The Innokin Pocketmod Starter kit is a small All In One vaping device. It’s a funky and easy to carry little mod.
This is a very similar in design and marketing strategy as the Artery Lady Q which we reviewed. The Pocketmod does have the upper hand though boasting a 2000mAh battery capacity – compared to the Lady Q having only 1000mAh.
The Innokin Pocketmod Starter kit does have slightly more scope than the Lady Q as there are 2 coils included to cater for MTL and DTL vapers – a Sub Ohm 0.35 ohm coil and a 1.2ohm coil.
Let’s have a look if the performance matches the looks!

Build Quality & Design
This is quite attractive in an Umbrella Handle style way – made more apparent when you install the supplied Lanyard.
But no denying it is small and cute.
I could not get the lid off this for the life of me. In the end resorted to levering it off with a knife, which resulted in a big scratch to the lid. Good start.
There are 2 drip tips thankfully as the installed Ultem drip tip for me is hideous – I have a pet hate of this. So I popped on the smart black drip tip. I say “popped” that makes it sound easy doesn’t it. What really happened was half an hour of pushing the drip tip on a table into the mod -as it was that tight and needed to be pushed in fully to sit flush.
The metal components look very classy – the whole airflow ring/coil holder top piece is metal and there is a metal band around the body with cut outs for the liquid viewing windows. I do have to say this looks and feels so solid. The metal components just add to the classy and robust feeling of this.
The rest of the body is a rubberised soft touch texture. I received the black model for review.
You have a single fire button and airflow adjustment. Other than filling, charging and coil changes that’s all you need!
There are two windows to view the E-liquid level and both have the Max mark clearly indicated.
A small LED on the front and the tank also lights up when charging or firing.
In The Hand
How Does the Innokin Pocketmod Starter kit Perform?
Basic operation
To switch on or off press the fire button 3 times.
To vape press the fire button when inhaling.
There is a battery level indicator:
- Green LED = Full battery
- Yellow LED = Half full battery
- Red LED = Low battery
How To Charge The Pocketmod
To charge use the supplied USB cable with one end connected to a suitable USB outlet and the other end plugs into the port on the rear of the mod.
The lights will cycle through the colours whilst charging.
When fully charged the lights will go out.
How To Fill The Pocketmod
On this it is really critical to not exceed the Max fill level. Because you have to remove the coil from the tank – if you over fill it will push liquid out when you install the top of the tank again.
- Unscrew the top airflow ring from the body.
- Looking at the viewing window squeeze E-liquid in until it reaches the max level as marked.
- Install the coil and airflow ring.
How To Change The Coil Head
Coil heads do not last forever sadly, if you notice poor performance or a burnt taste the head will need to be changed. Also if you accidentally fire this without sufficient E-liquid it will damage the coil.
- Remove the top airflow ring from the body.
- Unscrew the coil from the base of the airflow ring.
- Install a new coil.
- Add E-liquid to the areas of cotton showing on the new coil head.
- Fill the tank to the “Max” mark.
- Replace the top airflow ring onto the body.
- Leave the Pocketmod to stand for a while for the liquid to soak into the coil.
- Take a few inhales without pressing the fire button to pull liquid through the coil.
Flavour & Cloud Production
I used an 80% VG E-liquid for the 0.35 ohm coil.
I used a 50/50% VG/PG E-liquid for the 1.2ohm coil.

0.35ohm Coil
I am stumped – I really am.
The combination of me, Pocketmod and 0.35ohm coil really doesn’t work?
I have tried thinning my 80% VG E-liquid to see if that helps, I have tried removing the rubber cap inside the tank (some say this is an isolator).
I reviewed the Innokin RipTide Crios kit at the same time as this and the Crios kit needed overnight for the E-liquid to soak into the coils – so I left the Pocketmod overnight to see if the performance improved in the same way. But sadly it didn’t.
There was a pack of 5 coil heads with this – all the 0.35ohm so I thought it may be the coil head in the kit was faulty (this does happen sometimes) – but using a new coil out of the extra pack was the same?
If I am honest I am finding this 0.35ohm coil really disappointing.
There is a lot less taste and vapour as similar resistance coils. It doesn’t seem to be having any dry hits (unless the tank level is low) which makes me think this is not a wicking or E-liquid issue?
The only other thing it could be is it still needs thinner E-liquid than I have got? I have other 0.3ohm and similar resistance coils – and they cope with 70-80% VG E-liquid fine. Perhaps the wicking holes in this coil are really too small? Or it is a very thick cotton? What I would say is use an e-liquid around 60VG with these coils.
You need to really keep an eye on the liquid level as this guzzles the liquid and you will be tasting burnt cotton in no time.
Also the coil wicking holes are half way up the tank when installed. So if the tank level drops below this there is no liquid getting into the coil. So you will need to top this up before that point to prevent damage to the coils.
1.2ohm Coil
Aha this is much better – this is obviously what this device was designed for!
This 1.2ohm coil is far better. The airflow just works perfect for MTL too.
Great taste, good vapour and good throat hit.
Having used this for a week with the 0.35ohm coil I kept looking to fill this up – but with the 1.2ohm coil this doesn’t guzzle the liquid at all!
In my opinion this is the only coil that should have been supplied with the Pocketmod. It works perfectly.
Battery Life
Using the 0.35ohm coil I got 7.5 hours of vaping before the battery light went red.
The battery will last longer with the 1.2ohm coil – so a minimum of 7.5 hours from a 2000mAh battery is excellent.
What I Like
The Innokin Pocketmod is very stylish and compact. Feels like a quality item!
As an MTL device with the 1.2ohm coil this works – airflow great, taste and throat hit good.
What I Dislike
I found the top cap near on impossible to remove. Was scared to put it back on in case it wouldn’t come off again.
Coil head wicking holes too high up and means you cannot let the tank level drop below this or you will damage coils and get a vile dry hit.
I cannot get this to perform with the 0.35ohm coil at all although it could be down to my e-liquid PG/VG ratio.
Final Review Verdict
The Innokin Pocketmod Starter kit sure is a looker and the price point is great.
My verdict is – buy this as a small MTL starter device, it’s perfect. I can’t say the same for the sub ohm performance.

- Lovely feeling to the rubberised finish
- Airflow adjustment
- Easy to use
- Two drip tips supplied
- Good kit contents
- LED battery indicator and the lit up tank are great additions.
- Easy to fill and change coils.
- 1.2ohm MTL coil is perfect.
Cons
- The protective cap is impossible to use.
- Coil head wicking holes too high.
- 0.35ohm coil really doesn’t work well on this.
