double Barrel, I can honestly say out of the two I prefer the Musket, its much lighter and my only real complaint would be with the battery door.
It’s fiddly as heck, the PNP tank without doubt is good for flavour and vapour production if you can get over the leaking issues it has!
Would I recommend the Musket Kit?
The mod “Yes” however I personally would suggest a different atomiser!
Would I buy this device again due loss or damage?
I’m a bit conflicted with this kit on one hand I like the mod, On the other I think I’d just leave the PNP tank in the box.
Is the Voopoo Musket a vape kit you’re using or thinking of buying?
