New Affordable Regulated Squonk Mods Released Soon?
All I want for Christmas is a reasonably priced regulated squonking box mod.
Not a lot to ask really is it all things considered especially when you see the amount of effort some vape companies go to ruin new mods with all singing all dancing gaudy LED light shows.
I mean how difficult is it to take the existing shell of a dual or single battery mod and replace one of the slots with a silicon bottle and the 510 with a squonk capable fitting?
Given I’m not a mod manufacturer and have no idea how they’re built send me your answers on a postcard!
I mean let’s face it the mod designers MUST have noticed pretty much every RDA released recently includes or squonk pin or reviewers like me mark it down!
But keep reading and you’ll see that we might just be seeing the resurgence of the regulated squonk mod –at a decent price – given I have asked a number of vape companies if they had plans to release any!
And if you’re still not sure what a squonk mod is then do checkout our Guide to Squonk Mods.
My Pre-Release RAM is In the Vaping Knackers Yard
So why am I on yet another moan I hear you ask.
I’ve been happily squonking on my Stentorian RAM mech box daily and absolutely loving it.
If you checkout the update to that review you’ll see I was sent one of the early releases and sadly it’s now kaput in that the bit the fire button makes a connection with on the 510 has fell off.
To say I’m gutted is an understatement – but don’t worry the newer retail version has this issue fixed as well as adding a few more safety features – but it’s still an unregulated device.
Now I’m not sure what you guys ‘n gals class as ‘reasonably priced’ when it comes to a mod – but let’s say between £35 and £50 for the sake of argument – still a high price in my book.
A quick look around the internet to replace my RAM threw up plenty of unregulated devices coming in at $15 upwards – and when I say ‘upwards’ I mean some of them are at a ridiculous price!
I bought the Boxer clone a while back for around $13 and whilst it squonks after time it has started to ‘play up’ and given it’s a mech mod I’m not prepared to risk the ‘playing up’ becoming a more serious issue.
So in effect I’m pretty much squonkless again!
The Hunt for the Illusive Reasonably Priced Squonk Mod
So what has my hunt for a replacement squonk mod thrown up at a price that I would call reasonable?
Sadly it would seem the old faithful’s – the Pico Squeeze and the Kangertech Dripbox 1 and 2 are what I would class as reasonably priced and by all accounts they’re decent performers.
I’m no vaping snob but they really don’t do it for me and neither does the latest release from HCigar – the VT DNA 75 squonk box kit which is retailing around the £80 mark.
Judging from the reviews I’ve read and seen it’s a good performer with a crap atty and given the mod itself retails at around £65 + that’s still what I’d class as expensive!
Blame the DNA chip inside for that I’m guessing which brings me to the Lost Vape Therion BF DNA75C which at over £100 is way out of the what I’d call reasonably priced range.
So those are the most recent squonk mods out there – though there appears to be some confusion over the Wraith from Council of Vapor.
I was told categorically at Vaper Expo it was being ‘discontinued due to the TPD’ by one of the guys on the company stall.
You may remember I’d gone to buy one lol and struggled to find one on the internet anywhere.
So now it seems the wave of squonk interest has led to Council of Vapor re-releasing it – or at least that’s how it seems given it’s for sale on some UK vape sites from around £60.
Tempting!
So there’s basically the old school Pico and Kanger Drip Box at reasonable prices or the HCigar VT squonker and Wraith at prices that are slightly above what I class as ‘reasonable’ – not a lot is there really?
Which brings me to the squonking mech boxes and oh my life are some of those 3D printed ones expensive – unless of course you chance it and go for a clone.
High End Expensive Squonking Mech Mods
How about the unregulated Diamond Bottom Feeder by Barracuda Coil – yours for a wallet busting £159.99.
Or the iMex Squonker by Lazy Master was £350 now on sale for £299.99 – is that a bargain??!!
How about the Pulsar BF by Original Moddog another one for £299.99 and the list goes on and on.
So regular cash poor vapers like most of us are left eying the clones – smashing our credit cards or window licking those high end boxes.
Aspire and iJoy to Launch New Squonk Kits
So I decided to contact x4 of the major mass market vape companies to see if they were about to release – were thinking of releasing or had no plans to release a reasonably priced regulated squonking mod.
Sadly only two got back to me though I’m not sure from Wotofo’s reply they understood what I was asking:
Hello Neil,
This is Crystal from Wotofo. Great thanks for your support to us. I have taken record of your info. We will contact you when we need your help.
Have a nice day.
Yours Crystal
Well that’s crystal clear…but thanks for taking the time to reply 🙂
However Aspire did indeed respond with news they indeed are going to be releasing a regulated squonker soon and it’s currently in the research and Development stage [R&D]:
Hi friend,
Actually we are R&D a new Squonker mod and tank now, but it is still in developing so we can’t tell you more info, please kindly follow our social medias and blog, we will share with our followers once we have any new info. Thanks.
Thanks&Best regards,
Kiki
Thanks very much Kiki – I’m really looking forward to seeing your squonker…well that sounded plain creepy lol…
Smok didn’t reply and neither did iJoy so I was a bit miffed to see a few days after I contacted them they released this image on their social media sites [thanks for the exclusive lol]:
So that’s two mainstream vaping companies looking to release a mass market regulated squonker at least.
And of course what one vape company tends to do another follows so maybe just maybe we might see a flood of squonkers hitting the market pre-Christmas – my letter to Santa is itching to be written!
One other squonker that caught my eye is the Geekvape GBOXS100 TC MOD – however it doesn’t appear on their website and from what I can work out it’s over a year old – was held back for ‘technical issues’ and the verdict if 50-50 on if it’s any good.
If I get any more info on that I’ll let you know and if you have any info on the GBOXS100 let me know!
Finally, as I write, we have the Vandyvape Pulse BF Squonk mod that should retail at under $40. Vandyvape, while fairly new to the vape world have been releasing some superb atomizers of late so be interesting to see how thos device fairs. The first I have seen that can also accommodate the 20700 battery as well 🙂
Happy squonking – if you can afford too 😉
