Joyetech Cuboid Tap Kit Reviewed – New Taptec Feature But It’s The Tank That Shines

As is evident by looking at the Joyetech Cuboid Tap, one thing is certain, Joyetech is on a mission.

This Shenzhen brand always makes a valiant attempt to innovate and in an industry as new as the Vaping Game, innovation is everything.

Not all of Joyetech’s innovations are winners. People didn’t exactly camp out for the release of the Ocular C mod with built in MP3 player but nonetheless, a very cool piece of gear.

The Cuboid Tap Kit From Joyetech

Here comes another mod with an interesting touch, excuse the pun, in the form of the Joyetech Cuboid Tap.

It features a ‘new technology’ known as TapTec and what it’s designed to do is provide added convenience over and above the run ‘o the mill fire button. Some will see this as a convenience, while others, who forget to switch off the function before putting the device away, might consider it a hazard of sorts.

Either way, the Cuboid Tap 228 W Mod Kit is my favorite sample of Joyetech gear (although it’s only my third kit from them) to date.

The Cuboid Tap mod is not at all bad but it’s really the ProCore Aries Atomizer that impressed me here.

Build Quality & Design

On opening the standard Joyetech box packaging, I’m pleased to see the mod protected by a plastic vacuum film, which took me some time to remove, since I was far from the nearest scissors.

The Joyetech Cuboid Tap Mod, on first look, looks exactly like a miniature iJoy Captain PD270, especially since I have the Carbon Fibre Black Captain and this one is Carbon Fibre also…well Carbon Fibre look, at least.

It looks ever so slightly tacky, given the very shiny, laminated finish over the fibre detail.

Yet, this large display screen and massive touch pad (not in lieu of a fire button, but with it), together with the touch adjust buttons start to alleviate my dismay.

Some people might like the glossy finish but I see an entire history of my touches written all over it in fingerprints and I keep having to polish it.

One thing I can say about the material is that it’s silky smooth to touch, which makes for a great hand feel.

The carbon fibre looks like a dark teal and black to me but my friends only see black, perhaps I’m a positive person.

I find the brighter colors in the range to be somewhat cheap looking and definitely prefer the black and wood finish options.

The device is, in my opinion, the smallest most ergonomic fit for a dual 18650 mod, hardly bigger than 2 batteries, with an incredibly comfortable hand feel.

In Joyetech style, I found a second, smaller box underneath the mod that had the ProCore Aries Tank, spare parts, a spare coil head and charger inside. I hook up the tank and it looks perfect.

The Joyetech Cuboid Tap 228W Mod

The mod itself is zinc alloy, very light weight but with the dual 18650s inside, just the right weight.

The 510 is spring loaded, gold plated and very stable, I’ve had no problem fitting any of my tanks, definitely good quality.

You might never notice the branding unless you look from a very particular angle, it’s next to the 510 and is the subtlest branding I’ve ever seen.

The mod is tiny but the simple rectangular cylinder shape will make it a good match for any mini sub-ohm tank or smaller RDA, however I’m very much one for keeping a good kit intact and this one comes with a very cool tank.

You’ll find a big, clicky, square firing button in just the place you’d expect to find a thumb fire…on the side of the mod under the tank.

Above the massive rectangular display screen on the larger side, there is a second fire method: the very large TapTec Touch Pad, which emits a delightful vibration when you lay fingers on it.

It may sound like a bit much but this thing is cool! It can be toggled on and off and it’s great to get that little extra feedback, in the form of a smart phone like buzzzzz.

The adjustment buttons below the screen, above the micro USB port (also for updates), are also TapTec. The result is a mod with a smooth and sleek aesthetic, with flat places that secretly do things. Woe unto he who tries to use it without your permission!

There’s a Clock screensaver, just like on the Joyetec eVic Primo, which I love, it’s very classic looking and useful too.

The screen, ample and baring geometric display design details, shows mode, amperage, resistance, wattage, voltage, battery levels and materials and these options are customizable to a certain extent.

The vented battery door is a perfect pull and swing hinged door with snug and clearly marked chambers with big gold plated connections.

The Cuboid Tap mod has full temp control for your standard materials, namely Ni, SS and Ti. There is also TCR and VW mode.

