The new Smok Pozz X Pod kit is released as the company celebrates ten years as a leading vape manufacturer.
Over the last decade they’ve provided the vaping community with an incredibly diverse range of products.
From simple starter kits such as the Smok Vape Pen 22, the G-PRIV range of intermediate vape kits to the infamous TFV series of sub ohm tanks that just craved more and more power.
Smok certainly gained a reputation as a player in the pod stakes with the release of the RPM40 kit as well as the Fetch Pro kit that took on an extra boost in power thanks to the single 18650 battery requirement.
OK! They’ve come under scrutiny at times for the swift release of products and the myriad of coil options available sometimes making things overwhelming and confusing.
Yet there’s no doubting their level of commitment and consistency with a shrewd ability to adapt to the needs of an ever growing vaping audience. And pod vapes are certainly the go to device at the moment.
One might say that’s cause for celebration in its own right.
What Can We Expect From The Smok Pozz X Pod Kit?
Smok have gone for simplicity with this pod kit but with two sub ohm coils included they are catering more for the intermediate vaper by providing a direct lung performance.
I say simplicity because it’s a “one button fits all” kind of arrangement. The fire button now takes on the responsibility of the menu functions.
It’s a system that should in theory at least, prevent any inadvertent button pressing.
The airflow system on the side of the battery section is a radical change of design. It looks to provide a very efficient direct lung vaping experience.
Thanks to the airflow control ring on the pod itself expect also the opportunity of a very restrictive lung hit.
Incidentally – the Urban Dictionary reckons ‘pozz’ means: a state which is comparable to relaxed and chilled!
Now you know 😉

Design and Build Quality
Pod Section
The pod is comprised of PCTG, a highly popular food grade material. It’s very pleasing to note the amount of transparency while viewing juice levels.
Incorporated at its base is a fully adjustable airflow ring that has adequate knurling and a silky smooth tolerance when adjusting.
The coils are of the plug and play variety but you may still need to rotate them into position. It’s the usual simple and convenient procedure.
How To Change The Smok Pozz X Coil
- Lift the pod out of the battery section
- Carefully insert the coil into the chamber base of the pod ensuring a snug fit
- Replace the pod into the battery section
All six of the RPM40 coils are compatible with the Smok Pozz X pod kit as well as having the option of building on the RBA section if that’s how you swing.
Smok has ditched the magnets on the Pozz X in favour of two notches that line up to the inside of the battery section. This allows the pod to click very firmly into place. Being reversible there’s no wrong way of inserting the pods.
It’s very pleasing to see the positioning of the silicone stopper on the side of the pod.
It makes life very easy, especially if you are often filling with the 2ml TPD version.
Battery Section
The front and back panels of the Smok Pozz X are made up of four layers. There’s a hardened inner layer, PMMA, PC and a process layer, all told, the panel thickness is a mere 0.6mm.
Electroplating wraps around the sides and bottom, the included baking paint providing a smooth metallic texture and depth to the included colour scheme.
A symmetrical three spoke air intake channel can be found on either side of the battery. With airflow wide open, they should provide quite an airy direct lung vape.
On the inside of the battery two gold plated spring loaded contacts are visible.
The standard USB port has been relegated to the contoured underside of the battery. Yup! You won’t be standing this one upright while charging.
Curiously there are no battery venting slots visible anywhere on the device.
The screen is placed vertically on the lower portion of the front panel beneath the fire button which is raised and very responsive. There’s no sponginess or sticking in evidence.
SMOK Pozz X Kit Screen and Menu Functions
The screen displays the following information when the fire button is depressed.
- Smok Logo
- Battery strength indicator
- Wattage
- Device lock / unlock icon
- Output Voltage (only available while vaping)
- Coil resistance (ohms)
- Puff duration
- Puff counter
The display automatically times out after 15 seconds of inactivity to help preserve that all important battery life.
The Smok Pozz X responds somewhat different to the “five clicks on, five clicks off” routine. That’s a refreshing change in its own right!
- Press the fire button five times to switch the device on
- With the device in standby mode, press the fire button five times to enter the menu mode
- Press the lower or upper part of the fire button to cycle through lock mode, power off or to clear the puff counter
- Hold the fire button to activate the selected mode
- Press the fire button three times. Use the edges of the fire button to adjust wattage. After a few seconds the wattage is set.
