The Vaporesso XROS Mini pod kit review, and can you believe its been a year since the company made an attempt to shake up the pod world!

Up until July 2020 a lot of vapers would say the Uwell Caliburn is arguably the best simple pod system and was highly recommended as one of the best starter pod systems for a new vaper.

Vaporesso XROS Mini pod kit review

Then along came sneaky Vaporesso with their competitor to the Caliburn with a name that no-one is really quite sure how to pronounce! Is it just XROS, or is it ‘Ex-Ross’ or is it ‘Zros’ – who knows!

Nonetheless – The XROS shook up the Pod Kit world to some degree, and certainly gave new vapers another option.

So what’s more obvious as a next step, but to release a Mini version of the popular XROS!

What Can We Expect From the Vaporesso XROS Mini Kit ?

The Vaporesso XROS Mini is quite clearly aimed for those who are looking for a small, portable yet powerful device which delivers a nice Mouth To Lung vape with minimal effort.

The device itself is powered by a very respectable 1000mAh internal battery which is rechargeable thanks to the USB-C port on the base.

Vaporesso XROS Mini

The device itself has no display, button or airflow slider to worry about meaning the device relies on an Auto-Draw system and some smart tech which will automatically fire the coil at the correct wattage, depending on what coil is installed.

So let’s crack on with the Vaporesso XROS Mini review and see what this kit is all about.

This kit was sent to me free of charge for the purpose of review.

XROS Mini ColoursDesign and Build Quality

I received the Lime Green version of the Vaporesso XROS Mini and straight off I have to admit, Vaporesso take colours seriously.

I’ve been a big fan of the colour fade effects they’ve used on a number of devices. The paint finish and durability is really very good and it looks really smart.

Vaporesso XROS Mini

I’m not quote sure what the XROS Mini is made from, but I would imagine its an aluminium body but with a plastic base and top-section.

On either side of the housing of the device is two tiny airflow inlets which, you could block up one or both, if you fancy a tighter draw.

Vaporesso XROS Mini usb

At the base there is some small text with the name of the device and the battery capacity and of course the USB-C port for charging.

Vaporesso XROS Mini Pod

Th Vaporesso XROS Mini only comes with just the one pod – always a shame.

But the provided pod houses a none removable 1.2Ω coil but fortunately the pod is re-fillable. The pod clicks nicely into the device thanks to the magnets on the base of the pod.

The base of the pod has a nice big stamp on it showing the resistance of the coil which is handy considering there is also an alternative 0.8Ω Pod available but unfortunately Vaporesso only include the one 1.2Ω pod in the kit.

The mouthpiece is removable with a little bend to one side which will crack it off the pod itself and hidden away is a nicely sized fill port and breathing hole.

Vaporesso XROS Mini pod

The breather hole is really important as due to the coil size, there really isn’t much room inside the pod so it would be very easy to get annoying airlocks, but thanks to the breather hole, you wont have much problem filling this pod.

I really like that the pod itself is clear plastic and not smoked or very dark, this means you’ll comfortably see your e-liquid level.

Be sure to re-fill when your e-liquid level starts touching the cotton openings on the coil. Don’t leave it too late.

Vaporesso XROS Mini In the Hand

The Vaporesso XROS Mini pod system is very small, lightweight and portable and in the hand it feels much like holding one of the original USB Sticks… remember when they were actually quite long?

There is a nice textured finish to the front face of the device where the indicator is, so the texture provides a bit of extra grip as the rest of the device is fairly smooth.

How To Fill the Vaporesso XROS Mini

Here’s how to fill the pod with e-liquid:

  • Remove the mouthpiece from the pod
  • Push your bottle tip into the silicon top of the pod
  • Fill the pod
  • Re-fit the mouthpiece and leave the coil to saturate for approx 5mins.

Vaporesso XROS Mini Functions

The Vaporesso XROS Mini has literally no functions to worry about.

Seeing as there are no buttons, no display and not even an airflow slider. The only real thing you need to keep an eye on is the LED indicator.

Each time you draw on the device, the indicator will glow and the colour it glows represents your battery level.