Resistance bottoms out at 0.05 in TC and 0.1 in VW, not bad.

This mod not only has the touch pad feature but you can also perform operations with a squeeze maneuver. The thing is, I just can’t get this to work every time. Is it me? I don’t know.

You are meant to squeeze the sides at the bottom of the mod, reaction is slightly delayed.

From time to time I find myself in stealth mode or randomly changing settings and I don’t know why. With this number of input options, accidents are bound to happen. You clutch it weirdly while chatting and bam, you’ve done something you shouldn’t have.

The touch pad is a serious point to consider, if you’ll be pocketing or bagging the device you need to turn off that function as it will fire with even the lightest tap.

This is going to be a big issue for some people. For me, my mod is either on my desk or in my hand so I’m okay with it.

The Joyetech ProCore Aries Tank

This mini sub-ohm tank is squat and wide and, in my opinion, very pretty.

Simplistic looks with an easy bottom adjustable airflow, the tank doesn’t have a removable drip tip.

The delrin drip tip has a metal inner lining which looks awesome, the drip tip tapers toward the tip and is attached to the top cap and it feels really great between the lips. I imagine some people will not like the drip tip but I find it convenient and nicely shaped.

My tank is black with a band of uniquely etched silver knurling on the top cap…only it’s not really knurling, I think it may be decorative.

The top fill tank boasts one of the coolest refill designs yet a hinged mouth piece that you slide and flip open makes for convenient and easy refill through the ample, pliable openings in a thick rubber gasket.

Easy break down for the clean or coil change and zero splutter, gurgle or leak.

She vapes like a dream, with beautiful airflow and a very enjoyable gas mask sound (or texture, as I like to call it) together with superb flavor.

I love the look, feel and vape quality on this tank and I find the 4ml really ample and a great accompaniment for a mod of this size.

I think this tank is beautifully made, vapes like a charm, is perfectly designed and its undoubtedly the best I’ve seen from the brand.

The Included Coil Heads

Installed in the Aries you’ll find the ProC1, a 0.4 Ohm head with its sweet spot between 60 and 70 watts.

I find it to be a super vape for this range. My Twelve Monkeys e juice came across really flavorful and with a rich consistency.

The spare coil head is the ProC4 0.15 Ohm, octuple coil head, outstanding vapor production, smooth and flavorful and by many leagues a better, more consistent vape than I had expected from Joyetech.

I’m very impressed with both coil heads, I think the coil and tank match here is brilliant. The Aries has probably got a lot to do with how much I enjoy this vape.

How Does The Joyetech Cuboid Tap Perform?

The board is responsive and thorough, it registers new coils without fail and I found all readings to be accurate.

The ramp time is great, I felt a good deal of realistic wattage through various settings, TC included.

The touch pad gets warmer during hard core sessions but nothing scary.

The squeeze function I could do without. I think its the reason that my mod seems to do its own thing half the time and it irritates me when I fuss to get the settings right and a random squeeze upsets things.

Then, when I try to actually use the squeeze function, I can’t get it to work or else the reaction is massively delayed.

I love the hand feel, the touch pad and the overall vape quality and functionality of the Cuboid Tap.

It operates well throughout the wattage range and it pairs favorably with the included tank.

Battery Life and Charging

Super fast, 2 A charging means you can charge your duals in no time. I find the battery life to be considerable. I thought that the touch pad would make it drain too fast but that doesn’t seem to be the case. Above average.

How To Fill The Joyetech Aries Tank

• Find the Aries-horns shaped marking on the top cap and push the cap away from it
• Swing it open
• Fill the tank through the rubber gasket openings
• Replace the top cap

How To Change the Coil on The Aries Tank

• Grab hold of the tank by the bottom cap and twist the glass tank section to the left
• Unscrew the coil from the base and replace

What I Liked

The ergonomic size and shape of the Joyetech Cuboid Tap houses some awesome innovative functions.

Not only do I love the Aries tank design, easy refill, smooth airflow but the real highlight is the great performance from coils.

The display is nice, big and easy to read and the good ramp time leads to a super all round vape.

What I Dislike

The squeeze function and the gloss finish.

I would buy this kit again but I’d like to see some trendier color schemes.
