Vapefly Kriemhild Mod Review – Dual Battery Monster

I’ve just received the 200w VapeFly Kriemhild mod and obviously the very first thing I did was Google what Kriemhild means and how you pronounce it.

I now know it is pronounced ‘kreem-hilt’, and I did find a lot of information on the name Kriemhild but in brief she was a beautiful heroine in the Germanic saga the Nibelungenlied, where she is the sister of Günther and the wife of Siegfried.

To my knowledge the Kriemhild is the only box mod that Vapefly has brought to the market, so far.

However since their launcher in 2017 Vapefly have been rather busy, their current catalogue consists of:

• 1 x Pod Mod
• 2 x sub-ohm tank (inlcluding the Kriemhild and 1 x MTL)
• 4 x RTA (including 3 x MTL)
• 1 x MTL Pen
• 1 x Pod
• 3 x RDA (including 2 x MTL)
• Firebolt Cotton

Perhaps the most impressive thing about that range is diversity of it, VapeFly truly make something for everyone.

A lot of their products look very familiar but the ones that catch my attention the most is the awesome looking Jester pod and the Brunhilde RTA (which I class as an RDTA).

What Can We Expect From The Vapefly Kriemhild Mod

The Kriemhild is a dual battery mod, but not just 18650 batteries, the Kriemhild can take 2 x 18650s, 2 x 20700s or 2 x 21700s.

On the front of the Kriemhild is a very nice 1.33″ TFT colour screen.

It supports Variable Wattage, Temperature Control (Ni / Ti / SS) and power curve output modes.

The huge battery batteries are mostly held in the battery cover, or in this case it’s more like a battery pack, which is held to the mod by pretty much full length rails then locked into place by a very firm and button.

On either side of the mod is 3 fairly huge vent holes and then on the back is a “Kriemhild” branding that is backlit.

I’m just going to put it out there, if you are one of the following this mod might be for you…

• Looking for ultra low resistance
• Looking for huge battery life
• Are not looking for a small device

If you are looking for a small device this is definitely not for you, it is huge, but it’s size is an essential feature to support it’s other features.

Strangely the box nor the Vapefly website actually tell you what’s in the box but here’s what I got..

Design and Build Quality

Let’s start nice and easy, let’s go up top.

The Connection & Top Of The Vapefly Kriemhild Mod

From the top of the mod we can easily see the Kriemhilds almost semi-circle shape (we’ll get to that later).

Like all the edges on the mod, the top edges are chamfered and smooth, there isn’t really much more to say about the top without mentioning the 510 connection.

The connection plate is 23mm in diameter, surely I’m not the only person that expected a bigger connection plate from this huge system?

However the plate is raised by about 0.5mm so that should prevent your tank from scratching the top of your mod.

It’s held down by 3 torx screws and seems fairly secure.

Vapefly Kriemhild Battery Pack

Pretty much all of the back of the device is the battery pack.

In fact without a tank, about 75% of the device is the battery pack.

I call it a battery pack because it holds the batteries, in fact all but 1 side and 2 connections are formed by the ‘battery pack’.

To insert batteries you place them into the ‘battery pack’ and then slide it onto the mod.

However I should point out it is not actually a battery pack or a battery holder, without the mod it is useless and visa versa.

The ‘battery pack’ is made out of metal with some plastic. The back surface looks like its make of hard textured plastic but it is not, it is a thin (unpadded) leather material.

Down the middle is a metal strip that widens at the center with the Kriemhild branding.

The Kriemhild branding is back lit and lights up when you vape which looks pretty cool but the ‘light settings’ suggest that you can change the colour of the light, that’s not the case, the only option you have is on or off.

The Vapefly Kriemhild Battery Pack Connection

The release button for the battery pack is on the bottom of the device, it has easy grip lines and can be pretty tough.

It’s dependent on your perspective, but I like the button, I’d rather it be too tough than not tough enough.

At the base of the ‘battery pack’ has 2 battery connections (1 positive & 1 negative), the opposing connections are on the mod.

The Vapefly Kriemhild Buttons and USB-C Port

The fire button is nice and big, measuring at 17.5mm in diameter.

It’s also got a dragon, nice pattern and German 103 embossed into it.

It is positioned central, above the screen and I have to say it does suit the mod quite well.

Just below the screen is the ‘+’ and ‘-‘ buttons, which are not huge but they are big enough and easy to press.

At the bottom is the USB-C port which is covered by a plug, although the plug can be hard to get out if you’re a nail biter like me, it is still nice to see that it has one.

Too often do manufacturers leave the USB port exposed making it vulnerable to debris, water and such.

The Vapefly Kriemhild Mod Screen

Due to the curvature of the mod the 1.33″ TFT screen is set back, which should protect it to a certain extent.

The actual screen measures 23.5 x 23.5mm and it’s easy to see in most light conditions.

I did find that on a hot sunny day you have to cover the side of the screen with your hand but that was pretty easy and made it easy to see straight away.

Across the top of the screen we have a battery level bar indicator for Battery A (on the left) and battery B (on the right) with the time in the middle…I’m one of those people that never set the correct time on my mod…sorry.

Below battery A indicator is the puff count and below battery B indicator is the current power mode.

Nice and huge in the center of the screen is the power setting, when I say huge, it goes up to 22mm wide, and you can change its colour.

In the bottom left there is the power curve setting (soft, normal and hard) and the Amp output.