Green means you have 70% – 100% Battery life, Blue means you have 30% – 70% Battery life and Red means you need to think about charging your device as your batter is below 30% charged.

How Does the Vaporesso XROS Mini Perform?

Seeing as this small, slender device is suited for a new vaper.

I whipped out a bottle of 50VG/50PG Nic Salt for a proper starter kit style vape – Pod Salt Lychee Ice.

Vaporesso XROS Mini – Flavour and Clouds

I’ve been chugging on the 1.2Ω pod for the past 8 days solid and have re-filled it countless times.

When it comes to flavour I’m impressed, but not shocked. The 1.2Ω coil delivers a nice clean crisp flavour with plenty of the sweet notes i expect, but its by no means mouth filling.

When it comes to vapour production and density, the 1.2Ω coil I assume delivers 11 watts of power and personally I feel it could be bumped up a few watts to deliver a thicker feeling vape with a slightly larger cloud and more noticeable throat hit. But the warmth is about right.

I assume the 16w output is only accessible when using the 0.8Ω coil and unfortunately I don’t know how that performs, and if 16 watts is really enough for a 0.8Ω coil.

You’ll have to try that one for yourself and potentially waste money on a Pod that you don’t enjoy. Nice one Vaporesso…

Lastly – the Auto-Draw works almost faultless, you don’t have to draw extremely hard to get a draw and if your pull slowly and gently, you will enjoy a warmer vape and also a little more flavour.

Vaporesso XROS Mini Battery Life and Charging

The 1000mAh battery is quite impressive for something of this size meaning you’ll comfortably get 2-3 days vaping with the 1.2Ω coil.

Personally I’ve always charged this device in the evening of day two to avoid that awkward moment in the morning where you prepare for your first vape of the day only to realise your battery is dead.

I imagine with the 0.8Ω Pod, you’ll have to consider charging daily? But nonetheless a 1000mAh battery is more than capable of lasting at least a full day no problem.

When it comes to charging, I haven’t timed it. Mainly because I’ve always stuck the device on charge early evening and unplugged it before bed.

But I imagine the USB-C port with the 1-amp charges takes around 1.5hrs to fully charge the device, which isn’t too bad at all.

Does the Vaporesso XROS Mini Leak?

In a word. No. Not a drop.

There isn’t even any signs of moisture or condensation after a weeks worth of vaping. Top Marks Vaporesso.

Pros

  • Decent Build Quality
  • Lovely paint finish and texture
  • Fairly Good flavour and vaping experience
  • Pod clicks solidly into the device
  • Pod is clear for easy e-liquid viewing
  • Auto Draw is fast and responsive

Cons

  • Non-Replaceable coils
  • Only one Pod
  • No airflow adjustment
  • Not quite powerful enough
  • Did I mention only one pod?

What could be improved?

Vaporesso XROS Mini

  • Include an additional Pod. Ideally the 0.8Ω Pod
  • Increase the power output by 2-4 watts for the 1.2Ω Pod.
  • Add an airflow adjustment slider.
  • Being all adulty with this one – Child-Proof lock of some type?

Final Review Verdict

I’m left at the end of this review feeling like I haven’t really sold this device very well, and there is good reason for that.

Don’t get me wrong, the XROS Mini performs as you would expect, is built very well, looks smart and has a very decent battery capacity.

But the thing is, its just not good enough to get excited about. Some Pod systems of late have really impressed me. Even some of the super simple systems can raise my eyebrows from time to time but the XROS Mini just doesn’t cut the mustard.

Again, that doesn’t mean its a bad device because its absolutely fine and I’m sure it’ll help someone switch to vaping, but is it one of the best? A Caliburn Killer? Nope. Not in my experience it isn’t.

But then again, I don’t put the Caliburn at the top of my ‘Simple Starter Refillable Pod List’ – that place belongs to the Aspire Minican, the Suorin Ace and the Freemax Maxpod.

Would this device be long lasting and still work 3, 6 or even 12 months from now?

Vaporesso stand by their quality and they are certainly one of the better mainstream manufacturers when it comes to Pod systems, or any of their systems to be fair.

