UK Midwives Say Vaping When Pregnant Is Less Risky Than Smoking
The Royal College of Midwives says whilst quitting both is preferable, vaping is a far healthier option than smoking during pregnancy and when breastfeeding.
The organization has released a new position statement – a follow up to the advice they gave, and which I reported on, back in 2016, and which I followed up with a couple of articles including: Vaping Whilst Pregnant – New Study Says It’s MUCH Safer For Mom and Baby Than Smoking.
The mainstream media latched onto this suggesting the RCM was ‘telling’ pregnant women to use e-cigs to quit…a point Martin Dockrell from Public Health England pointed out in this tweet:
What does @MidwivesRCM really advise on #vaping? Not quite as @thesun reports. “If a pregnant woman who has been smoking chooses vaping and it helps her to quit smoking and stay smokefree, she should be supported to do so.” https://t.co/jtblBo3foy
— Martin Dockrell (@SwitchFinder) May 31, 2019
To clarify the RCM says:
Quitting smoking is one of the best things a woman and her partner can do to protect their baby’s health through pregnancy and beyond.
E-cigarettes contain some toxins, but at far lower levels than found in tobacco smoke.
If a pregnant woman who has been smoking chooses to use an e-cigarette (vaping) and it helps her to quit smoking and stay smokefree, she should be supported to do so.
If a woman has switched completely to vaping and is not smoking at all, she should be recorded as a non-smoker.
Based on the available evidence on e-cigarette safety, there is no reason to believe that use of an e-cigarette has any adverse effect on breastfeeding.
Vaping should continue if it is helpful to quitting smoking and staying smokefree.
I do like this point from the statement:
If a woman has switched completely to vaping and is not smoking at all, she should be recorded as a non-smoker.
That should be included in all studies and surveys of smokers who have completely quit and really show the impact e-cigs are having.
It’s an excellent report and one I urge you to read.

Nevada Looking To Impose 30% Tax On Vape Products
Once the playground of the Mafia and now the gambling capital of the world, Las Vegas is planning a huge tax hike on all things vape.
The figure mentioned is a whopping 30% and state politicians say the tax is meant to tackle the supposed ‘teen vape epidemic’.
State Senator Julia Ratti said:
High school use of these products has increased 78 percent in one year.
The goal is to reduce usage by raising the price. I am very clear about that.
The intent here is to disrupt the industry.
And sod adult smokers trying to quit smoking I suppose.
Plus the 78% figure bandied around is not quite true – some kids have tried e-cigarettes once and falsely been added to stats, therefore showing a rise…honest answers rather than vape addicts.
Nevada Vaping Association President Alex Mazzola said – like most of us – he really doesn’t want to see underage kids vaping, plus the law already bans them from buying/using e-cigs adding:
I would say it is an enforcement issue and for some reason they are not enforcing it.
The tax could bring in a jackpot of $8million per year and swell the state’s coffers, however, time is running out to get the tax law passed as the legislature ends on June 3rd [tommorow].
No doubt they’ll try again when it returns.
Eliminate Tobacco and Prevent Lung Cancer Says WHO
World No Tobacco Day passed by with hardly a whisper and certainly no mention of the benefits of switching to e-cigs.
As I’ve reported often the World Health Organization still steadfastly refuses to accept vaping as a far healthier alternative to lit tobacco…the reasons are open to speculation lol…
The theme this year was 90% of all lung cancers could be prevented if lit tobacco was eradicated.
The WHO released a new study to coincide with the ‘day of action’ called: European tobacco use – trends report 2019
Kristina Mauer-Stender, Programme Manager for Tobacco Control at WHO/Europe said:
There is a huge potential to improve health by implementing policies that we know are effective, such as increasing taxation, using plain packaging, banning advertising and eliminating exposure to second-hand smoke.
Without countries taking action, we will miss the opportunity to use tobacco control as a major lever for improving public health.
Might I suggest taxation and plain packaging has done NOTHING to curb smoking levels in I dunno, say Australia, where recent figures show in some states smoking is on the increase and despite some of the highest tax levels in the world!
Might I also suggest that the WHO gets off its high horse and seriously looks at the healthier benefits of smokers switching to e-cigarettes…
Not much to ask from the so-called ‘guardians of world health’ surely…
Chicago Could Ban Vaping In Public Spaces
It’s taken a while but Chicago politicians look likely to ban vaping in public.
The Senate Bill 1864 was introduced back in March but was brought back to the committee for ‘amendments’.
The bill’s backers say they are concerned at both the apparent teen vape epidemic and the health effects of what they call second hand ‘smoke’ from e-cigarettes.
Kathy Drea, vice president of the American Lung Association of the Upper Midwest told politicians:
Electronic cigarettes are completely unregulated tobacco products that have been sold in the United States for a little over a decade.
Because there has been no (Food and Drug Administration) review of the products on the market, we do not know what is in each individual product.
Senator Terry Link – the bill’s sponsor said:
We have an epidemic because these young kids are using these in the school systems
I’ve had mayors, I’ve had school principals, I’ve had school superintendents, I’ve had teachers talk to me: Figure out a way to get these out of our schools.
