Joyetech may well be the kings of affordable vape gear because with every release, they clearly strive to innovate, satisfy and stay very much budget friendly.
You may be familiar with the tank which features in today’s kit, the D22C, especially if you checked out my review of the Cuboid Lite Kit with the D22 tank, which I covered (and enjoyed) not so long ago. The D22C tank features only minor differences…namely, a childproof top cap.
Where Joyetech’s Cuboid range of mod and mini vape mod kits was all about advanced features and innovation, their Exceed range is about stripped down, ease-of-use functionality, combined with solid performance…meaning, the Exceed range is ideal for beginners.
With the Joyetech Exceed Box Kit, essentially, they are offering us a device with practically the same dimensions, tank and battery size as their Cuboid Lite Kit but with stripped down functions that serve to lengthen that battery life, lighten the load and make it a far more efficient mini box kit to carry with you when you’re on the go.
Other members of Joyetech’s Exceed range include the Exceed D19 Pen, which is a very efficient little AIO that certainly met the needs of my fellow reviewer here on the site, Michelle. Is this one of the best mini vape mods we have come across?
All in all I’d say that this range from Joyetech has proved a great success, with the Exceed Box Kit proving to be no different…let’s check it out!

Build Quality & Design
Joyetech Exceed Box Mod
Okay! On opening up my neat little Joyetech box I was delighted to find I’d received the black and white version of the mod, which has a graded paint effect. The finish on the full range of colours has a matte spray paint feel to it, odd…but you get used to it and it actually doubles as surface grip!
The mod is a tiny, round edged rectangle that fits perfectly in hand.
One large face has the micro-usb port in the top left corner, with the Joyetech logo in the middle at the bottom, while the opposite face has the Exceed Box branding in the same place.
The narrow side, furthest from the atomiser connection, has a round, thumb tip sized fire button at the top. It’s fairly clicky, flush with the surface and it’s the only control button on the device.
The base has 10 battery ventilation slots in it and two screws are visible on either side at the middle.
Similar screws are visible on the upper surface, in between the spring loaded 510 connection and the round , LED display, which indicates battery levels in five bars, arranged in a circle around a Joyetech logo.
A light ribbon is visible just along the seam connecting the upper surface and the sides you hold on to, through this ribbon, you’ll see LEDs light up as well, when you fire…but this can be switched off if necessary.
D22C Tank
The D22C is a simplistic, little 2ml capacity tank that can easily be changed to a 3.5 ml, with the aid of the included vent pipe and glass extension, awesome!
The removable drip tip is narrow, 1.2 cm long and removable…I’ve no doubt it will be be perfect for mouth to lung hits.
The .5cm top cap is childproof and opens with a gentle press and twist to reveal an easy top fill system.
At the bottom you’ll find an adjustable airflow system, one massive slot which can be diminished with a twist, right down to a 3/2/1 pin hole MTL airflow.
Accessories
I appreciate the tank extension that’s been included, as well as the addition of both MTL and DL coil options. Joyetech has left nothing out of this little kit.
How Does The Joyetech Exceed Box Kit Perform?
Well, there’s no question about the battery being sufficient for this tank and these coils. 5 Clicks on reveals a beautiful, bright LED display.
From there, one can switch between direct or constant voltage modes, enjoying a fairly fast fire, for such a little device.
I’ve never enjoyed direct voltage, where power output diminishes with battery levels, so for me…I prefer to keep this baby in constant voltage mode, where the light burns orange, which I kinda dig anyway.
I did encounter a little bit of a problem with my fire button, which refused to switch my mod off at one stage but I did receive a sample version and I’ve no doubt this issue will be neatly ironed out with the retail version.
I found that, for all intents and purposes, the Joyetech Exceed Box kit does what it’s meant to and besides doing a good job of firing the included coils and an excellent job at power efficiency, the device features dual circuit protections, for over charge, over current and over discharge: good one!
Knowing that the box does it’s job, it’s really all about the coils and the D22C tank’s performance…
For a change, a MTL/DL tank that really does the job of MTL well. The drip tip is ideal for MTL but I would have liked to have seen a DTL friendly drip tip included also.

With that said, the airflow system covers both vape styles with ease, from a breezy DTL hit to a restricted lung or tight MTL hit, very nice.
I found myself savouring both coils on this device and the power output from the box seemed just right for both.

Stock Coil Performance
The EX 1.2 Ohm MTL coils deliver excellent flavour and vapour considering their meagre size…Definitely impressed!
I enjoyed the 0.5 Ohm DL coils even more and found the flavour very rich for a coil head of this size, along with good vapour production!
With tiny coils like this, especially ones that are getting a good dose of heat from the Exceed box, be very careful of hitting on an empty tank as these coils burn dry in a flash!

How To Operate the Menu System
- 5 Click on
- 3 Clicks to enter Constant Voltage Mode (in which the LEDs will burn orange)
- 3 Clicks to go back into Direct Voltage
- 5 Clicks off
- When off, long press for 10s will toggle LEDs
Battery Life
Outstanding battery life with this huge 3000mAh battery. I also like the sleep function: I can vape this device, without switching off for 2 full days, making it a handbag must-have and a perfect, no hassle, office-drawer device.

What I Liked
I like the Constant Voltage Option and the serious power efficiency of this device. I also enjoyed the tiny dimensions and comfortable hand feel, along with the D22C’s ability to pull of both a flavourful MTL and DL vape with the included coils.
What I Dislike
This is a nifty little kit, I just hope that some of the button issues I experienced with the sample version will be ironed out!
Final Review Verdict
Beginners to the wonderful world of vape are looking for power efficiency, ease of use, fill and charge, as well as a MTL hit that’s familiar and effective…the Joyetech Exceed Box Kit provides all of the above with shining colours!
It’s lightweight, portable, cute and vapes pretty darn well!
It might not be for me, since I love my high wattage devices but I’m going to give the Exceed Box all the points deserved for being a great bit of beginner’s gear.
And..
Would I buy this if I lost/broke the device? For sure…As long as my fire button issue was an isolated incident!
