The IVG pod system is from a brand best known for its range of award-winning e-liquids and has branched out into the closed pod starter kit market with this simply named set-up.
IVG is an acronym for I Vape Great and from what I can gather very many of you out there enjoy their juices, so has this kit done them justice?
I’ve never sampled any of the IVG range so will be going in blind – however, I have many pod mod kit reviews under my belt right back from when they first appeared on the scene.
Our Michelle has reviewed much of the IVG juice range and bloody loved them.
What Can We Expect From the IVG Pod Kit?
It’s a generic-looking no-frills simple to use set up with a smallish 450mAH internal battery.
The kit comes with x4 2ml non-refillable pods each with different flavours. No news on refillable pods being available but we will update if IVG do release these.
There are x5 colours to choose from: black – grey – red – pink and the blue I received.
OK, this was sent to me free of charge direct from IVG – thank you – and as always my thoughts and opinions are unswayed by freebies.
So let’s see if this one does indeed “vape great“… 😉
Inside the ‘Boxes’
There’s actually x2 boxes inside the colourful sleeve:
- IVG 450mAh Pod Device
- 2ml Mango E-liquid Pod
- 2ml Blue Raspberry Ice E-liquid Pod
- 2ml Iced Berry Lemonade E-liquid Pod
- 2ml Tobacco E-liquid Pod
- USB Charging Cable
- User Manual
Quick Start Guide
- Charge the device
- Light is solid when fully charged
- Snap in a pod – Note: Leave pod to sit for at least 1 minute to allow the juice to release – important!
- x5 click on x3 clicks off
- Use the power button to vape
Key Features
This is another of those dead simple to use pod kits making it absolutely ideal for the brand new vaper looking to quit smoking.
It’s powered by an internal 450mAH battery and the pods are 2ml and contain nicotine salt based e-liquid.
- Find out more about nic salt e-liquids.
There are x4 of IVG’s famous flavours in the box: Mango – Blue Raspberry Ice – Iced Berry Lemonade and Tobacco and all are 20mg nicotine salts. The pods are ‘closed’ meaning they can’t be re-filled. Ideal for a no fuss vape.
The device can be vaped whilst charging [pass thru] and rather than vaping via the draw method, this one features a fire button which also turns it on and off.
The clever little chip has a raft of built-in safety features including a 10 second shut off if the fire button is held down – short circuit protection – overcharge protection to name just a few.
The airflow cannot be adjusted and comes in from two ports on the side of the mouthpiece which IVG says gives a tight draw, we shall see.
Design and Build Quality
With the pod inserted this is quite a long device – certainly longer than the SMOK Infinix 2 kit, however, it is lighter.
It feels like it’s made from some kind of alloy and is rather thin and whilst not feeling ‘cheap’, I don’t think it will take many knocks before becoming misshapen. The metallic paint job seems decent enough and carrying it out and about I’ve not had any scratches so far.
The pods really do need a bit of pressure to snap in and they really are a snug fit.
As I said in the Quick Start, the design of these pods means they need to sit for at least one minute. It’s pretty standard with these type of systems and is simply to allow time for the coil to activate and juice to release.
It also prevents any leakage prior to connection.
As to the design?
The IVG Pod System looks like your typical pen-style pod kit with the pods making it look like a small musical instrument – the mouthpiece adds to that look and feel.
Apart from the need to allow time for the juice to soak the coil, there’s nothing really innovative going on here.
How Does the IVG Pod System Kit Perform?
As I said, I’ve never tasted any of the IVG e-liquid range, despite a few Vaper Expo’s where the girls have, shall we say, been a little pushy lol.
I seem to recall some kind of drama about the company from the YouTube reviewing crowd, but like most of the drama over there I forget who or what is flavour of the month so to speak 😉
IVG say the kit has an ‘extremely’ tight draw, however, I beg to differ. With 10 being super-tight, I’d give this around a 7 to 7.5 which is a loose mouth to lung [MTL] vape which I find quite pleasant.

OK onto the individual flavours that come with the kit. Given IVG are multiple award winners, I was expecting big things…
IVG Mango 20mg Nic Salts
A delicious smell coming from this one, really capturing that fruity goodness.
The inhale was a little lacking until half a dozen puffs when it kind of kicked in.
Sure I can taste mango but I was hoping for a much fruitier hit than what I got.
Almost but not quite as delicious as the aroma!
Blue Raspberry Ice 20mg Nic Salts
Again an absolutely mouthwatering smell coming from this one.
Weirdly even half way into the by now well broken in coil – I’m not getting a blue slush style vape – more bubblegum!
And again the flavour promises for a brief moment then seems to fade away – very annoying and a distinct lack of an expected cooling effect too.
Tobacco 20mg Nic Salts
Not such a nice smell off this one – think very early Chinese based tobacco flavoured juice – as in sickly sweet.
As to flavour – it’s a no from me with the cloying burned sugar kind of taste leaving a nasty smell in the air.
I had to drink plenty of water whilst vaping half the pod…a big nope from me!
Iced Berry Lemonade 20mg Nic Salts
Once again another wonderful aroma from this one – really did get me licking my lips.
And yet again a split second on your tongue suggests a fruity tasty vape – but nope, it fades like a fizzy lemonade left to go flat.
There’s not a hint of fizz either. However, out of all of the IVG pods this is the one I emptied first so I guess that says something.
How’s the Throat Hit and Vapour?
The throat hit is more of a gentle tickle with all the flavours and that’s down to the smoothness of nic salt based e-liquids.
The beauty of these types of juices is you can enjoy higher levels of nicotine without the harsh throat hit. For brand new vapers straight off the lit cigs that can be a little confusing as the harsh throat hit is for many what’s missed – it’s a balancing act that trial and error will sort out.
As for vapour?
I tend not to care too much about that from MTL devices, however the vapour is OK though certainly more light mist than fog.
Pros
- Dead simple to use
- All you need to get vaping in the box
- Plenty of safety features
- Quick charge time
- Battery lasts about 6 hours
- Pods lasted me about a day and half
- No leaks
Cons
- Flavour a little muted
- Not the sturdiest pod kit out there
Final Review Verdict
Much of the vape review scene is suffering from “pod kit fatigue” – as in there’s so many of them now it’s all getting a bit silly.
I actually reviewed one of the first pods to arrive on the scene many moons ago, the Kimsun Slim 2 and didn’t really like it, or indeed what I saw was the way vaping was heading – as in pods pods everywhere.
Anyway, has the IVG pod starter kit bought anything new to the pod party?
In a word No. It’s not the worst pod kit I’ve tried/reviewed and nowhere near the best – it is what it is a rather nondescript generic pod kit with low power, really high resistance at 1.4 ohm coils that aren’t doing the ‘award winning’ flavours justice.