Pro vaping lobbyist Craig Kitson said:
The Smoke-Free Act is about protecting others from the dangers of smoke from combustible tobacco.
I think we all can agree that it is very necessary to have the Smoke-Free Act here in Illinois.
To add vaping products into this legislation ignores the basic fact that vapor products do not contain smoke.
Absolutely, and of course, the politicians are ignoring another scientific fact – there’s absolutely NO proof second-hand vapour is harmful and this has been reported zillions of times now…
The bill has now left the committee and will be read at the full senate soon…
New FDA Chief Slammed For ‘Inaction’ Over E-cigs
He’s only been in the job as acting FDA commissioner for a few weeks, but Norman ‘Ned’ Sharpless has already invoked the wrath of the bat shit crazy anti-vape brigade.
In this case it’s vape slayer and Democratic Senator Dick Durbin who has become the rally point for those looking to ban all things vape.
The headline seeking senator met with ‘Ned’ last week and says he doubts the temporary FDA supremo has the mindset to tackle the supposed teen vaping epidemic…especially his call to stop JUUL from telling smokers to quit using the product!
After the meeting Durbin told the media the meeting was:
…one of the most alarming and disappointing meetings in my time in public service.
Good…one might say lol.
The FDA said it was already tackling the ‘epidemic’ and that Sharpless would contact Durbin directly.
Let’s hope our Ned has the balls to stand up for the vapers and smokers of America.
Washington Vape ‘Sin Tax’ Bill Passed
Vapers in the state of Washington will now have to pay more for vape gear and local shops may be forced to close losing hundreds of jobs.
I reported earlier this month the state was considering slapping a tax on vaping and last week politicians pushed the legislation through.
This says insiders could decimate the local vape shops and mean a 60ml bottle of e-liquid could cost $5.40 more and a packet of JUUL pods would see at least a rise of $1.
As most of us know bricks and mortar vape shops have tiny profit margins with e-liquid, pods, coils and cotton the main earners.
Unbelievable…
Vape Company Sued For “Selling To and Targetting Minors”
Eonsmoke – a vape company making pod kits and ‘JUUL styled accessories’ has received a lawsuit from the state of Massachusetts for allegedly marketing and selling to minors.
Eonsmokes says it has stopped selling its products online in Massachusetts and had taken steps to combat youth vaping including tough age verification.
Attorney Maura Healey told the Boston Globe the lawsuit came after the company had ‘blatantly’ targeted kids on social media including a caption on one JUUL styled device that read: Mom! It’s a USB drive!!
Jesus H Christ…bangs head…
I just had a look at the company’s website and they do sell funky looking stickers that can be applied to JUUL devices…
As to if that encourages kids to vape who knows…but in the current atmosphere over the pond companies really need to be smarter than this IMHO…
JUUL Plans Bricks and Mortar Stores
The vape giant JUUL is currently mulling over plans to open its first shop in America.
A company spokesman said:
We haven’t made a decision to open retail locations, but are exploring it.
Houston and Dallas are at the top of the list.
There’s no word from the company as to why they’ve targeted Houston, however media reports suggest it’s due to the states high smoking rates.
It’s obviously a natural step for a company holding 75% of the US vape market and follows IQOS who have opened a number of ‘pop-up’ shops around the world.
Love Island Bans Vaping and Smoking
BREAKING: [lol]…I reported last year that after complaints of too much smoking on Love Island, a box full of e-cigarettes was helicoptered in by those clever guys over at Totally Wicked.
This year veiwers enjoying the ‘steamy’ goings on on the popular TV show will not be seeing any of them smoking or vaping before or after any ‘slap and tickle’…God I sound like a writer for a Carry On film lol.
The horny kids will now have to smoke in a ‘private’ area away from the prying eyes of viewers a move which Penny Woods, Chief Executive of the British Lung Foundation is delighted with lol.
She told the Daily Star:
ITV’s decision to ban smoking inside the Love Island villa and restrict contestants from taking cigarette breaks on their own is very welcome.
It shows a commitment not just to the health and wellbeing of Love Island’s stars but also to the health and wellbeing of the show’s audience, who may be influenced by the contestants’ behaviour.
Yeah we wouldn’t want anyone smoking or vaping post coital on TV…the message that gives is horrendous…
Though of course poncing around half naked in a bid to shag anything that moves and get 15 minutes of fame is of course perfectly aceptable…
Me an anti reality TV prude?
Naw…lol…
and finally…Aladdin’s Lamp…Rub It Or Vape It?
If you’ve ever wanted to vape on Aladdin’s lamp your wish is now your command…maybe 😉
Online retailer Firebox has just put up the Aladdin’s Lamp E-cigarette…
Is this yet another vape spoof…read on to find out… 😛
Fake or otherwise, I’m pretty sure the Disney lawyers might appear in a puff of lawsuit smoke quicker than you can say “Genie Of the Lamp” lol…
And I’m very sure the anti-vape crowd will be rubbing their hands in glee…
Anyway, don’t come for me, I just report the vaping news lol.
And yeah, and in the spirit of the lamp and the and finally section of the vape news…try putting it into the cart…
POOOF! It’s gone 🙂
