Kanger Subvod Review

Kanger have released their second starter kit (first was the Evod) in the style of a simple fixed voltage ego styled battery and the new version of the Kanger Subtank Nano, with the option to purchase the kit featuring a top or bottom filling Subtank Nano, and the option of either 1.9ml or 3.2ml capacity.

The difference with the Subvod kit is that it offers a starting point for those that want to sub ohm vape.

The kit also features Kanger’s new Stainless Steel OCC coil head, which promises to deliver smooth flavour and big vapour production.

Starter kits in the past have always been a little hit and miss as to the quality and effectiveness of them, however a starter kit produced by a big name such as Kangertech featuring great flavour and decent cloud production could really be the one to help people get off the dreaded smokes.

Kit Contents

It’s packaged in trademark Kangertech style, so for those of you new to this it means that you get a cardboard presentation package featuring the distinctive red and black Kangertech box and everything you need inside, bar juice, to get going.

The package contains-

• 1x Kangertech Subtank Nano-s (with either top or bottom fill option, and 1.9 or 3.2ml capacity)
• 1x SSOCC 0.5ohm Stainless Steel Coil Head (already fitted inside the Subtank Nano-S)

Do take time to read the instruction manual before using the Subvod kit as it does contain important safety and operation instructions. The Subtank Nano-S contains a sub ohm coil was can be dangerous if used with the incorrect battery.

Subvod Style and Build Quality

The Subvod kit actually comprises two parts- the new Kangertech Subtank Nano-S and the Kangertech Subvod battery.

The Subtank Nano-S will either have a 1.9ml or 3.2ml capacity depending on which version you have purchased and will also have either top or bottom filling. This means that you can either fill juice by unscrewing the top section or fill via inverting the tank and unscrewing it from the base of the tank.

The build quality is superb, featuring a removable delrin drip tip, excellent paint finish and a toughened Pyrex glass tank section.

You do have a replacement tank section included should you manage to break the one already fitted! The airflow is controlled via an airflow control ring at the side of the Subtank Nano-S and is easily operated to select your desired airflow setting.

The Subvod battery itself is a 1300 mAh vape pen styled battery that outputs a fixed 3.7 volts, and it handles coil resistance safely down to 0.4ohm. You only need to press the fire button in order to operate it. There is a coloured LED light around the fire button that also indicates different safety features.

It lights up when you press the power button, and if you hold the power button down for longer than 10 seconds it will cut off, so it will not fire continuously in your pocket if it presses down. 5 clicks of the power button also turn on and turn off the Subvod battery, and low battery voltage, low resistance, short circuit and overcharge protection are all built in.

There is a micro USB connector present at the bottom of the battery so you can recharge using a compatible micro USB lead, please do make sure you use a safe power source.

How Does The Kanger Subvod Perform?

It’s absolutely superior to your usual starter kit in every single way. The SSOCC 0.5ohm coil gives off some outstanding flavour and vapour production, which gives a great tasting flavour experience and also you can produce some big clouds with the Subvod Kit.

The SSOCC coils are made from stainless steel so you should expect around 2-3 weeks lifespan before needing to switch out the coil for a new one, which means that you will also save money over traditional starter kits that require coil replacement every 5-7 days.

Do bear in mind that the coil is a low resistance sub ohm coil and regardless of whether you have the 1.9ml or 3.2ml version then you will get through juice quite quickly using this device. Even a new starter may well find themselves having to refill their tank at least once throughout the day!

Airflow is adjustable so you can either mouth to lung hit (taking the vapour into your mouth before inhaling it into your lungs) or direct lung hit (inhale vapour directly into your lungs) by closing down or opening up the airflow.

This also means that you can adjust how strong the flavour is and how much vapour is produced- closed down airflow will produce more intense flavour with less vapour production and a tighter, mouth to lung hit, wide open airflow will produce less intense flavour with large vapour production and a looser, less restricted direct to lung hit.

The battery outputs a fixed 3.7v power output so the power delivered to your coil will stay the same from a fresh battery to a dead one.

Battery life is more than respectable from the 1300mAh Subvod battery and you should get a whole days use from it with moderate usage. Heavier vapers will need to recharge the battery at least once throughout the day and this is easy to do as the battery is charged via a Micro USB port found at the base of the battery.

The battery charges up fairly quickly and usually only needs a couple of hours or so to recharge fully.

The Kangertech SUBVOD kit is a starter kit that is absolutely ideal for beginners, and will do a much better job of keeping new vapers smoke free by keeping the options simple and the results top quality. Even seasoned vapers will enjoy using this kit, it’s a handy one to keep around as a spare!
