A lot of vapers are eagerly waiting for the release of the new Uwell Caliburn G pod kit and that’s what I’m lucky enough to be reviewing.
OK, the original set the standard for pod vape kits and many say it still does.
Our Michelle absolutely loved it as you can see from her Uwell Caliburn review.
So the new version certainly has some big boots to fill to say the least.
Since the success of the original Caliburn, Uwell released the Koko pod kit which Kevin aka the Worthing Vaper quite liked, but felt it needed more power.
Uwell is of course also known for its amazing tanks and vape kits, including the Crown 4 and the Valyrian II – and who could forget the Amulet pod watch lol.
What Can We Expect From the Uwell Caliburn G
It’s a top fill pod kit with swappable coils – in this case a DTL (Direct To Lung) 0.8 ohm mesh and a regular MTL 1.0ohm.
The kit is powered by an internal 690mAh battery and features Type C charging.
By swapping which way you insert the pod onto the battery means you can also alter the airflow – more on that later.
There’s a choice of x6 colours: Blue – Red – Grey – Rosy Brown – Green and Black.
OK, the kits were sent to me direct from Uwell – thank you – and as always freebies do not sway my thoughts and opinions.
So let’s see if the G stands for greatness…

Design and Build Quality
Not quite sure what the main body is made from I’d hazard a guess it’s zinc alloy – it is tough yet lightweight.
The pod snaps in and out nicely with a satisfying click, however the drip tip is a rather tight fit – more on that later.
I really like the design – it’s got a kind of Art Deco feel about it and the gold ring around the fire button only adds to what is a very elegant look.
The ridges not only add a nice design feature, but also give the device a good grip – this one won’t be slipping out of your hand.
The Caliburn logo is on the front of the device and again it’s done very elegantly indeed.

How Does the Uwell Caliburn G Pod Kit Perform?
I’ve never actually vaped on the original Caliburn but have only heard good things about it.
So I was keen to see if this new and improved version lived up to the original’s exacting standards.
For the taste test I used the last of the delicious SuperGood Cocktail Selection Nic Salts – a good match for the Uwell Caliburn G pod kit.
Filling the Uwell Caliburn G Pod Kit
First up the filling method…
That drip tip is a bugger to get off and it’s not just me saying that either. I gave a spare kit to a friend of mine and she really struggled getting it off too.
Once off filling is a doddle with a nice silicon sealed fill port.
The pod is crystal clear so you have no issues in seeing the juice level.
Snapping the mouthpiece back on can also be a bit of a pain – still better to be tight than leaky I guess.
Uwell Caliburn G Pod Kit Coil Swap
The coil is a push and pull style and obviously on the base of the pod.
It slots in and out smoothly – however make sure it is aligned correctly with the locating slot – otherwise it won’t fire and will leak.
Uwell Caliburn G Pod Kit Airflow
There’s dual airflow and it is kind of simple yet ingenious!
On the base of the pod is a tiny airflow hole.
If you snap the pod onto the battery and align it with the equally small airflow hole on the side – you’ll get the max amount of air.
Obviously pop the pod on with the holes not aligned, and you’ll get a more restricted vape.
I’ll look at how effective that is next.
Uwell Caliburn G Pod Kit 0.8ohm Mesh Coil
I began with the 0.8 ohm mesh coil and after priming it for 5 minutes – took a vape with the airflow wide open.
It’s a lovely loose DTL vape and the flavour is astounding – wow indeed.
I’d say on a scale of 1:10 with 10 being very airy, this is about an 8 to 8.5.
Swapping the coil around and the vape was even more flavoursome with that little bit of restriction really making the flavour pop.
Using the same scale I’d say it was a 7 to 7.5 – still airy but that flavour!
Uwell Caliburn G Pod Kit 1.0ohm Coil
I was a sent a spare pod so was able to simply fill that and switch.
Again I began with the airflow at its most open.
A definite looseish MTL vape with a fair amount of restriction – maybe a tad too tight for my tired old lungs.
Switching to the tighter setting and yup – this is definitely a ‘proper MTL vape’.
As for the flavour?
On both settings it is quite simply off the scale…an amazing vape with either coil and on either of the airflow settings.
A better option than an Elf Bar for sure.
Bravo!

