Vapefly are back once again following on with their excellent range of RTA’s and RDA’s this time with a new mini single coil RDA they call the Pixie.
Vapefly are a young company, Est in 2017, and are unsurprisingly based in China. They are gaining a great reputation; all of their products have been really very interesting so far including the, Galaxies MTL RTA, Wormhole RDA, Brunhilde RTA, Mesh Plus RDTA, Horus RTA and the Galaxies MTL Squonk RDTA and of course the Core RTA which was a great pleasure to review not long ago.
Vapefly say this RDA is Small/Simple/Smooth! So will the Pixie RDA be a delight or is it a gremlin in disguise? Let’s find out with an up and close look……………
The Vapefly Pixie RDA was sent to us for the purpose of this review. As always my thoughts and views are my own.

Design and Build Quality
The Vapefly Pixie RDA comes in a small card box with a paper over sleeve. As per usual with Vapefly they give you a good amount of spares to get you started.
The Pixie is a small 22mm diameter RDA with a height of only 24mm, not including the connection thread. When I received the Pixie it was clean and free of any machine oils, the RDA is made of stainless steel and Delrin.
The design and quality of the Pixie is like the rest of Vapefly products excellent.
The Pixie dismantles in 4 pieces for easy cleaning.
Base
Is made from stainless steel, starting with the bottom of the base, you have all the normally expected information which has been engraved in to the base.

Barrel
Is made of SS and (mine) painted a matt black on the outside with Pixie laser printed over the paint job, inside the barrel you have the matching tabs that fit into the notches on the base.

Airflow Ring/Cap
Again made of SS, the inside has a tiny amount of bevelling

Mouth Piece
The 510 drip tip is made from black Delrin; the profile is shallow at 6mm with an outer diameter of nearly 12mm.
A Basic Guide to Coiling/Wicking
- Pull off the cap and barrel, Choose which pin (BF or 510) you wish to use and replace by unscrewing the positive pin.
- Place your single coil into the post holes and screw down, heat, glow, strum.
- Insert your cotton tuck the ends down into the deck.
- Dampen your cotton with e-liquid.
- Choose which airflow option you want and replace.
- Replace the cap and barrel
- Place on a mod
Tips: The posts for the Pixie RDA measure 4.5mm so I cut the coil tails at 4.5mm with my CoilyTool
A word about squonking with the BF pin
For me this isn’t an ideal RDA for squonking! Because of the way the pin is raised in the deck
How Does The Vapeflt Pixie RDA Perform?
For this review I will be using the Pixie RDA on my Joyetech Espion Silk along with a homemade flat SS coil 0.24Ω my liquid of choice is Pinkman by Konceptxix.
I have the ordinary 510 connection pin and the wide AF plug installed for this example.
15 to 25w
Using mouth to lung style of vape at 15w, airflow set to the single dot AF, the vapour production was good the flavour was very good, however, I found for me the draw was light and the vapour was a wee bit on the cool side. I put the wattage up to 20w then 25w and the heat did increase slightly without effecting the flavour, I was able to get a restricted direct to lung draw from 20w up.
40w+
Using direct to lung style of vape at 40w and the wide AF set to 1/2 open the vapour production was again good with a great flavour the added wattage enabled me to enjoy a nice warm vape. Pumping the watts up to 45w also opening the AF full I have to say the airflow is fairly quiet and smooth, the airflow hits the coil just right with no turbulence that I could detect, with this coil (0.24Ω) 50w was my limit as the RDA and vapour was beginning to get to hot for my liking lol.
I have since settled on 40w and the wide AF set to half as my go to with the Pixie.
Chain Vape test
I did this in power mode at 30w with the AF set to half, 6 toots until I felt the cotton was almost dry, the RDA being made of stainless steel did get hot but cooled quite quickly.
Pros
- Great flavour production
- Good vapour production
- Overall build and design quality
- Very easy to insert the coil and cotton
Cons
- For me, not ideal for squonking
Final Review Verdict
While the Vapefly Pixie RDA in my opinion is never going to be a major league cloud chucker, for me it fills the flavour department fully!
It’s great having a smaller than average RDA for those times when you want to taste your e-liquid but can’t blow the clouds!
Vapefly have filled a niche with the Pixie as far as I’m concerned, while there are small RDA’s out on the market I personally don’t have that many, and those I do, like my Derringer for instance, either spit hot liquid back at you or leak like a sieve, using the Pixie with the 510 pin in place has been a delight for me in building, wicking and maintaining this little chap.
While I’m not fond of the RDA in squonk mode, I would recommend the Pixie to those who want to try an RDA for the first time! Even if you can’t make your own coils you can buy pre-made these days, in fact Vapefly do an excellent range of pre-made coils on their website.
Would I replace the Vapefly Pixie RDA if I lost or damaged it? To right I would!
Used the Pixie? Let u know what you though in the comments below.

Been looking at this little chap so thank you for such a thorough review 😊
Your most welcome Simone.