In the bottom right corner is the Ohms reading (which can be changed or locked) and the Voltage output.

When idle, the clock face screen saver shows, it even has a seconds finger, I think it’s pretty cool.

The Vapefly Kriemhild Mod In the Hand

Thank you to the curvature of the mod it does fit in hand quite nicely, if you are a using your thumb to fire.

If you’d rather use a finger to fire it still fits the hand nicely, it’s just not as snug.

The Vapefly Kriemhild Mod Rattling Around

There are 2 sources of rattling from the Vapefly Kriemhild mod, and it took me a while to figure out where it was coming from.

I can’t speak for all Kriemhild mods but with the one I have received when you gently shake it, the battery pack itself rattles.

I know it’s definitely the back that rattles because you can replicate it by tapping on the back.

If you hold the mod tight to stop the rattling, the rattling stops, unless you shake it harder then you can feel and hear the 21700s rattling inside, but that’s not so much of a problem, you do have to really shake it to make the batteries rattle.

Using The Vapefly Kriemhild Mod

Inserting Batteries

• Push slide the button on the bottom of the device and slide the battery pack down.
• Insert the batteries into the battery pack, in accordance with the symbols inside
• Slide the mod back on to the battery pack until the button clicks locked – Tip: the rails run fill length, so start at the bottom

Operating

• Turn On/Off = Press fire button 5 times within 2 seconds
• Adjust power = Press ‘-‘ or ‘+’ accordingly, press and hold to go through the settings faster
• Lock / Unlock power settings= Press and hold fire button simultaneously for 2 seconds
• Factory Restore = Press and hold fire button simultaneously for 2 seconds
• Enter Quick Settings Mode= Press fire 3 times in quick succession
• Exit Quick Settings Mode= Press and hold fire for 0.8 seconds (Exits automatically after 5s of inactivity)
• Switch Power Mode: enter quick settings then Press ‘+’ / ‘-‘ to change the high lighted setting and press fire once to move to next setting (power mode, power curve, ohms and lock/unlock ohms)
• Enter Menu = Press fire button 4 times in quick succession
• Exit Menu = Press and hold fire button for 1 second or leave idle for 5 seconds
• Navigating the Menu = Press ‘-‘ or ‘+’ to move through the menus and us the fire button to select.
• To save changes make sure you select save and not exit.

Inside the Menu you can set 4 memory slots, which is always handy if you use 2 or 3 different tanks/coils and want to just be able to quickly select a setup.

There is also a curve option which allows you to modify the power curve.

How Does The Vapefly Kriemhild Mod Perform?

Menus and Navigation

We’ll start off with a negative.

Although it’s quite a simple and uncomplicated device to operate the 3 clicks, 4 clicks or 5 clicks system is a bit annoying, if like me, you’re a bit click giddy getting the right amount of clicks can be annoying a 3 click and 5 click system wouldn’t be too bad, but as it stands, there isn’t any room for error.

Vapefly Kriemhild Mod Battery Life

So obviously this is very dependent on what type of batteries you are using and especially what mAh the batteries have.

You can get 21700s that are 5000mAh, so that would be 10,000mAh!

On the flip side the most common 18650s are 2,500mAh or 3,000mAh (5000 or 6000 in total).

I’ve been using Samsung 40Ts (21700s with 3950mAh), giving me a total of 7,900mAh.

If you are using 2 x 5000mAh batteries you can expect roughly 14.5 hours of 100W (bases on a 3 second puff every other minute).

However if you are using 2 x 2500mAh batteries you can expect half of that (7-8 hours).

Vapefly Kriemhild Mod Charging

Again, charging is subject to your equipment. With any external battery mod (especial dual battery mods), I would always recommend using a external battery charger.

However if you’re away from your charger it’s good to know the Kriemhild supports upto 3A charging (if you supply the 3A Plug).

Built in charging speeds will again be determined by a few few factors (battery size in mAh and the input Amps.

To keep this short and simple, if you are charging at 3A it will charge 3,000mAs every hour, so it will take 2 hours to charge 2 x 3,000mAh batteries.

(Total Battery Size / Amps = roughly how many hours it will take to charge).

Wear and Tear On the Vapefly Kriemhild Mod

Don’t get me wrong the Kriemhild mod seems very durable.

In fact while sat on the sofa, the mod slid off of the sofa on the my pint of water on the floor.

It smashed the glass and then fell into the water, the mod was fully submerged in the water.

I took the mod out, too the batteries out made sure everything was dry and put it all back together. It did and still does work perfectly fine.

Having said that, other than that once, I haven’t dropped the mod, but there is a few scuffs and scatches that I can’t explain other than it rubbing on things in my pocket.

Low Battery Warnings

I’ve been using the Kriemhild mod with my HellVape Dead Rabbit V2 RTA and it has been great throughout all settings.

I did notice was the “low Battery” warning seems to trigger from about 30%. However I didn’t notice a drop in power until much later… which is better than the other way around.

Final Review Verdict

Why on earth would you want a dual 21700 mod, it must be huge!

It is pretty big but it’s not really any bigger than the Wismec Reuleaux 3 battery mods and you get perks from using a dual 21700 mod for example the battery capacity and higher amp output capabilities.

As I said right at the very beginning, in my eyes this mod is either for someone who is cloud chasing and / or looking for a longer lasting battery life.

All in all it is a basic mod with some advanced features, it’s easy to use (even if it is frustrating to get the right amount of clicks at times).
