The Importance of Activism for Tobacco Harm Reduction
New regulations are threatening Tobacco Harm Reduction globally, including harsh policies on vaping products. In Australia, vape shops have been raided, pushing consumers towards an unregulated black market. Meanwhile, India has implemented a full-scale ban on vaping, leaving millions without access to safer alternatives. These measures risk pushing millions of vapers back to smoking, undermining the progress made in public health.
At the heart of fighting these policies is the World Vapers’ Alliance network. We are a global community dedicated to safeguarding vaping and other safer nicotine products as a harm-reduction tool. Our strength lies in our unified activism – consumers, advocates and an extensive network of vape shops as bridges to consumers work together to push back against misguided regulations. Currently, the WVA represents more than 100,000 consumers and 37 partner organisations. Additionally, 740 vape shops are registered to the WVA’s Ambassador program – helping to educate consumers about current challenges.
