The OBS Pluck kit is a new starter kit from a manufacturer that has been around since 2014.
I’ve previously reviewed the KFB2 and the Land Pod System from OBS, and I’ve always been impressed with the neat, flavourful devices they make.
What Can We Expect From The Pluck Kit by OBS?
The Pluck kit is a starter kit that shares more than a little of it’s DNA with Pod systems.
It comes with two coils for mouth to lung and direct lung vaping, you can read more about the different types of vaping here. A decent 3.5ml capacity on the non TPD version, and USB C charging.
With a one button device, hopefully there’s not much to go wrong!
This was sent over free of charge from OBS for the purpose of review (thank you) – as always, this will not affect my thoughts, and I shall report back honestly with what I find.

Design and Build Quality
The mod section comes in a choice of 6 colours, Classic Black, Carbon Black, Galaxy Blue, Retro Brown, Tiffany Blue and Camo Green.
I received the Tiffany Blue for review.
OBS Pluck Kit the Body
The body of the mod is about as simple as you can get.
It’s tube shaped with the coloured section having a slightly grippy feel to it, despite looking like it might be a pod at the top it is actually a standard 510 connector.
On one side you have a long black strip with the branding “Pluck” in white down the bottom, and your fire button with LED at the top.
The fire button does the job just fine, though it’s not as clicky as I would personally like. Also because it’s only slightly raised from the body, it can be hard to find it by feel.
On the opposite side to your fire button is the USB C charge port, this will charge at 1A.
I’m really glad it’s not on the base of the mod, as I don’t like to leave them lying on their sides, but because it’s so high it can be a little top heavy if you’ve plugged it in standing up.
Speaking of the base of the device, you have your regulatory marks. Oddly it says “OBS Designed by OBS“. It also lists the capacity of the battery (1500mAh) which is a nice touch that you don’t often see.
Finally there’s a small hole for venting.
On the top of the mod you have a spring loaded 510 connector, and it will fit a 25mm tank without overhang.
The OBS Pluck Tank
The OBS Pluck tank itself is a bit of an oddity, as it feels more like a pod than a tank.
It’s a fixed drip tip that is built into the top section, it’s quite a wide bore, so we’ll see how that will affect mouth to lung vaping later.
On one side you have a little arrow to show you what way to push to open the top for refilling. Be aware that the top section does come off totally.
Your airflow control is built into the metal base hardware of the tank. You’ve got two mirrored cyclops airflow slots, and if you turn it further you have 5 pinhole airflow holes so you can really fine tune the vape.
This should be good for allowing both mouth to lung, and direct lung vaping.
Despite it feeling like a pod, it does have a standard 510 connector at the base, and this whole base section unscrews to allow you to change your coil.
How To Fill The OBS Pluck Tank
- Slide the top of the tank in the direction of the arrow to expose your fill port
- Fill up with your favourite e-liquid
- Slide the top back again to close it
This is one of the few things I didn’t like about this kit, as if you push too hard, the top of the tank will just come straight off.
It does have a little catch, but it’s designed so you can totally remove it by pushing hard.
Keep this in mind if you’re out and about, because it’s not dignified having to hunt around on the ground in the dark because you’ve just sent the top of your tank bouncing away!
How To Change The OBS Pluck Coil
You can either leave the tank on the mod for this, or you can take it off. One is just as simple as the other.
- Unscrew the bottom section of the tank, if you’re leaving it on the mod you can just hold this and unscrew the top section for the same effect
- Flip it upside down so you can see your coil
- Pull out the old coil and insert a new one
- Screw the two pieces back together again
Remember to leave it to sit for a few minutes with e-liquid so that it fully saturates.
You can change the coil when there is a little e-liquid left in the tank, but not much. So try and vape it almost empty, or you’re going to have liquid running out the drip tip.
Controls
No screen on this and only one button, so as you can imagine it’s pretty simple!
5 Clicks will power On/Off the mod
The LED will show different colours depending on the battery remaining.
