The Vaporesso Degree is one of the company’s latest starter kits and features an ‘intelligent’ anti-dry hit feature…or simply put, temperature control.

Vaporesso was formed in 2015 by their parent company Smoore in the vape game since 2006, making them one of the industry veterans.

Vaporesso Degree in hand

Based out of Shenzhen China, Vaporesso has a huge catalogue, from mods to pods to tanks.

I have had quite a few Vaporesso products in the past, and rightly or wrongly, one of my favourites was the Vaporesso Target.

Other items in their stockpile include Vaporesso Swag II kit, the Vaporesso Target PM80 (which appears to be taking the world by storm), the Vaporesso Gen and the Vaporesso Luxe S Kit.

The list goes on and on and on.

The Vaporesso Degree is still a relatively new product, available on a lot of online stores, it may be a while before you see them in brick and mortar stores.

What Can We Expect From The Vaporesso Degree?

The Vaporesso Degree is a refillable pod system.

The Pod has a 2ml capacity with a top filling method – no need to remove the pod when you want to fill up.

It’s a variable wattage pod system with an alleged 30W max, and a dry hit protection – we’ll get into both of these later.

Both Mouth to Lung (MTL) and Direct to Lung (DTL) vaping is possible thanks to the fully adjustable air flow.

The device comes with 2 pods, a ceramic coil Pod at 1.3ohm and a mesh coil pod running at 0.6ohm.

Let’s get into it.

The Vaporesso Degree was sent to me for the purpose of this review, I will give you my honest opinion, I have been testing this product for a couple of weeks.

Design and Build Quality

The Vaporesso Degree is not a bad looking wee device at all.

It feels solid in your hand and is small enough that those hard edges are not uncomfortable while you are holding it.

The pod access door is held in place by 3 pretty good magnets, with absolutely no rattle, and I’ve found the door will not jump off on its own, but it is not a struggle to remove it.

Placing the door back on doesn’t come with a fear of loosing a finger tip either.

There is a viewing window on the door, shaped as the Vaporesso ‘V’ to let you have a gander at how much juice is left in the pod. When I first saw it I wasn’t sure it would be useful but you can clearly see your juice level.

Vaporesso Degree juice window

The fire button is well positioned for thumb firing. I did find it a little uncomfortable when trying to finger fire it, one of the corner edges seemed to dig into my palm.

Little bit of rattle, now I mean a little as in you will only hear it in a super quiet room, probably with the lights off. It seems to come from the up and down buttons – the fire button has no rattle at all.

The screen is clear, bright and easily read, more detail on the screen later.

A USB charge port is also located below the up down button.

The PTF (I’m assuming Push To Fill????) filling system is an excellent idea, no need to remove the pod to fill up.

The pods themselves are clear plastic, juice levels are fully visible. The device has a ribbon to place the pod on to make removal easier, bit more on that later.

Vaporesso Degree Fire Button | Airflow

The Vaporesso Degree fire button has a nice soft click feel to it when pressed, and 5 clicks will switch the device on and 5 off.

Vaporesso Degree in hand showing screen and fire button

The airflow itself is adjustable below the drip tip, two airflow holes at either side. Opening and closing one will do the exact same for the other airflow.

MTL with this and you will be able to get it as tight or as loose as you wish.

DTL is a restrictive vape, if you like an airy vape and dislike any restriction whatsoever, this is not for you.

The Vaporesso Degree Pods

You get two pods with the Vaporesso Degree, a 1.3ohm (preinstalled) pod for Mouth To Lung vaping and a 0.6ohm pod for Direct Lung vaping.  With the adjustable airflow, you could close over that airflow and MTL the 0.6ohm pod if you wish.

Vaporesso Degree pods

All the pods come with the PTF filling system, this is a real win for me, no need to pop that pod out, play with a rubber bung and get juice everywhere.  We’ll get into this a bit more later, I do have one slight tiny issue with the filling system, completely subjective though.

How Does The Vaporesso Degree Perform?

Quite frankly, I had doubts.

Reading the specs, particularly the low juice level warning, and looking at the pods, I couldn’t get my head around how this works.

Also, is 30W going to be enough for a good flavoured vape?

Using it, I have figured out the juice level warning and it was quite obvious.  It’s using Temp Control (I’m feeling comeback from my previous review about to hit me here).

Yes, the device is wattage controlled, but that AXON chip is constantly monitoring the temp to ensure the cotton doesn’t dry out and kill the pod.

Speaking of wattage, here I have a bit of an issue.

Remember at the start of the review I said “alleged 30W” – so begins the rant!

With either pod inserted, the device does not allow you to go up as high as 30W, with 12.5W the highest you can select for the 1.3ohm pod.

Vaporesso Degree 30w

With the 0.6ohm pod, you will not be able to go any higher that 25W, you can press the up button as much as you like, it ain’t going up there.

Without any pods in the wattage will go up to 30 but what’s the point?!?

Are different pods planned in the future? If not, why advertise this as a 30W device when you cannot physically vape it at 30W?????

For now, rant over.

When you place a pod into the Vaporesso Degree, you may panic for a wee second when you hear the device fire for a fraction of a second – and your finger or thumb is nowhere near the fire button.

Don’t panic, this is the device scanning the pod to see what Ohm the pod is.

I’ll admit, I panicked a bit, I thought it had started to auto fire and was getting ready to chuck it like a live grenade.

At this point after that automatic scan, the device will select the optimal mid wattage for the pod.

The drip tip is propriety, you are not going to be able to place your favourite 510 tip onto this.

Let’s get into changing the pod.

