Designed by squonking guru and popular YouTube reviewer Tony B the Vandy Vape Pulse BF squonk box mod has caused quite a stir since the first few photos were released.
It’s also caused a tidal wave of interest on social media so much so that at the recent Vaper Expo – which the man himself attended – stocks were flying off the few stands that stocked it.
So he really couldn’t have launched this particular squonker at a better time given the resurgence of squonking among vapers.
What Can We Expect From The Vandy Vapr Pulse BF Squonk?
The Pulse BF squonker is affordable – lightweight and compact – with a simple yet pleasing design and given this is a mech mod it features a very clever safety switch.
As always when we mention mech mods please make yourselves aware of ohms law and battery safety.
And if squonking is a foreign word to you lol then find out more with our Ultimate Guide to Squonking and Squonk Mods.
For the record this was sent to me for the purpose of the review along with the Pulse 24 BF RDA and as always my thoughts and opinions are my own.

Pulse BF: Key Features
Ok this is a purpose built mechanical squonk mod designed by a squonking fan that can take the larger RDAs up to 25mm with little or no overhang [depending on the design].
It features a lightweight heat resistant nylon body and can be powered by either a 20700 battery or an 18650 using the supplied adapter.
- supplied adapter
Its max output is 40amps and has copper contacts – a spring loaded 510 pin and features an exceptionally good safety switch.
The silicon squonk bottle is super soft and can hold up to 8mls – inside the box is a white bottle and I’m led to believe other colours will be available.
The look of the squonk box can be changed by buying extra panels which clip together nicely with strong magnets.
Design and Build Quality
The internals are excellent and extremely tidy to say the least – great job!
The panels snap together and come apart easily but with a satisfying click – those strong magnets mean they are very unlikely to come loose or rattle.
It’s a well put together device and certainly doesn’t feel cheap and with a battery inside – the bottle fully filled and a RDA on top there’s a nice weight to it which adds to the overall feeling of quality – unlike some mech squonkers out there.
Design wise it certainly looks good too – if a little boxy.
However despite the boxed shape it fits nicely in the hand and the over-sized fire button looks good.
I’ll talk more about the fire button in the next section as well as the clever and well-designed safety switch.
The Pulse BF mod comes in a variety of colours: red – grey – black – purple – blue – white and the cyan I received.
These coloured panels can be bought separately and the first thing I did when receiving mine was purchase a set of plain black ones for a fiver plus P&P so they are readily available.
Overall it’s pleasing to look at and certainly is one of the better ‘affordable’ mechanical squonkers out there as far as looks and build quality goes.
How Does the Vandy Vape Pulse BF Mod Perform?
OK you may have heard some reviewers mentioning this doesn’t hit as hard as they may have liked – to some extent that’s true but I’ve found – and weirdly especially with an 18650 rather than the 20700 – it hits fine.
Define ‘hits’ – hard isn’t it but purely down to personal preference!
Not as hard as maybe the Stentorian RAM – but it certainly gave me a good vaping experience with a simple pair of Clapton coils reading 0.2ohms.
Saying that I also found a much better vape using the Digiflavor Drop RDA and the Hellvape Dead Rabbit – rather than the Pulse 24 BF RDA [bought separately] but again this will be down to personal preference – build etc.
The oversized fire button has been another bone of contention in some quarters.
Mainly because the throw is extremely short to say the least.
It is a very spongy button but there’s no need to fully press it to make contact and fire.
Personally and after a couple of vapes I soon adapted to a light touch rather than the usual full press many other mech mods out there need to fire.
Safety Switch
This is a simple yet ingenious safety feature that works extremely well indeed.
In effect you have a switch that breaks the circuit – the up position being broken so no chance of firing – whilst down and clicked into the fire pin meaning it’s live and ready to go.
Nice touch and in case after use the spring starts to go a bit there’s a spare in the box – couldn’t ask for more – though mech purists might have something to say about that!
Squonking Action
The super soft – and I mean super super soft – silicon bottle takes more getting used to in my opinion.
The slightest squeeze and the juice rushes to the tip meaning you need to be very careful when positioning it inside the mod – and make sure you have an RDA on board – yeah I was that vaper lol.
It really is light to the touch and a lack of knurling on the top means it can be fiddly to take on and off which can [and does] result in seepage…
BTW being able to remove the back and front panels means getting both the bottle and the battery in and out is much easier – there’s not a lot of room for maneuver in there to say the least!
Once you’re all set up the squonk action is pretty good however such is the softness of the bottle it does take a while for it to get back into shape.
Incidentally that also means that squonking in public can and does result in a LOUD whoopee cushion sound [OK fart noise] – that does have people turning their heads in your direction – if you catch my drift.
Squonking With the Pulse 24 BF RDA
As I mentioned earlier Mike did a review on the Vandy Vape Pulse BF 22 RDA and there’s little difference in the two apart from the size.
The 24mm gives decent flavour and clouds and the juice disperses evenly on the deck and does look good on board.
As far as the squonk action on the RDA – it squonks very well and just like the 22mm the top airflow means it is pretty hard to over-squonk and get leakage – and both are relatively easy to build on.
I say relatively easy – I don’t particularly enjoy postless decks as I tend to over snip the legs – but hey that’s just me!
If I’m honest I’m not completely sold on this RDA as a go to squonker much preferring the vape from the Drop – the Dead Rabbit and indeed the Augvape Druga – remember this is a review for the mod 😉
That’s not to say this is a poor RDA – far from it – just my personal preference 😉
What I Like
I like the simple clean lines of this squonk box – both externally and internally – with the insides deserving a special mention – they are very tidy!
The safety switch means this is as safe as a mech mod could get and extremely useful to say the least when you’re out and about – so simple yet so effective.
I love the clean tidiness of the internals with the contacts all encased inside the nylon shell only adding to both looks and safety of this squonker.
It’s good it can be used with both a 20700 and 18650 – to be honest I feel as though I’m getting a better vape with the smaller battery.
The fact you can switch out the panels means you can personalize this one to your heart’s content and they fit together beautifully.
I love the nylon body – it’s not as rough to the touch as other 3D squonkers I’ve used and it’s extremely light and feels very durable.
The large fire button may take a little getting used to as you will instinctively feel you have to press it right in – but after a few goes gently pressing it becomes second nature – to me anyway.
Yes it does look good with the purpose built Vandy Vape Pulse 24mm BF RDA – but as I said I much preferred using others – again that’s down to you!
What I Don’t Like
Apart from the very loud fart sound when the bottle sucks the air back in there’s not a lot to dislike.
Some of you may find the sensitivity of both the bottle and fire button a little too light – but you will soon get used to it.
As to claims it’s not as ‘hard hitting’ as some – again that’s down to personal preference as well as build – the RDA etc.
Final Review Verdict
Look it is what it is a truly affordable well-built well designed mechanical squonk box mod.
It’s certainly solidly put together and looks great – the potential to personalize the mod using the extra panels is a nice touch.
The simple yet effective safety switch is a good and works extremely well and the innards are refreshingly clean and tidy.
Of the squonkers I’ve used so far – this is certainly one of the better ones and I have no hesitation in recommending it.
