The SMOK TFV8 X Baby is the latest incarnation in the TFV8 range of tanks from Smoktech.
We have seen over the last few years many Smok products reach the market. The ever popular Smok TFV8 range of Tank atomisers, these include the original Beast Tank and the Baby Beast, although you can see our latest SMOK TFV16 review here.
They also have a great range of E-cigarette mods like the Alien 220W the Cube 2, one of their latest mod to be released is the SMOK Morph 219.
This time we are going to take a quick look at Smok’s latest sub ohm tank the TFV8 X-Baby, they are billing this range of tanks as the Brother of the Baby Beast tank and are a colourful addition to the beast range.

Design and Build Quality
When I first opened the box the first thing that struck me was the colour, a beautiful cherry red, then I was hit with a hang on a moment after taking a good look at the tank “isn’t the airflow ring was upside down?” And indeed it was!
However, ignoring the airflow for now, the X-Baby is a good design made from Stainless Steel, Pyrex glass, Delrin for the Drip-tip and a top airflow that sets this tank apart from other TFV8 tanks.
The build quality is as good other Smok Tanks; I had no problem dismantling the X-Baby unlike many tanks the Pyrex Glass came off with ease at my first attempt.
A quick guide to changing the coils and filling the X-Baby
*I recommended that you empty any E-Liquid in the X-Baby before changing coils.
- Turn your X-Baby upside down and remove the base, (the coil will come away with the base) remove the old coil
- Switch out for a new one!
- Please make sure you screw the new coil in firmly into the base! (You will need to prime any new coil to avoid burning, do this by dripping liquid on to the cotton and in through the liquid intake slots on the side of the coil)
- Then re-attach the base to the tank section.
- To fill your tank turn the tank right side up and look for the word “Open” around the top of the tank, with your thumb push the fill port open
- With a needle nose bottle fill the tank with your favourite eliquid, close and leave the tank for a few minutes so the coil can soak up more e-liquid.
How does The Smok TFV8 X-Baby Perform?
The TFV8 X-Baby Tank components
The X-Baby Breaks down into 5 Pieces for easy cleaning.
- Wide bore driptip
- Top airflow and liquid intake
- Pre installed coil
- Pyrex tank
- 510 Base
The Deck and CoilThe Coil screws into the Deck which has a 510 threaded connection with a silver plated stainless steel connection pin the bottom of the base has the words designed by Smok along with CE mark and a recycle bin.
Top Airflow/Liquid intake
The top airflow is acceptable for straight to lung hits and for mouth to lung hits the airflow can be adjusted by twisting the cylon type ring. By using your thumb push open the liquid intake inside is a white gasket which has a kidney shaped slot.
O rings
The various O rings fit well I have not experienced any leaks with the TFV8 X-Baby in the time I have used it.
Drip-tip
The wide bore drip-tip is made from Delrin with two small O rings for a tight fit.
The TFV8 X-Baby in use
Being that my SMOK X-Baby is a beautiful cherry red I dug into my collection of mods and resurrected my cherry red Asmodus Minikin 120W to use with this tank. While the colour doesn’t quite match and hangs over by a tiny amount its near enough on both that it doesn’t set off my OCD lol.
I used a new e-liquid to me, Vaporfi Grand Reserve. If you are looking for ideas though you can check out our best vape liquids post.
Like all the beast sub ohm tanks this little fella likes its power!
60W – 0.4Ohm Pre-installed coil
As I had the pre installed 0.4 coil which is rated for 40 to 80W best at 55 to 65W, I started at 60W direct to lung style of vaping, with airflow wide open.
The vape was smooth with a goodly amount of vapour and while the flavour was good it wasn’t remarkable!
80W
I whacked the wattage up to 80W and while the vape for me was quite warm it was still a smooth draw. The airflow is plentiful and I felt that if I wanted the coil could have handled more power, I didn’t detect a change in flavour at this wattage.
40W
Dropping the power down to 40W and closing the airflow to ¼ open I was able to get a passable mouth to lung draw. However, the draw was still quite noisy for a M2L draw but I was impressed by the amount of vapour produced and again the flavour was good.
It also has to be said through all my use of the tank I didn’t experience any leaking, likely helped by the top airflow positioning.

What I Like
I’ve got to say this, the colour of mine is wonderful. I love red and to me this tank is beautiful.
I was able to chain vape at 60W with the SMOK TFV8 X-Baby and it didn’t break a sweat with hardly any heat coming from the tank.
The airflow is plenty for the supplied coils; I’m also pleased with the top airflow on this sub ohm tank as it doesn’t leave condensation on the top of any mod.
What I Didn’t Like
I was only disappointed by a couple of things with the X-Baby. The top airflow ring on mine is upside down; while not a deal breaker in my mind it spoils the overall look of the tank.
Like all the previous Beast tanks it is a very thirsty little fella at high watts and it doesn’t take very long to empty the 4ml tank.
Final Review Verdict
While I love the look and feel of the SMOK TFV8 X-Baby I don’t like the way I can plough through 30mls of e-liquid in a couple or so hours. Although this is the case for pretty much all the TFV tanks.
It would also have been nice if Smok had assembled mine correctly and placed the airflow ring the right way around lol.
The TFV8 X-Baby is more of a cloud chucker’s sub ohm tank, while M2L is possible it’s not recommended by me because of the noise, I would like to have seen Smok include an RTA deck with this tank, to make the tank more versatile.
Would I buy the SMOK TFV8 X Baby tank again should I lose or break it? Not for me.. I can live without it
Pros
- Flavour and vapour was good
- No leaking in the time I was testing
- Good build quality
- Extremely easy to use
- Top airflow is good with no condensation on Mod
Cons
- Very thirsty
- I would like to have seen Smok include an RTA deck with this tank.
Just like yours, my airflow ring is upside down.
I double checked the anti-counterfeit QR on the Smok app when I first got it and it’s a genuine product.
It’s seemingly a really small thing but it actually really really annoys me. I’ve never even seen the upside down ring on a clone.
I accidently got to messing with my other settings on my al 85 with the baby beast x4 tank can someone please give me the right settings for all coil modes and all that plz i keep running to many volts and getting dry hits