The device does round robin allowing for values to reset to 5W very quickly. However, when making wattage adjustments you can only increase them which is mildly annoying.
How Does The Smok Pozz X Pod Kit Perform?
Let’s take a quick look at how to fill the pod before we commence with the actual vape performance, shall we?
- Remove pod from battery section and ensure coil is positioned
- Carefully remove the silicone stopper from the side of the pod
- Insert bottle nozzle into opening on pod and administer e liquid, taking care not to overfill
- Replace the silicone stopper back into the pod ensuring a secure seal
- Place the pod back into the battery section of the Smok Pozz X
The pod itself features quite a deep juice well so you will need to take this into account when filling.
Because filling is achieved via the side also remember to replace the silicone stopper before turning it back upright. Do as I say, not as I do lol!
When a new coil has been fitted make sure you allow the juice to saturate the juice ports for a good five to ten minutes prior to vaping.
SMOK Pozz X Kit 0.4ohm RPM Mesh Coil (Tested at optimal 25W)
I carried out my tests on the RPM mesh coil rated at 0.4ohm using Riot Squad Tropical Fury, a 50VG/50PG ratio which contains a hybrid mix of salt and freebase nicotine.
The coil resistance was reading 0.36ohm and at 25W was bang on 3V output.
With airflow wide open I received a tremendous amount of vapour production and the draw was smooth and turbulent free. This is your classic direct lung vape!
It is a reasonably loud vape but the flavour received more than makes up for that!
The pineapple notes simply spilled out of the exhale and the sweetness level was off the scale! To be honest there was more than I liked, but still makes a pleasant change for a pod based system.
SMOK Pozz X Kit – Other Airflow Settings
Closing the airflow down to around half way provided a slightly warmer vaping experience. It’s a semi restrictive direct lung affair with even more flavour intensity. Much more of the mango and papaya content is able to filter through under such restriction.
Loudness to the vape remains but not annoyingly so.
I closed the airflow off completely to see if I could expect a mouth to lung vape but to no avail. At this point it does become a very restrictive draw, the nicotine hits the throat more and the flavour becomes compromised. Cloud production also takes something of a nose dive.
- Battery performance 6hr 15min
- Puff Count 148
- Juice vaped 6ml
SMOK Pozz X Kit – 0.6ohm RPM Triple Coil (Tested at optimal 25W)
Because we are dealing with another sub ohm coil with a relative degree of clout in the power stakes, I opted for a higher VG ratio juice.
Wick Liquor Boulevard, an 80VG/20PG mix with freebase nicotine added to the short fill bottle was used to test.
The coil resistance was reading 0.65ohm with a 3.79V output.
There was an immediate difference to the airflow arrangement when set wide open. It presented more restriction than the 0.4ohm mesh coil.
The cloud production was again fantastic but a pattern began to form regarding the flavour. It refused to shift during subsequent profile changes.
During the test I noticed only the sweeter, tart elements of the profiles coming through on the exhale. Boulevard is loaded with fruits and the Malibu and loganberry pulp are clinical, defining aspects. Yet nothing of these were on show regardless of airflow arrangement.
SMOK Pozz X Kit – Other Airflow Settings
Reducing the airflow control ring down to around half way presented little change to the level of restriction although sweetness levels did intensify regardless. Cloud production remained consistently dense and satisfying.
With the tightest airflow restriction set in place the option of a very loose MTL vape became available although as with the 0.4ohm coil, flavour suffered as a result.
It is important to note that at no time did I encounter a dry hit so the coil was more than capable of dealing with the thicker liquid. In fact it was even possible to chain vape at the recommended (best) output level without any adverse effect.
- Battery performance 8hr 30min
- Puff count 214
- Juice vaped 4.5ml
Pros
- Lightweight and pocket friendly
- Excellent flavour from the 0.4ohm RPM mesh coil
- Faster than expected charging cycle
- Easy to use silicone stopper
- Excellent direct lung vaping capabilities
Cons
- Disappointing battery life using the 0.4ohm RPM mesh coil
- 0.6ohm triple RPM coil lacks flavour quality
- Can be fiddly when removing pod from battery section
- Prone to leaking when using thinner e liquid
Final Review Verdict
I found the pre installed 0.4ohm mesh coil to offer something of a “wet” vape indicating that it’s more than likely better suited to thicker juice ratios of either 70/30 – 80/20 VG PG.