Final Review Verdict
I’m impressed – VERY impressed.
The design is simple yet elegant – tough yet lightweight.
Yeah you could say it looks a little functional I suppose – but as pod kits go it’s definitely one of the better ‘lookers’.
That top cap come drip tip can be a pain getting on and off but trust me that’s a little niggle.
If the original Caliburn was good – the new Uwell Caliburn G pod kit is very special indeed.
Absolutely incredible flavour and then some – very highly recommenced…
So…is this one on your vaping wish list?
Any thoughts or opinions please let me know in the comments below.
Help my Caliburn G Pod just started hitting on its on flashing blue bunch of times then goes to green flashing I’ll have to pull the mouthpiece off or hurry and turn it off it will even start smoking in my jacket pocketðŸ˜ðŸ˜ I’m very sad this is my favorite vape! Now I’m stuck with the back up SMOK IPX 80 please tell me what’s wrong with my vape!!! Is CNN it broke?!? 😢😢😢 thank you 😊
This could be a sign of e-liquid getting into the electrics and shorting it out sadly.
I would try blowing through the USB port to see if you can clear any e-liquid build up also clean the pod base and contacts in the mod – but to be honest it sounds like it may be knackered sorry!
I have to comment on peeps that say it has burning etc…I have been using it for two weeks on the original .8 preloaded coil. NO problems. Great flavor, long lasting and easy to use. I have another pod with the 1.0 coil, same thing, it delivers a great experience and has great flavor. It lasts me more than a day between charges, has passthrough charging and fast charge. I also have the Smok Novo 4 which i love as well. I alternate between the two depending on function, I like the Caliburn for a daily work vape to satisfy nic cravings and replace smoking, and the NOVO for chill at night with friends, and use it for norm e-juice. I have not had a problem, the cap pops easily if you slide it off, it is very easy to fill(way easier than the NOVO).
Good to hear and yeah like you I’ve never had an issue with burning…it’s still my daily carry 🙂
I’ve moved on from the original cali2tobthe caliburn G. The flavour is awesome and so is the air flow. But coils burn really fast and the battery lasts way less than the early version. I’m at a stand on where to go from here…
This version is not good compared to the original. I’ve been through 2 batteries, over 4 pods, and countless coils and have experienced leakage problems and juice splash through the mouth piece every time. My original caliburn has lasted over 2 years of all day use, and continues to work just fine. I hope uwell’s next model is more similar to the original caliburn.
Sorry to hear that…still using the two I was sent for review – still going strong after taking a lot of use and batterings – only just bought a couple of new empty pods…getting 10 to 14 days from each coil and never had a leak…you might have a duff one…
Just got mine today. Opened the package, filled the pod with my 50mg Savage Bond salts and let it set for a good 20 minutes before vaping. The first couple hits were great. Then the liquid started turning brown and it tasted burnt.
Take two: new pod, new coil. Filled the pod with salts again and let it sit for a good half hour before taking a few unpowered hits to pull the salts through. First couple hits tasted great, and then boom. Burnt.
I’m far from a noob at this. Very unimpressed with this device.
Nice review but I think most people are interested in how it compares to the original. Personally I am not impressed. The life span and even the flavor of the coils is not as good as the Koko (which fits both previous models) or even the earlier original. I get 30+ mils out of a koko pod with little change over that period and only about 8-12ml out these coils. The flavor is good but compared to the Koko it’s lacking. I wanted an upgrade and although there are certainly some advantages to the caliburn G, its a major downgrade where it counts – the coils! BTW the drip tip is easy to get pff if you read the instructions, lol. You don’t pull it off! you push it sideways while still connected to the battery.
I take your point, however there’s plenty of reviews out there comparing the two…I have to say I’m incredibly impressed with the vape/flavour off this – my coils are lasting 10 days+ and that’s using it every morning…anyway enjoy the Koko and thanks for the comment 🙂