Couple the Vaporesso build quality and finish with the large 1000mAh battery, I’m sure the XROS Mini will last a long while.

Does this device deliver the flavour, vapour and general experience I require, in order to be enjoyed?

Considering there is no option to adjust wattage or airflow, the Vaporesso XROS Mini performs nicely with a nice auto draw and fairly decent flavour. So yeah, its enjoyable.

Is this device versatile to suit a new vaper, and an experienced one a like?

Would I recommend this device to a new vaper? Well it wouldn’t be top of my list, but if someone asked me ‘Is the XROS Mini’ going to help me quit smoking. My answer would be Yes.

Have you bought the Vaporesso XROS Mini kit?

Or have you given it a try?

Hey Folks. Im Gaz, The Flat-cap Vaper. I’m married with 3 kids and I just love Flatcap's and Vaping! I started my e-cigarette journey in 2014 when I entered my local vape shop and got so well looked after, I ditched my 10 year habit of 15 roll-ups a day within 48hrs. Following on from this, my Vaping journey began. I started a Youtube Channel at the beginning of 2019 and so far has had over 800,000+ views. I quickly upgraded my device and that’s when my geeky side took over and I began to experiment with making my own liquid, building my own coils and even my own mods! As a trained electrician I suppose ohms, wattage and voltage runs through my veins so Vaping has become my hobby and a passion that I want to share with everyone.

vaporesso-xros-mini-reviewAll in all, the Vaporesso XROS Mini is a decent follow up from the original XROS last year. It performs fairly well if not arguably a little under powered for me personally. Add an extra pod in the kit, and an airflow slider and this device would certainly get a few more vapers attention.

  1. I have had several small hand held vapes that may last 3 months at the most. The pod after a week or so turns brown and taste terrible. I’ve had this caress for 5 months and rarely have to charge
    Love it.

  2. I left my Vaporesso XROS Mini charging overnight, (it was previously hitting fine the day before) and tried to hit it, the light turned green and then flashed red, I tried multiple cables and cleaned all the contact points, even tried buying new pods to see if the ones I used are faulty. Nothing is working. Is the battery just toast or is there another issue?

  3. Hi I recently bought a Vapresso Xros Mini as a backup when my other Vape is on Charge had no problems with it until yesterday… It is not even 3 months old I refilled my pod like I usually do and waited about 15 minutes for the juice to settle when I took a drag the vape kept on firing even after I have stoped “draging” I read some reviews and they say that this happens when you accidentally blow back on the device or it has been exposes to high wind… Which I know neither of this happened so what could be the problem? Manufacturing fault? I even went and bought a new pod today and still experiencing this problem verry disappointed as this is my favourite Vape of 5 I have excluding disposables🤣. I started vaping beginning of Oct last year when I quit smoking and never have any of my vapes given me a issue like this I’m dumbfounded any advice anyone please it is still under warantee so if the problem persists I will just have it looked at by the Vape shop I bought it at buy I’m sad this happened as I mentioned this is one of my favourites which I usually use at night while watching a movie because it just works great when you don’t want hubby telling you, you blow so much smoke you look like Thomas the tank. Any advice guys? Happy vaping 💨

  4. I just picked this device up, replacing a 3 months old Caliburn A2.
My summary: Vaporesso absolutely blows Cali A2 out of the water! Flavor is MUCH better, I can actually taste menthol in icy flavored juice. No leaks on the pod. Too early to say if if it will last leak free, BUT its nice to see pods are dry. This device is simple, hassle free fill and forget type of a deal. Exactly what I like. Caliburn was nice at the beginning, except ALL pods leak, if it they don’t leak day 1, they will leak day 2. After 2 months Caliburn A2 developed an issue where it would start auto-firing when put to the side. I blew some air threw it and alot of fluid came out from air flow holes on both side. For 1 day it was working as new, and then started auto-firing in 2nd gear even being straight up. In my opinion if bacame a hazard and a danger to use. Will never buy caliburn again seeing how it only laster 2-3 months. Oh a flavor on caliburn a2 was very very flat. Icy fruit flavors tasted sweet and thats it, thats all you get, just sweet taste. Vaporesso much better choice in all categories.
