Mi Pod GrimmGreen Edition Review by Smoking Vapor – Plus Video Review

The Mi Pod (GrimmGreen ED) by Smoking Vapor has been getting a lot of attention in the vaping world recently.

Smoking Vapor are an American manufacture that have been producing and selling hardware since 2008 with products such as the Mi-One, Phantom X and the Venom Black Mamba E-Cigar. 

Today we are going to take a look at their Mi-Pod (pronounced Me-Pod), in particular the GrimmGreen Limited Edition, made in collaboration with YouTube’s own Nick (Grimm) Green! If by chance you can’t get hold of the Limited Edition Mi Pod don’t threat! They also have the ‘Digital’ and ‘Metal’ versions of the Mi Pod.

Design and Build Quality

The Mi-Pod – GrimmGreen Limited Edition comes in a paper sleeved box which opens like a book to revel the kit.

For an auto draw pod system that measures 51mm vertically 50mm horizontally with a 14mm width, this thing is tiny for sure, but not so tiny you would lose it in your hand, Charging takes place with the included micro usb charge cable, the port is located on the side of the unit above the operation button.The button has 3 operations, on/off and stealth, the mod has a plastic lanyard loop on the top corner opposite the pod placement.The device is made of plastic and aluminium making the mod very light and comfortable to use, the pods are also plastic with a liquid and air separation system (no leaking).The device has a window so you can keep an eye on your liquid consumption. The Mi Pod also has 3 colour battery operation lights. Overall I’ve got to say the design and quality of the device and its pods are top notch.

A Basic How to Guide

First thing you need to do with your new Mi-Pod is to charge it! I know this sounds stupid and obvious, but mine came to me with a depleted charge. Locate the micro USB charge cable in the box and charge by either plugging the Mi-Pod into your usb port on your computer or by using a dedicated wall plug.

How To Fill The Mi Pod

• Remove the silicone protective jacket.
• Turn the pod upside down
• Locate the silicone plug, remove this
• Fill the Pod with e-liquid
• Replace the plug and turn right side up!

Your Pod is ready to vape.

My Tip – On the top of the mouth piece are 2 holes, 1 for vapour and the other for airflow, drip a tiny drop of e-liquid down the airflow hole! This helps to wet the coil and cotton, There is another airflow hole to the side of the chamber, they call this the initial airflow. This can be plugged for a tighter draw, before you insert the Pod into the device cover the side airflow a give the pod a quick non powered toot this will help in drawing the liquid to the coil.

Once the Mi-Pod is completely charged (all lights will go out) place the Pod into the Mi-Pod with the gold connections marrying to the gold connections inside the device, the Pod will click into place.

To turn the device on – click the operation button (located under the micro usb port) 5 times, to turn the device off click 5 times again. To place the device into stealth mode hold the operation button down while on for 5 seconds a purple light will flash.

How Does The Mi Pod by Smoking Vapor Perform?

I am not by nature a Pod mod person LOL, what I mean is I don’t use Pod vape systems as a norm, however I do own a few like the Penguin by Joyetech, the Vype Pebble and Vype E-Pen, while each of them are good they are not for me for a variety of reasons. Either the airflow is to tight and I can’t get enough vapour to satisfy me or the pods are pre filled with an e-liquid that I just can’t stand the taste of!

The Mi-Pod by the Smoking Vapor is different; at least I think it is! Its refillable…yes, the pod is disposable after the coil is burnt out… yes, but I can at least put my favourite e-liquids in which is the main reason I’m excited by this Pod mod!

Vapour/Flavour

I’ve said it countless times before I prefer flavour over clouds any day of the week! And the flavour I receive from this device is excellent right to the last toot, the vapour is warm and plentiful although as the battery wears down the vapour can be a little disappointing as you get to its lowest voltage before needing a recharging.

Auto Draw

Some of you out there, especially new or inexperienced vapers, might be wondering what auto draw is? Basically you put the mouth piece of a device into your mouth and suck like you were smoking a cigarette; there are no buttons to be pushed no screens to look at with confusing menus, you just suck for your vapour.

Airflow

This device has an airflow that is perfect for me and loose enough to be able to get a descent straight to lung draw but not so loose that I can’t mouth to lung draw should I want to; the instructions say that a small plug is included with each Pod! My Pods didn’t include these! They are meant to further restrict the airflow.

E-liquid and Nicotine

Normally I vape 3mg e-liquid, but since owning the Mi-Pod I found that I wasn’t getting enough nicotine. So for this device I upped the nicotine to 6mg, I was expecting that I would start coughing (due to my micro lungs LOL) I didn’t, in fact I have found it very comfortable to vape with this device.

Pod /Capacity/Ohms/longevity

When I first saw that the Pods only hold 2ml of e-liquid, my initial thought was ok so I’m going to be constantly filling these darn things up all the time!

Oh boy was I wrong, a Pod filled with 2ml of e-liquid will last me a good 2hrs sometimes longer depending on how I toot the device. I am a bit concerned about the resistance of the Pod coils, while the instructions give 3 values 0.5Ω, 1.0Ω and 2.5Ω nowhere on the Pods do they reflect what ohms they are but if I had to guess I’d say mine are 1.0 Ω.

How long will each Mi Pod coil last I hear you ask? Well… so far in the last couple of weeks I have used 1 Pod and that pod is still going strong! So I would say the longevity of the coils are very good, what’s to betting now I’ve said that sods law will prevail and I’ll have to change the Pod LOL, I’d like to add I’ve had no leaks what so ever in the time I have been using the Mi-Pod!

Battery/Warnings Etc

While I haven’t used the Mi-Pod exclusively I estimate a 3hr battery life using mouth to lung style of vaping.

The battery is 950mAh built-in battery and charging takes about 1.5hrs. The battery indicator lights run as follows:

• Blue for full power
• Purple for half power
• Red for low power
• Purple light will flash when the unit is placed into stealth mode
• Red will flash for on and off.
• A Red light will flash 10 times for – low voltage protection and over use.
• A Red light will also flash 4 times for – short circuit protection, low resistance protection and overheat protection.

Pros

• Very well designed, the quality is top notch
• Great Flavour and acceptable Vapour production
• Smooth Auto Draw
• Good looking device if you like green if not other colours are available
• Nothing extra to learn – fill n toot
• Long lasting coils
• Simple pod design

Cons

• The pods are not marked with the ohms of the coil
• No A/F restrictor plugs include with the Pods
• Price at £45 this is a bit on the steep side

Final Review Verdict

Ok this is where I Gush LOL the Mi-Pod from Smoking Vapor is a super little starter kit ideal for the newbie or those with more experience, the 2ml E-Juice capacity and 950mAh battery seems a bit low spec but are just right for this unit, with top airflow and bottom filling and might I add no leaking!

The Mi-Pod brings you simplicity and over all a jolly good vape, the device I have might have GrimmGreen stamped all over it but doesn’t distract from the function, in fact I can see why Nick would allow his name to be used! This is a wonderful little thing and come highly recommended by me!

Would I buy the Mi-Pod by Smoking Vapor again should I lose or damage this one – yes I would!