The best setting was with airflow two thirds shut off, giving me my favourite restrictive lung experience. Flavour and cloud production was well balanced at this setting.
As much as the 0.6ohm triple coil performed its duties it disappointed by refusing to manifest the driving notes of any profile tested.
Having suffered intermittent leaking issues while using both coils I would suggest avoiding thinner juice ratios. This ceased to be a problem as soon as I filled the pod with 70VG/30PG – 80VG/20PG blends.
Expect to get a good 7 days use from either coil when using standard juice ratios of 70VG/30PG. Maybe a few more if sticking with thinner liquids but do bare in mind the possibility of an occasional leak.
Other Pozzible Negative Neil Moments
I found myself having to wiggle the pod out of the battery section when refilling or coil changing. The notch based system works a little too efficiently for its own good lol! However, for this reason I prefer magnet connectivity.
It would have been nice to have a little more battery life from the 0.4ohm coil, falling two hours short of that demonstrated by the included 0.6ohm RPM triple.
X Marks The Spot
Both coils were superb when it came to cloud production. The three spoke air intake channels really play a major role because it is still pozzible (sorry!) to achieve a very restrictive direct lung hit even with the pods AFC ring completely closed off.
Without a doubt, the 0.4ohm coil steals the show for pure intensity of flavour and is in a league of its own. I was very impressed with profile replication.
With regards to vaping style?
Expect a fully blown direct lung vape.
You can also have varying degrees of restriction but don’t go looking for a mouth to lung experience with the Smok Pozz X pod kit. It’s been designed with masses of airflow in mind.
Ergonomics And Everyday use
It’s an absolute joy! Although maybe a little chunky looking for some the Smok Pozz X pod kit feels very comfortable in my hand.
There’s slightly more weight than I would have liked but that doesn’t mean it’s not pocket friendly.
I had no issues viewing the screen in direct sunlight although the colours were less vivid.
The device offers complete simplicity in its approach to menu function. It was very easy to make any basic changes that were needed on the fly. There’s really no need for convoluted menu screens on a pod anyway.
Overall, the Smok Pozz X Pod Kit is a very reliable bit of kit let down only by the lack of flavour from the 0.6ohm RPM triple coil and a few intermittent leaking issues.
i have had 2 of these devices since christmas 2022 as i lost one after 4 months of having it, i got a new one 2 weeks ago in late may and still having problems with the 50/50 juices even though online that’s what it says it’s compatible with, the rubbed covering has snapped in half so it just has to be placed in and secured. Today the button got jammed in and it’s still caved in at the bottom. I think these vapes are reliable but when i’m looking for a new one do you have any advice on affordable under 30-40 but worthwhile?
I always recommend any of the OXVA Xlim range – inexpensive, great flavour and excellent pod life.
Other great kits include Voopoo Argus G and the Caliburn Tenet, or Caliburn A3 or AK3.
I use 50/50 e-liquid very happily with these kits.
I have had my Pozz X for a couple years now and last week the switched from a black backlit screen to a white backlit screen and don’t know how or why and couldn’t find anything here it’s not a big deal just weird
Hi, Ron.
Thanks for stopping by to check out our reviews. Very much appreciated.
To be honest buddy, if your Smok Pozz X has lasted for two years I’d say you’ve had a pretty good run!
Chances are the board is on the way out. Think of it as letting you down gently as opposed to simply dying an instant death.
Cheers,
Neil C
Horrible piece of garbage, the spring failed on one of the contacts inside of a year making it difficult to use and besides that is spews juice out of the coil, out of the pod and everywhere else. Tired of getting ejuice in my mouth, on my hands, on everything and tired of paying for stuff to pour out. FUCK Smok, never buying any of their products again.
Hi, Brad. Thanks for taking the time to read our reviews, it’s very much appreciated.
You’ll no doubt have seen the picture I intentionally put up which reflects your own issues with the Smok Pozz X.
As convenient as plug and play is, I’ve heard all sorts of work arounds for leaking issues including inserting the coil at a slight angle! Go figure. lol
Some of the problem has to lie with the O rings and their quality. I know lots of people that mock Smok for leaking pods yet most love the design quality they continue to churn out.
We certainly shouldn’t have to be reliant on thicker juices to solve these inherent problems.
Kind regards,
Neil
My Pozz X leaks and when refilling and or replacing the coil it leaks and floods and take a lot of work if at all to stop the flooding and leaking.
I would not recommend!!!!!!!
