I’m putting the Nasty Salt e-liquids to the taste test and hoping for a smooth tasty vape.
With the current resurgence in mouth to lung rebuildables, and the continuing glut of pod systems, there is definitely an appetite for less viscous e-liquids.
As a committed mouth to lung vaper, I’ve always enjoy 50/50 ratio e-liquids, you can read more about PG/VG here.
I find they take a lot longer to gunk up the coils, carry more pronounced flavour, and just generally suit my style of vaping.
So I was especially happy to receive a range of 8 fruit based flavours from Nasty Juice.
What Can We Expect From Nasty Salt Vape Juice?
The e-liquids were all sent out to me in TPD friendly 10ml bottles with 10mg of Nicotine Salt.
Nic Salts are typically used in mouth to lung style devices at lower wattage. You can read about the different styles of vaping here.
Nicotine Salt is a bit different to standard freebase nicotine, and if you want to read up on it in more detail Michelle put together a fantastic guide here.
The biggest differences in using nicotine salts is that they are absorbed more quickly (good for satisfying that craving!) and they are less harsh at higher nicotine levels.
Nasty Juice is a Malaysian e-liquid company that started out in 2015. They soon brought their award winning fruity flavours to the UK in 2016, and they haven’t looked back since.
Their bold colours and flavours have made themselves a home in many vape stores. But this is actually the first time I will be trying any of their e-liquids. Obviously an oversight on my part, and one I’m keen to correct!
All 8 of the e-liquids have been supplied directly from Nasty Juice, thank you. As usual, I will report back honestly on what I find.
For all of these tests I’ve used my standard mouth to lung dripper, the Cthulhu 1928 with a 0.9Ω fused Clapton. Freshly wicked with cotton bacon for each e-liquid.
Nasty Salt Bad Blood – 50/50 VG PG
Nasty Juice Say:
A perfect blend and recreation of our famous Bad Blood 50ml. Moreover, Bad Blood is a delicious combination of sweet and ripened blackcurrants with subtle notes of mint.
I Say:
This smells like a well known blackcurrant cordial, all warming sweetness.
Vaping it and I’m actually getting more of a strawberry flavour. At least from the outset it feels very sweet and syrupy, almost too sweet actually.
On the exhale I was hoping I’d get some of the mint that was promised… as it is, I can taste more of the currant flavours from the blackcurrant.
The more I vape it, the more I’m able to pick up on the subtleties that I think are probably thanks to the mint.
All in all, it’s a very fruity flavour, but I think if they’re going to put mint in it, then it should have some cooling as well!
Nasty Salt Cush Man – 50/50 VG PG
Nasty Juice Say:
Three Layers of Goodness from the finest mangoes around the world.
I Say:
Did someone just cut a mango in half and shove it up my nose? Because that’s definitely what the smell test here is telling me.
Ripe, juicy mangoes… I’m already salivating!
Vaping it is exactly like biting into a fresh slice of juicy mango, it even manages the slightly pithy quality that you get in a mango!
The exhale is almost exactly like the inhale, a little bit more subdued. If the inhale is the juice running down your face, the exhale is chewing on those little bits that get stuck in your teeth!
I love a mango flavour, and this definitely ticks the boxes.
Nasty Salt Fat Boy – 50/50 VG PG
Nasty Juice Say:
A delicious combination of sweet Green Mangoes to tantalize your tastebuds.
I Say:
More mango here, but a little more of a subdued smell. Still delicious, but more like you’re sticking your head in a mango tree and smelling the leaves, than having one freshly chopped in front of you.
I’ve got to admit, I wasn’t actually sure what a “green mango” is.
I had images of it being an under ripe mango. Figuring it was probably some exotic variety I turned to Google… and found out it was an under ripe mango!
Apparently green mango can be sour and nutty or sweet depending on the variety, and they don’t squish as much as real mango does.
As to the vape, it’s a bit more complex than the Cush Man. There’s a hint of tartness to it, whilst still be undeniably a strong mango flavour.
Although all of these are very smooth, with not much throat hit. I found that the Fat Boy had a bit more bite to it.
Nasty Salt Green Ape – 50/50 VG PG
Nasty Juice Say:
A delicate mix of sweet and sour Green Apples to keep your taste buds on the edge.
I Say:
I’m not convinced that apple’s actually smell like this… but it’s definitely giving off the smell that you think that green apples should. More of a candy sour apple, than an actual apple.
Vaping it and it’s actually a lot more subtle than the smell would make you guess.
