UK based brand Vapestick have gone from strength to strength over the last couple of years to a position where they are now one of the most popular electronic cigarette brands in the country.
We have previously reviewed the Classic Vapestick kit (which was just OK) and the Vapestick XL, which for us was a great cig-a-like e cig kit.
So that brings us to the Vapestick Max which is a refillable Clearomiser kit, an entry level EGO style kit.
I didn’t buy the Vapestick Max e cig kit, it was sent free of charge for the purposes of this review but as always this will not effect our opinion of the product, our opinion is our own. Onto the review…
Packaging / Presentation
Professional looking, tidy presentation box that contains the following:
- 1 x 650 mAh Manual Battery
- 1 x Clearomiser
- 1 x 10ml Bottle of Tobacco E-liquid
- USB Charger
Battery
The Vapestick MAX electronic cigarette comes with one 650 mAh battery. This battery has a slightly different feel to many of the other batteries I have come across in these types of kits, it has a very smooth finish that feels really good in the hand.
The firing button is plastic but the rounded edges make it comfortable to use.
Compared to the recently reviewed Blu Cigs MyBlu starter kit the battery seems tiny! OK maybe tiny is a bit of a stretch but it is nice compact size.
The battery is rated with a capacity of 650 mAh which is pretty standard and was seeing me through around 5-6 hours of vaping.
The battery is decent quality but for me the Vapestick branding on the side is a touch ‘in your face’ and while the glowing ‘V’ on the base is a nice touch it does create a slightly rounded end which doesn’t allow you to stand your e cigarette on it’s end.
I know… The latter is a strange point to bring up, it is very much a personal preference kind of thing and doesn’t effect the performance overall.
They do actually sell a suction stand for the e cig so if you think this might bother you then add one to your order!
The batteries threading is a bit on the annoying side, although for new users this really won’t be an issue.
The threading allows for third party tanks to be used (510/EGO) albeit a little ill fitting. Try and use a Vapestick Clearomiser on a third party battery and it’s pretty much a no go, it doesn’t work. Like I said not an issue for most though.
A feature that is good to see a spring loaded pin which can help avert issues with screwing clearomisers in too tightly. There is also the standard 5click on/5 click off function.
Vapestick MAX Replacement Batteries
While the Vapestick Max battery performs well I always recommend buying a second battery to use in rotation. This is great for when one battery is charging, you really don’t want to risk being left without a functioning e cig!
Vapestick do offer MAX batteries for sale separately but rather strangely not the 650 mAh battery that comes with this kit. What they do offer is a larger capacity (900 mAh) battery for extra vaping life.
If budget allows consider getting yourself one of these.
Overall – The batteries have a smooth feel to them that is good in the hand, performance is good as expected from the 650 mAh battery. The only thing I didn’t really like was the branding on the side, this of course is a personal preference though.
Flavour/Vapour
The Vapestick Max kit comes with one disposable clearomiser, simply meaning once the flavour of your e-liquid starts to turn then you throw it a way and replace with a whole new unit.
The Max clearomiser is blue which I suppose is to give it a touch of individuality from all the clear tanks that are about.
The clearomiser is dead easy to fill, simply remove the mouthpiece and drip the e-liquid down the wall of the clearo avoiding the tube in the centre.
The tank holds 1.6ml of liquid, after filling just let the wicks soak up the juice for five minutes and you are ready to go, simple as that.
One thing I will say though (after saying they are dead easy to fill) is that these bottles are pretty hard!
It’s like a mini workout trying to squeeze the juice out of these! Or maybe I’m just a bit of a weakling!
Edit: Since writing this I have been informed they now have easier to squeeze bottles.
That aside, the clearomiser performed well, I didn’t experience any dry/burnt hits and the flavours came through nicely.
Flavours
Talking of flavours, like a lot of clearomiser kits, the MAX comes with a tobacco e juice flavour as standard, in this case Leaf Tobacco.
I have to say I don’t really vape Tobacco flavours anymore but this is quite a realistic version and gives out a good throat kick and a decent amount of vapour.
They do have a massive range of e-juice though if you fancy experimenting with flavours.
I won’t list them all here as you can see them on their website but just a few of the interesting ones for me were Pear Drop, Bubblegum and Blueberry Ice. I may need to give these a go soon!
My one gripe here would be the nicotine strengths available, they only have 1.8% and 2.4%. For new vapers this is fine as you need to be sure you are getting a satisfactory nicotine hit.
For me though, these are too strong, I started on these strengths myself but over the years I’ve reduced my nicotine strength to around 0.6%. It would be good to see an option to allow vapers to gradually work their way down the scale.
Overall – The clearomiser works well and is easy to fill, barring the hardest e-liquid bottles I’ve seen. If you can see yourself vaping anything but Tobacco flavours then there is a big selection to choose from although these need to be bought separately.
Vapestick Guarantee/Warranty
Non-faulty goods can be returned within 7 days at your cost. Not as a good a returns policy as some of their closest competitors it has to be said.
It also doesn’t state if you can try the kit before returning, I would say not but check the Vapestick website for the full terms.
Customer Service
Vapestick can be contacted by email or free phone number (UK). They also have Twitter and Facebook accounts.
Pros
- Price is very good.
- The 650 mAh battery performs well and should see light vapers through 4-5 hours of vaping.
- Leaf Tobacco flavour is good.
- Plenty of other e-liquid flavours available should you wish to move away from tobacco.
- Nice, quality build.
Cons
- Lowest nicotine level is 18mg.
- Heavy smokers/vapers would be advised to buy a second battery.
- Can’t stand the e cig up on it’s end. Don’t know why this bothers me so much. As mentioned in the review though they do sell a suction cup type of stand, so if you think this may bother you be sure to get one with your kit!
Final Vapestick Max Review Verdict
The Vapestick MAX Refillable Clearomiser kit is on a whole a very good product, everything performs as it should. Here is a breakdown of the for and against.
Hi,
I really agree with this review, but I can no longer buy the product. It’s the only ecig I can tolerate. having tried others so please tell me where I can get it now?
S.
Hey Sarah,
The Vapestick Max is actually just a re-branded device and is widely available without the branding. This is the tank section – called a Ce4 clearomiser or in this case Innokin iClear 16.
The battery is a standard EGO battery.
Although there are very similar options that are very easy to use as well. The Jacvapour S17 is an excellent choice and for me the tank performs a lot better.
Thanks
Jonny