How To Change The Vaporesso Degree Pod

It is really quite easy:

  • Take the back door off (It has the V window)

Vaporesso Degree remove door

  • Pull the Ribbon, just like some battery devices to remove

Vaporesso Degree pull ribbon

  • The pod pops out

Vaporesso Degree remove pod

  • Take off protective sticker from bottom of new pod

Vaporesso Degree pod base

  • Place replacement pod in ensuring the ribbon is placed correctly

Vaporesso Degree insert pod

  • Fill using the PTF

That’s it, let it sit/prime for 5 minutes and you are good to go.

Very quickly on the ribbon, it is very important to make sure you place this correctly, trust me, it is not fun trying to get that pod out of you don’t have the ribbon placed behind it.

How to fill the Vaporesso Degree

Easiest refill ever as long as you are using a bottle and not a dripper tube:

  • place bottle nozzle on PTF port
  • Push down and squeeze

filling pod

Seriously, that’s it, really doesn’t get any easier than that.

If your juice bottle does have a dripper tube, you even get an empty 10ml bottle that you can place your juice in to use with the PTF.

Vaporesso Degree Flavour and Vapour Production

I always use the same juices in all reviews to keep the scoring consistent. The juices used where Pure Mist 50/50, Vampire Vape Pinkman 60/40, Excision Harambe 70/30 and Riot Squads Riot Salt Bubble gum which is a 50/50 nic salt.

Starting with MTL and the 1.3ohm pod.

The Pure Mist tobacco flavour came through exceptionally well, I do believe this would have been a perfect 10 out of 10 if I could have got an extra watt or two out of the pod.  I feel I can only give this an 8 out of 10.

The Vampire Vape Pinkman I find is a very forgiving juice, at 12.5 Watts this was completely spot on – 10 out of 10.

The Excision Harambe, which is a 70/30 mix, the flavour was good.  Initially the pod did struggle with the juice mix, and I did get a low juice warning a couple of times even with the pod completely full – 7 out of 10.

e-liquid

All MTL vape gave an good vapour production, not at hot box levels, what MTL vape is?

For the 0.6ohm pod I stuck with DIL vaping.  Using the Excision Harambe, Drip Hack Brain Twister and Titanic Vapors Captains Custard Lemon Curd.  All are a 70/30 mix.

Flavour levels for all were around the same level, 7 out of 10.  Again as with the 1.3ohm coil, the I got that low juice warning a couple of times, this does disappear once the pod settles in, that missing 5w could have really made a difference here.

Vapour production is alright depending on what e-liquid you’re using, you are not going to fog out a room with this.

Vaporesso Degree Pod Life

Hard to judge this, I used each pod a week about.

Each one after a solid week of use shows no sign of a drop in performance.  The temp control safety feature will definitely help in extending the life of your pod.

This is a good thing considering the pods seem to be a little pricier than others in the market.

Vaporesso Degree Airflow | Draw

The airflow for MTL is spot on, you can close off the airflow to make it as restrictive as you need, still vapeable even when fully closed but very restricted.

pod Airflow

For DTL, fully open it is a restrictive vape and in no way airy at all.

Juice Consumption

The pods are quite fickle when it comes to using the juice, I found myself only filling the pods once maybe twice a day with either pod.  With that filling sytem though, it really isn’t a hassle.

Vaporesso Degree Vapour Production

It’s OK, again you are not going to hotbox your living room with this.

I’m comparing the vapour production against the juice and the wattage I’m able to vape at.

Beginning to feel like a broken record here but I believe the vapour production would improve if I had full control of the wattage I was vaping at.

Vaporesso Degree Battery Life

Quite frankly the battery life is excellent,  I was getting a full day out of it and not needing to charge half way through the day.

In the off chance you do, you can still vape on it when it is plugged in – pass-thru. Charging from flat will only take a couple of hours as well.

Charging the Vaporesso Degree is simple, plug in the USB to the port and away it goes.

pod Charging

Vaporesso Degree Screen

The screen is clear and easily read, and you have the wattage, Ohms, battery indicator and puff count on display.

screen

The screen can be flipped by pressing the fire and up buttons at the same time.

Pressing the fire button 3 times locks the up and down buttons but will still fire.

Resetting the puff count can be achieved by pressing the up and down buttons at the same time.

Pros

  • PTF filling system
  • light and compact
  • Temp Control Protection
  • Stylish designs
  • Clear screen

Cons

  • Can’t use full wattage
  • Pods are a little pricey

Final Review Verdict

This really had the potential of being a great little device.  It is alright but it takes a little too much control away with the wattage.

Honestly, I was shocked with the flavour I was getting from 25w, the mesh coil is definitely helping with this, although I am confident, if I was able to choose the full 30w, the flavour would have been excellent.

There could be a couple of reasons why Vaporesso chose to do this, to extend pod life or to extend battery life.

The device itself looks great, comfortable to hold in the hand and use, when thumb firing.

I mentioned earlier about a subjective issue with the PTF.

So, there is a good chance you will keep this in your pocket when not in use.

There is no cover over that PFT port, so what is to stop a bit of pocket fluff or dirt bunging up that port?

Any dust or dirt that settles on that port in-between fills could get pushed into your pod when filling, all that was required is a small bung covering the port hole, issue gone.

Big question, am I going to recommend the Vaporesso Degree? Yes, to a brand new vaper, especially someone that has no experience of wattage.

Look, a new vaper is more than likely going to start with MTL, with the right juice selection, this device is spot on, it’s easy to fill and the wattage is selected for you with a little bit of play.

They will also have that opportunity of trying DTL vaping at some point with the 0.6ohm pod.

Hardened veteran vapers are NOT going to go for this little thing, the wattage restriction is just going to irritate them and it will just sit on the shelf.

vaporesso-degree-reviewA good device for new inexperienced vapers. The hardcore, not so much, 5 Watts can easily be the difference between good and excellent. I think this device proves that.
