Key Features

It’s the sheer power inside the Smok G150 that stands out here with a huge 4200mAH internal battery.

I say battery it looks to me as if there’s a couple of batteries in there given the shape of the mod however I can’t be sure given I’m not one for taking things apart – whatever’s in there it’s bloody powerful!

left hand perfect

I found I was getting a day and a half of vaping at a steady 57 watts and charge up time was pretty quick too going from zero to fully charged in just under 2 hours.

The TFV8 Big Baby tank will also be familiar by now to most Smok users given they seem to add it to every kit going!

However, if you haven’t let’s just say I reckon it’s one of the best sub ohm tanks I’ve ever used.

It absolutely chucks out the clouds – gives a decent flavour and has a whole host of coils you can use depending on your preference – there’s nine different coils ranging from 25 to 110 watts [sold separately].

The kit comes with x2 coils the 0.4ohm dual core [40-80watts] which is pre-installed and the 0.15ohm dual core which is for direct output.

Regular Smok users will immediately recognize the menu and how to operate the device and all the usual suspects are included:

  • Temp/Wattage/Memory modes
  • stealth option
  • puff counter
  • soft normal and hard modes.

Smok says the almost kidney like shape is ‘ergonomic’ and to some extent it is but I’ll look at that next.

Design and Build Quality

As I’ve found with most Smok products – I stress the words ‘as I’ve found’ – the build quality is good with a solid weighty feel.

I have a feeling some of the weight may be coming from the paint job as it seems to be put on thickly – a lesson learned no doubt from the early Aliens!

g150 kit shape

There’s not many if any moving parts on the mod so there’s no battery door whilst the buttons are responsive and pleasantly clicky.

Out of the box and the tank I received was extremely, and I mean extremely, tight to open requiring warm water to loosen up those threads.

However once filled and the O rings lubed up things got a whole lot easier – just be careful taking it all apart the first time as you could crack the glass.

SMOK G150 vs Wismec RX200s
rx200s against g150

Design wise it’s certainly a looker coming in a variety of colour combos contrasted against the black with the colour matching tank.

Choose from Gold – Red – Stainless – White – Light Green and the rather loud green that I received.

Ergonomic?

OK, as to the ergonomic claims I’m not so sure.

If like me you can vape with both hands you should be OK and if you don’t mind not seeing the screen whilst vaping that should be ok too.

However if you fire with your thumb and like to see your screen and are right handed then that may be a little awkward as you can see from the photo.

g150 fire button
awkward button placement for right handers

The instinct is to hold the mod in your right hand with the screen facing you however that puts the fire button the opposite side and you then instinctively try to find the fire bar like on the Alien!

There’s no fire bar! So your finger wraps around the fire button just above the knuckle which feels clumsy and clumsier if you use your fingertip.SMOK g150 fire button

Turning the mod the opposite way means you don’t see the screen and the up and down buttons can [if you grip too tightly] not only annoy after a while but if you haven’t locked the screen you could end up pressing all sorts of button combinations!

If you’re a thumb firing left hander that likes to see the screen then it’s perfect!

Maybe the guy [or woman] who designed this was left handed?

Look it’s a little niggle and one that after a while will seem like a minor irritation but I’d hands down say this was one a leftie will enjoy 😉

How Does the Smok G 150 Kit Perform?

I’ve been using this close to three weeks know and haven’t had a single issue with it.

One thing I do like about the Smok chip is the soft – normal and hard settings and with the Big Baby Tank I find set to hard and this beast positively purrs then roars into life.

g150 screen

I can’t knock the tank and given I’ve used it many times there’s not a lot more I can say on the matter.

Do check out two of our reviews that feature the tank: TFV8 and V8 Stick.

Apart from the need to fiddle about a bit to find the best way to hold and fire the mod it is what it is a solid no frills Smok device that vapes well.

The menu as always with Smok is easy to navigate with all the options you could wish for and all nicely presented on a very clear large OLED screen.

