Joyetech Espion Kit With ProCore X Tank Reviewed: A Sleek, Sophisticated Setup!

The Joyetech Espion kit is the latest setup from one of those Shenzhen vaping giants whose name is never very far from our lips. Their innovation and design skill was really brought home at the end of last year, with the incredible Atopack Dolphin Pod System, and with the Penguin Pod Mod before that.

Having enjoyed both their Exceed D19 vape Pen and their impressive Cuboid Lite Kit, I’d begun pegging them for a brand that’s all about compact convenience and squeezing a whole lot of features into a small space but today’s kit under review, the stylish Espion Kit with ProCore X tank, has proved to me that there’s a whole lot more to Joyetech!

This sleek, retro styled Espion 200W powerhouse vape mod is not only jam packed with features, quick on the ramp and seriously good looking, it also comes with a sweet, flavour punching ProCore X tank that delivers on the cloud front too.

Let’s get down and dirty and take a closer look.

Build Quality & Design

Espion Mod

On opening the neat Joyetech box packaging, I’m instantly impressed by the Espion’s sleek and sophisticated aesthetic. A narrow but tall rectangle, with rounded vertical edges, the zinc allow chassis employs a contrasting 2 textured finish.

The top surface and top 5th of the vertical surfaces is a beautiful, smooth and slightly brushed finished look extending to frame the 1.45 inch TFT color screen.

The lower 4/5 of the mod features an element that really makes this mod uniquely beautiful, a pinstripe/groove/grip effect surrounding the mod that really finishes the sleek vibe off to perfection.

4 corner screws and a nice deep, springy 510 connection in the centre dress the upper surface and the base has a very user friendly hinged battery door with ample grip and a very easy click shut mechanism.

I place a pair of 18650s in according to the prominent markers on the inside of the door and am instantly pleased by the colour and graphics on the screen, which will light up to display the time and date in a gorgeous clock face setting, even when your mod is off, as soon as a button is pressed.

Five clicks and she lights up with a beautiful spiral Joyetech logo to reveal a comprehensive and beautifully formatted screen display, with a prominent analogue clock in the middle.

Below the screen, you’ll find a single elongated button for up and down adjustments, and on the left of it, a shorter function button which will aid you during selection and settings.

The fire button, on the upper left surface when you’re facing the screen, is a thing of beauty…it’s a brushed metal plate, 20 x 24 mm and with a neat Joyetech branding engraved in it.

It’s clicky, sits flush with the side of the mod and it’s one of the better fire buttons I’ve laid my thumb on in a while.

Weighing in at 231g with cells installed and no tank…I really like the weight and overall, this is a gorgeous mod with an excellent handful that just has quality written all over it. I’m impressed.

Joyetech ProCore X Tank

Now, the ProCore X tank is of fairly simplistic, sleek design, with two big, thick, 1.5cm airflow slots and a bottom adjustable airflow that covers a good range of open/restricted to restricted flow but which looks like it may be a little full for Mouth to Lung (MTL) vaping, we’ll have to see.

The base is fairly thick, with light knurling and more than enough space to grip and twist that airflow ring.

A smaller 2ml glass was fitted when my tank arrived but I quickly swapped it for the larger 4.5 ml glass, along with the extender pipe, which fits on the end of the coil head…I definitely prefer the larger capacity but I was forced to swap out due to a hairline crack in the 2ml glass. I wish Joyetech would package their tanks a little safer, I’ve said this before.

The top cap is even more prominent, with knurling that echoes the pinstripe effect on the mod.

The drip tip can be removed but due to the construction, fitting a different 510 will leave you with an extended, long drip tip, which I actually like, especially for MTL.

How Does The Joyetech Espion Kit Perform?

The Joyetech Espion is an awesome mod! I found the new UI to be highly intuitive, as soon as I got used to selecting with the function button.

The screen is bright and I’ve enjoyed the retro colour selection, with the blue and green being my favourite for making those readings POP!

I’ve already mentioned how much I like the fire button but I must say, it not only looks and feels good, it performs well too.

I’ve been impressed by the ramp time and performance throughout of this mod, having tried and tested a full range of RDTAs, tanks and coils on this sleek powerhouse.

I’ve found the TC for Ni and SS to be accurate and easy to use and the preheat function also works a charm!

No complaints on the full range of features from this mod and what’s more, this colour display and intuitive layout make exploring features an absolute pleasure.

I’ve really enjoyed both the flavour and cloud production, along with the beautiful airflow on the ProCore X for direct lung vaping.

I also really enjoyed the MTL vape, though it took some getting used to as it’s not the most restricted MTL around, even with the airflow set right down.

I have to give kudos to Joyetech though for both the convenience of the top fill and the flavour experience from this tank…not to mention this gorgeous mod with it’s really easy to use and attractive UI.

There’s not much more I can say, this mod does the job and does it well, all while looking impossibly elegant.

ProC Coil Performance

The 0.4 and 0.25 Ohm coil heads included are for DL and MTL respectively.

The DL ProC1 coil offers ample cloud production with flavour that’s definitely above average, I found the sweet spot to be 60W for this coil.

The ProC1-S MTL coil offers outstanding flavour, with a little less but still rather good vapour production. This coil head will burn quickly if you use it for DL so watch out! I found the sweet spot to be around 40W.

How To Fill

• Find the drop marking on the top cap and push the cap away from it
• Flip the cap open
• Fill through one of the slots
• Replace the cap

How To Change the Coil

• Unscrew the pyrex from the base
• Unscrew the coil head from the base
• Replace

How To Operate the Menu System

• 5 clicks on
• 3 clicks on fire to access menu
• Function button to select menu items
• Up and down to adjust settings and Function to select
• 5 clicks on fire to switch off

How To Replace The batteries

• Pop open the hinged battery door
• Insert batteries according to markings
• Shut door

Battery Life

Really excellent battery life given the full colour and bright display, I get 12 hours on a pair of 2500s.

Final Review Verdict

The Espion Kit from Joyetech is an eye-catching mod with impressive battery efficiency and a stunning, easy to use UI. It’s jam packed with all the TC and preheat features you need, as well as a few extras thrown in for good measure.

I feel that this is a quality choice for both beginners and experienced vapers who’re looking for a solid performer with elegant, retro looks.