It’s quite a juicy, sweet apple on the inhale. Like clear apple juice, it manages to be both juicy and slightly dry.
On the exhale, there’s a little bit more tartness. And after you’ve had a vape, you can feel there’s a sour tingle on your tongue.
It’s definitely apple flavoured, and very pleasant!
Nasty Salt Hippie Trail – 50/50 VG PG
Nasty Juice Say:
A refreshing true sweet citrus experience with juicy lemon and lime.
I Say:
The lemon is at the forefront of the smell on this one. More lemon sherbet than freshly squeezed, so I’ll be curious to see if it tastes fresh or a little sticky.
On the inhale the lemon is definitely at the first out the gate. It’s juicy and tangy right from the outset.
Exhaling and there’s more of a lime kick coming through, lime is one of those flavours that I find is really hard to capture without it seeming artificial like lime cordial.
I’m really pleased to see that this has managed to capture something that tastes far more like you’ve squeezed a fresh lime. Juicy and tangy, with an underlying sourness to the whole thing.
Very tasty.
Nasty Salt Slow Blow – 50/50 VG PG
Nasty Juice Say:
Sweet Pineapple and Lime Soda fused together to bring one the best E-liquids in the market! Nasty Salt Slow Blow is a multi Award winning flavour that has won a Awards in more than 10 countries!
I Say:
Whereas all the others have had a very dominant, single fruit smell. With Slow Blow, I find it hard to pick out the individual smells.
It reminds me of a Piña Colada, now to see if it tastes like one!
Wow, this one really is like drinking a cocktail!
I thought that the pineapple was going to be the dominant flavour when I vaped it, but actually it’s the lime soda that you get most on the inhale.
It’s a fizzy little flavour you get at the beginning, and I can practically taste the carbonation on my tongue.
It would be almost too sharp and refreshing, if it weren’t for the pineapple that comes in on the exhale.
This softens everything down and mellows it out. Luscious and juicy pineapple, with no hint of sourness.
Nasty Salt ASAP Grape – 50/50 VG PG
Nasty Juice Say:
A Black Grape With Mixed Berries. Multiple Award winning flavour.
I Say:
Lots of grape comes over in the smell, very sweet and I worry it might end up being sickly. There’s definitely red fruits or berries in there as well.
I know that there a lot of grape lovers out there, and generally speaking I’m not one of them. I think that grape is often too sweet and cloying.
So I’m really pleased that this one forces me to examine my grape prejudice!
It’s sweet, but not overpoweringly so. Fresh purple grapes is definitely the taste that I’m getting from it, there’s not much tang or sourness to it, but I’m actually OK with that.
It’s still possibly a little bit sweet for an all day vape, but very tasty nonetheless.
Nasty Salt Wicked Haze – 50/50 VG PG
Nasty Juice Say:
A mix of sweet blackcurrants blended together with freshly squeezed lemonade.
I Say:
This is another one where the flavour doesn’t have as much of a single dominance of the others.
I can definitely smell blackcurrant, but it’s no where near as strong as smell from the Bad Blood. Maybe it will be a bit more subtle?
This is a far more refreshing vape than the Bad Blood. On the inhale there’s definitely blackcurrant, but it’s not totally overwhelming at all.
Whereas Bad Blood felt more like a sweet treat, this is far closer to an everyday vape.
The exhale brings the lemonade coming through as a palate cleanser. It sweeps away any lingering sweetness and has a tiny tang of sourness.
Final Review Verdict
Well all of these flavours definitely delivered on the fruit-first profiles. They’re not over complicated, allowing the headline fruit to take centre stage.
As they are nicotine salts, they were all very smooth vapes. I typically vape mouth to lung with 6mg nicotine these days, having moved down from the 12mg that helped me give up a stinkies a few years ago.
At 10mg, these are all noticeably stronger than what I’m used to now, but they don’t have the harsh throat feeling that I associate with higher nicotine content.
The one exception is the Fat Boy. I’m not sure why, but this definitely felt a lot harsher. I’m not sure whether it’s the flavours that they used that make this one stand out, but it’s certainly something to be aware of.
If you don’t like a harsh throat hit, but want mango, go with the Cush Man!
All in all, I’ve been really impressed with Nasty Juices fruit flavours. Not a single one of them felt like they’d just dumped in a load of fruit flavourings, they all felt surprisingly true to the fruits they were trying to mimic.
Cush Man was definitely one of the stand outs for me, but that is down to a personal preference for mango flavours.
Wicked Haze was a bit of a surprise, as it was probably the most subtle of the lot, but I think this really allowed their mixology to shine through.
