Design and Build Quality
The Vaporesso Polar Kit come well presented in a card box that opens like a book, as you can see I have the red and black version.
The Cascade Baby SE Sub-ohm Tank
Breaks down into 7 parts inc the coil.
Made of Stainless Steel, Pyrex glass and Delrin, the tank is 24.5mm in diameter and 60mm tall inc the tip and 510 connection.
This is a very heavy albeit a well designed and constructed tank although some what a pain in the butt to dismantle until you’re used to it lol. As most of the tank parts are reverse threaded, I would say that the quality of the tank is excellent.
Base and Coils
A 0.18Ω GT Mesh Coil comes pre installed with a spare 0.15Ω GT 8 Coil in the box.The base has all the normal expected info on the bottom along with a silver plated connection pin.The 510 threading is well turned. The base is the only part of the tank to screw on clockwise, the airflow is handled by 3 slots.
Isolation Structure
Made of SS, basically this part separates the Juice & coil chamber, and has reverse threading to unscrew the structure from the tank section; the chimney is part of this structure is quite long.
Glass/ Fill Port/Cap/ Mouth Piece
The glass tank is made of Pyrex and is coloured, as you can see mine is red, you get a spare clear tank in the box in case of accidents.
To open the fill port you lift the ring and slide the cap over. This cap is removable again by reverse threading and helps for easy cleaning. The fill port is handled by a kidney shaped rubber gasket. The 510 wide bore tip made of black delrin.
Vaporesso Polar 220w Box Mod
Made of aluminium and plastic the mod measures 90mm tall, 45mm width and a diameter of 28mm.
The top of the Polar has a centre 510 connection with threads made of Stainless Steel and a gold spring loaded connection pin. On the right side of the mod you will see a large fire button. The front of the Polar has a 2.0″ TFT Full Colour Display, beneath the screen you have 3 action buttons and a micro usb port for firmware updates and charging. The removable back cover of the Polar has, what I like to call, a cracked glass pattern with the Vaporesso logo in the centre. The mod will hold will hold dual 18650 batteries, orientation is clearly marked by + and – symbols with gold plated points. The removable door is held in position by 3 magnets which marry to those on the body of the Polar mod, inside the cover/ door you have a caution sticker! On the bottom of the mod you will note battery venting as well as the normal CE marks. The Vaporesso Polar runs the updated OMNI Board 4.0 Chipset which heralds a 0.001s Insta-Fire.
The Polar mod has a nice weight and feel to it in the hand, I would say that the overall quality and design is very good and personally thinks it’s very stylish with the red and black colour scheme.
A Quick Start Guide
No need to empty the Cascade Baby, to change the coil turn the tank upside down and unscrews the base.
- Prep your coil by dripping liquid on to the cotton from the top of the coil
- Screw the base and coil back into the main section
- Lift the ring and push open the fill port
- Fill with your favourite e-liquid
- Leave the tank to stand for a few minutes so the cotton can soak up more liquid
Place 2 high drain batteries into the Polar 220w mod, screw the Cascade Baby onto the mod enjoy.
The Polar 220w has several safety features like;
- Short Circuit Protection
- Low Resistance
- Overcharge
- Other Modes inc: Smart VW,VT (SS, NI, TI) CCT,CCW, VV, CCV, BYPASS and 2 TCR Memory Modes.
How Does The Vaporesso Polar 220W Kit Perform?
For this review I am using the 0.18Ω GT Mesh Coil in the Cascade Baby SE Sub-ohm Tank. I filled the tank with Six Licks “Truth or Pear” 70/30 e-liquid.
With the tank installed on the Polar the overall height is 144mm, a bit tall for my taste!
60W
This wattage is my go to with this kit. The balance of vapour and flavour is just about right for me, I am able to get a nice warm vape, the vapour production from the Cascade Baby with the AF fully open and a direct to lung style vape is thick and cloudy, the flavour while good isn’t stellar.
The Tri AF (Airflow) is quite swishy with no turbulence I was able to close it down and get a fair Mouth to Lung (MTL)style at 30W.
Higher Wattages
At 78w while a bit warmer the flavour with the 0.18Ω mesh coil just wasn’t there for me! I try not to push stock coils past their stated wattage but in the interest of testing I got to 90w with this coil before I detected a slight burn.
Coils
I have no Idea of the material used as the only stated information is the ohms and the ideal wattages for both coils. I will state whatever wattage I put the coil through I had a considerable amount of splash back enter my mouth… yuck!
At first I thought it was the 70/30 liquid but I used an 80/20 and a 90/10 with the same result.
Reverse Threading
I can’t say I am a big fan of the reverse thread, the only parts of the tank to use clockwise threads are the base and the 510 connection, Vaporesso call this a starter kit although the threading could be confusing for some newer vapers.
Liquid Capacity/ Isolation Structure
The Cascade Baby tank will hold 6.5ml of liquid, the TPD version is cut down to 2ml with the use of a silicone plug, half of the tank is hidden by the isolation structure, which makes it difficult to see when the tank needs a refill.
Temperature Control
Using a SS316L coil in an RDA base at 420f and 60w – dry burn and damp burn tests left no banding or burn marks on the cotton “pass”. I found that the vape was quite cool with these settings and whacked the TC up 480f to get a warmer vape.
Menu System
The centre button activates the menu screen with a long press; you have 15 options for profiles and wire selections, as well as a settings menu, use the action button to select and confirm with a short press of the menu button or the fire button.
Charging/Updating
While you can charge your batteries in the mod at 2.5amps I never recommend this due to imbalanced charging, you’re better off using a standalone charger.
Pros
- Good looking kit
- The mod is easy to operate
- Both are constructed well and of good quality
- Fair flavour from the Cascade Baby
- Good vapour production
Cons
- Cascade Baby Reverse threading
- Liquid splash back
- The tank is too large for the mod
- No concerns with the Polar 220w Mod
Final Review Verdict
The Polar 220w mod is a delight, it’s easy to operate and feels great in the hand! The Cascade Baby tank on the other hand was a frustration for me! Together they look ok but I feel they are a little mismatched due to the size of the tank, I think something slightly smaller would have suited the setup better.
Would I buy Vaporesso Polar kit again should it be damaged or lost? Yes to the mod but no to the tank.
Seriously the worst mod ever. Charger port was broken within less than 2 weeks of MINIMAL (I usually charge the batteries seperate) usage, barely stayed charged otherwise. Last time I ever buy anything Vaporesso ever.
Stay far away from this heap of garbage, for real.
Can this cascade tank use khantal or clapton coil?
The coils that come with the Cascade tank are “Kanthal Mesh Coils” Vaporesso do a selection of coils for this kit I would suggest you take a look at their site cheers.
