A truly shocking video of a teenager being tasered by police for the ‘crime of vaping‘ has gone viral.
Not only has the world been horrified by the attack on 17-year-old Brian Anderson, even the most zealous anti-vaping organization has condemned the actions of Maryland police.
Wow…so this is what the war on vaping has come to…vicious attacks on kids…
To say I was furious at seeing this is an understatement…
OK, so what’s led to this act of violence by police over what most of us will say was a petty ‘offence‘ to say the least?
First off it’s down to new laws passed in Maryland where vaping and smoking is banned on its boardwalk.
Apparently Brian and a group of 3 other teens were told to stop vaping by the cops, and when they allegedly carried on, the police ordered them to stop and put their hands up.
Bystanders say Brian was told to remove his backpack and it was as he touched a strap to take it off the teenager was tasered.
The video shows he had his hands in the air before the attack, but witnesses are adamant he was showing NO signs of threat.
As he lay writhing on the ground, people can be heard screaming at the officers with one woman shouting:
Stop! He was standing there!
It really is a quite astonishing attack and led to more and more passers by admonishing the police.
The video – filmed by Rebecca Kavanagh – has now been watched over 2 million times on Twitter.
Incidentally, Rebecca is a criminal defence lawyer, so obviously knows the law.
She tweeted:
The teenager who had his hands up and was not in any way physically interacting with police (let alone physically resisting) when he was tasered, collapsed unconscious on the ground, was then hogtied, and placed in a police van.
A spokesman for Maryland Police said:
We are aware of the social media videos circulating regarding this incident.
Our officers are permitted to use force, per their training, to overcome exhibited resistance.
All uses of force go through a detailed review process.
The uses of force from these arrests will go through a multi-level examination by the Assistant Patrol Commander, the Division Commander and then by the Office of Professional Standards.
As I said at the start even the most fervent anti vaping group has slammed the attack.

In reply Matt Culley – vape advocate and reviewer better known as SMM tweeted:
Yet they continue pushing policies that always lead to this.
The ramifications of Bloomberg funded tobacco policies have been even worse in other countries.
Crazy times we’re living in.
Thank God it was just a tazer…
So what do you think about this incident?