- Green – 60-100%
- Blue – 30-60%
- Red – 0-30%
I’m pretty pleased with where they have set the levels, as I often find that mods that rely on LED colours only show red seconds before they power off.
On this one, you have a reasonable safety margin to find somewhere to charge up.
Power output is handled by the chip, and only has 2 possibilities based on the resistance of the coil
- 0.8Ω – 15W
- 0.8Ω – 35W
Normally it’s not something you need to think about, but if you’re going to put your own tanks on here it’s worth remembering so that you can pick a coil resistance that is going to suit the wattage that gets supplied.
How Does the OBS Pluck Perform?
For testing these coils I decided to use both a 50/50 e-liquid, Berry Ice by Vape Simple, and also a 70/30 and a Pomegranate Lemonade by Fizzle. With no wicking issues on either of the coils.
You can read about what VG/PG mean here.
OBS Pluck Kit 1.0Ω Coil – Airflow and Cloud Production
Quite a restricted vape from this one, as you would expect from a coil set up for Mouth to Lung vaping. On a 1 to 10 scale with 10 being fully open, this is around a 5.
It is possible to get a direct lung inhale on it, but for me it was just too restrictive for that style of vaping.
I much preferred vaping it with 2 of the small pinhole airflow holes showing, where it provided a really satisfying loose mouth to lung draw.
Cloud production is obviously relatively limited!
OBS Pluck Kit 1.0Ω Coil – Flavour
Very happy with the flavour on this coil. I tried it with some 70/30 e-liquid first and I’m happy to say that it wicks fine with this.
Mostly I tested it with favourite Berry Ice from Vape Simple, and it gave a very nice vape.
OBS Pluck Kit 0.4Ω Coil – Airflow and Cloud Production
As you would expect there’s a definite increase in airflow here, on the 1-10 scale it’s now a 7.5. Certainly this coil is built more for direct lung vaping.
Clouds are also noticeably fuller than you got on the 1.0Ω, but I would say that it’s closer to a pod system, than it is to something like a sub ohm tank.
This is easily my favourite of the two coils, as it’s more flexible. Although you can do a direct draw wide open, it also closes down to be a very nice mouth to lung.
Happily the wide bore of the drip tip doesn’t detract from this at all.
OBS Pluck Kit 0.4Ω Coil – Flavour
Flavour on the 0.4Ω is a little bit better than the 1.0Ω, regardless whether you’re comparing it as mouth to lung, which they can both do. Or as direct lung.
Easily as good as some of the better pod mods I’ve tried.
OBS Pluck Kit Battery
Battery life is obviously going to depend mostly on which coil you have in, and how frequently you vape.
1500mAh is a decent size for such a small device, and using the 1.0Ω coil I was easily able to get through a full day.
Switching over to the 0.4Ω, and it could still handle a day most of the time.
Having said that, there were more than a few times where I would need to top it up a bit by late afternoon/evening.
Pros
- Super Simple
- Good flavour
- Nice build quality and finish
Cons
- Top cap can fly off if you push too hard
Final Review Verdict
Although you can use the mod with another tank, I think it’s unfair to mark this as a mod/tank kit, it’s really designed to be a starter kit.
As such it does the job really well. The two coils both provide decent flavour, it’s incredibly simple to use, and it’s well put together.
There’s really not a huge amount to say about it, and that’s not a bad thing.
The only thing I can really pick it up on is the fact that if you’re heavy handed you might end up with the top cap flying off when you open it.
And trust me, once you’ve made that mistake once you won’t do it again!
This is definitely the sort of kit I would recommend to someone just starting out vaping.
Simple, straight forward, no nonsense!
Great review! I like the cut of this one’s jib. I’ve a friend who is still smoking that I think could take to this quite well.
(FYI, the JPEG for this review, on the homepage before you click on it, is a pic of what looks to me like the Joyetech Tralus 😂)
Hey JD,
Thanks for reading the review and your comments! Glad you liked it.
I’ve been thinking for some of my smoking friends this would be a good kit as well.
Also, good catch on the image, I’ve now updated it!
Cheers,
Will