It’s a smart stylish vape kit that delivers good flavour and amazing clouds and not needing batteries has to be a bonus.

What I Like

It has to be the internal batteries/battery – this is an ideal every day out and about set-up that will give you a decent amount of use between charges and with pass-through you can vape whilst charging too.

The colour combinations are very cool and the design of the mod is reminiscent of an old hip flask I used to own.

Look.. the Big Baby tank is a solid performer – not the tastiest tank you’ll ever find – but it is a great tank with a whole host of coils you can try to find your perfect vape.

So yeah whilst it may be on the heavy side and the green one I received is extreme green it’s a good looking solid performing set-up and perfect for taking out an about.

And given I can cock up all sorts of things on a mod it’s good to see a reset button too 😉

What I Don’t Like

I’m not sure the positioning of the fire button is right – that may be just me and I know lefties will be happy with the placement!

For its size it’s also quite heavy and I guess that has to be down to the battery – it is pocket friendly but wear a belt!

And the extra O rings are not the same colour as the originals that means if you swap them out you lose the matchy matchiness.

Final Review Verdict

A lot of vapers out there on social media seem to be excited about this kit and I can see why.

It looks good and does it’s job well with I guess the Innokin Coolfire Ultra kit it’s obvious competitor in the market.

g150 topview

Having used both my personal preference for a mod only setup would be for the Coolfire given it’s lighter and sleeker – however as a kit I’d go with the Smok as the stand out is the tank!

I guess the lasting power of the G 150 is another thing to consider – this mod keeps on keepin on!

Of course there’s nothing stopping you buying either or – but for the whole matchy matchiness I’d recommend this as a good set-up particularly for the Smok fans and newcomers to sub ohm vaping.

I have simpler vape tastes these days - I never leave home without a Caliburn G, a Vaporesso Luxe 40 or Innokin EQ FLTR and a CBD vape pen or bottle of CBD drops in my rucksack...or indeed an Aspire Nautilus Prime X in my pocket... At home I'll be using various mods topped with the GeekVape Zeus X RTA or the Signature Mods Mono SQ topped with the Augvape BTFC RDA... I'm a former journalist and now a writer and sometimes author... I'm ex Army - adore dogs and never happier than hiking over the hills or with a good book on a beach.

smok-g150-kit-reviewedA little heavy and that button placement can be annoying but once again the Baby Beast tank has saved the day and the powerful internal battery makes this a decent little set-up.

  1. Hi there I just bought this item and battery doesn’t charge when plugged in keeps saying low battery with 0% life any info on how get get it to charge please or will I have to buy a new as not been able to use it yet thank you in advance

  2. So everybody is all ‘whayhay’ over this tank.
I dont get it. Sure it has plenty of cloud and taste is good too. Filling is quite easy with the swing top too. Take a nice big blast on this thing and it sounds like gas is escaping from a fire extinguisher. It’s so so loud. Close the holes with the ring over too much and you get a whistling kettle. Bad bad bad. Too loud. Forget a little stealth vape.. everyone thinks there is a gas leak somewhere.
Now the mod.. it’s solid. It does keep on giving power. It does have many options in the menu and it has some cool features to get that perfect vape. Give it a little shake and you can hear the + – buttons rattle and shake. I don’t think they will break easy but not so cool Smok. Have a word with the designers.
That trigger button is not in the wrong place. It sits under the middle pad of your pointing finger. The screen sitting out to view. Give the mod a little squeeze and it fires nicely. Lefties will have to use a thumb.
I’ve been using this mod setup for a week now and apart from the looks from other people due to the wheezing imminent gas explosion the setup works well.
    Stealth .. No.
Clouds .. yes. Yes again. Very user controllable too.
    Ease of use .. yes.
    Leakproof .. 95%
Price .. reasonable.. you might want a different tank.. the mod will handle anything you can throw at it.
Happy .. mod yes. Tank no.
