Time for me to get to grips with the new Innokin Klypse Zip Pod Kit!
I reviewed its larger sibling the Innokin Klypse back in May 2022 – which has a few things in common with this version!
What To Expect From The Innokin Klypse Zip…
This version is very similar to the original Klypse but in a smaller size and with a couple of updates!
The first update makes me very happy, there is a multi-colour battery charge indicator light. This was sadly missing from the original version which was annoying.
Also there are some new pod options.
This is compatible with the original 0.8ohm Klypse Pod plus there is a new 1.2ohm Mesh pod too. The pods have fixed coils so you will dispose of them when the coil has passed its best.
If you want even more simplicity, there are pre-filled Innokin Klypse C1 pods available separately which are compatible. These should be ideal for starter vapers or those upgrading from a Disposable Vape.
There are 16 flavours, 2ml in capacity and you can choose from 0mg or 20mg nicotine strengths.
This time the device has a 650mAh battery which charges at a 0.75A charge rate via the USB Type C port. This is only 50mAh smaller than the original Klypse (at 700mAh) yet the Zip is significantly smaller!
Other handy features are a hook for use with a lanyard and the cap to prevent dust entering the mouthpiece.
There are 8 colours to choose from: Scarlet, Mint, Indigo, Charcoal, Blush, Purple, Pearl and Graphite.

Thank you to Innokin for sending this over for review! I will report back honestly on my experience with the device supplied.
Innokin Klypse Zip Design and Build Quality
I received this in the Charcoal and Graphite versions plus 2 packs of the pre-filled pods in the AQBull Ice and Cherry Lemonade.
I was also sent two more in the Scarlet and Indigo colours with two more pre-filled pod flavours in the Peach Ice and Mango Passion Ice flavours.
The pre-filled pods were 20mg Nicotine strength and 2ml in capacity with a 1.7ohm coil.
So this kit really does offer the best of both worlds – refillable and pre-filled pods!
This comes in fully recyclable Cardboard packaging, which is a bit hard to open! You have to cut the sealing stickers to slide out the inner tray.
Inside the tray you will find the device, with the pod and cap installed. In the back of the tray are the instructions and a warning booklet.
The instructions are OK, but they do not mention any protections or fault conditions. I am therefore not sure if there are any protections or what the device does in the event of a fault. You can view the instructions online here.
Both devices arrived in pristine condition! There is a protective cover on the top cap and an isolator sticker on the base of the pod which need removing after filling and before use.
Innokin Klypse Zip Mod
This is very much a mini version of the original Klypse.
The body has the same shape a kind of Oval profile with chamfers on each side.
My two devices have a matte metallic finish with the top and base being hard Black plastic.
The base features the USB Type C port, all the legal logos and battery capacity.
Unfortunately this is also where the LED lives, so you cannot see it when vaping, you have to quickly get the device out of your mouth to catch the LED before it turns off!
Handy Tip: keep the side with “Innokin” printed on facing upwards when vaping and you will just about see the corner of the LED indicator without having to turn to look at the base.
On the front and back the device is plain apart from the chamfered edge, which has “Innokin” and “Klypse Zip” printed on in White.
Above the metallic area is the black Plastic which has a textured section.
On the top is the port for the pod and a loop for attaching a lanyard. As there is no lanyard included, this does look a bit ugly.
Inside the pod port you will find 2 spring loaded contacts, 2 magnets and a tiny airflow tube. The pod is held in here magnetically and is held in firmly – a bit too firmly for me. I have slightly gammy hands and the pod is hard to grip – so I had to resort to using my teeth to remove it.
You only have to slightly insert the pod and the magnets are strong enough to pull it in.
This does look pretty good quality apart from the top face which has some lines which look like casting marks / seams and of course the ugly lanyard hook.
The cover cap fits tightly but not too tight to remove and is made from a shiny Black plastic with textured areas on the side.
Innokin Klypse Pod
The pod is the same as you would find on the original Klypse and they are compatible between both devices.
You only get the 1.2ohm pod included in the kit.
Whilst the majority of the pod is a lightly smoked Black plastic, you cannot see the full e-liquid level when it is inserted into the device. You can only view the mouthpiece area so you may find yourself either tipping the device around or removing the pod to try and see how much e-liquid is left. This is not ideal, especially as you need to keep it topped up above the “minimum” mark.
The rear of the pod has the required legal logos printed on clearly.
On the front of the pod you will find a “Minimum” fill level line – not that you can see this when the pod is in the mod. Also there is the Klypse logo and pod resistance printed on.
At the side of the pod is a Blue silicone fill port cover. This has an arrow to show you where to lift and you can also swing it out of the way when filling.
The circular fill port is around 4mm in diameter which is fine for most bottle nozzles.
The pod base has the contacts, magnets and airflow inlets. Looking at the pod base it appears that the airflow inlets are not symmetrical and perhaps rotating the pod 180° might allow for different airflow restrictions? I will investigate that later on.
The mouthpiece is a smooth and comfortable “Duck Bill” style.
Klypse C1 Pre-filled pods
I received 4 packs altogether of the pre-filled pods.
These pods are not transparent, they are a full Black plastic.
You get the flavour and Klypse C1 logo printed on the front clearly and the rear has the required legal logos.
The base is the same as the refillable pod apart from this time the airflow inlets are symmetrical – so I assume there will be no difference whichever way around you insert the pod.
Innokin Klypse Zip Quick Start Guide
The pod is already installed but you will need to fill it and remove the isolator sticker from the base to get it to work.
I found it was mostly charged from the box but did need another 10 minutes of charge to be full.
If using the pre-filled pods you must remove the pod from the paper bag, and remove the protective covers from the mouthpiece and base of the pod.
Basic Operation
- Power On/Off = This does not have an on/off switch.
- Vaping = Just inhale on the mouthpiece to trigger the auto fire system.
- Battery indicator = Red light = 10% charge remaining or less, Yellow light = 10-30% and Green light = above 30%.
- Battery indicator when charging = Red light = less than 90% charge, Green light = more than 90% charge, turns off when fully charged.
Protections
No fault conditions are listed in the instructions.
How To Charge The Battery
The charging rate is specified as 0.75A.
Note: there is no charging cable included in the kit, so you will need to purchase a USB Type C cable if you don’t already own one.
- Using a USB type C cable, connect the small end into the USB port on the mod.
- Connect the large end of the cable into a suitable USB outlet.
- The LED will cycle from Red to Green and turn off when fully charged.
The charging time for me using a mains charging plug was between 1 hour and 1 hour 10 minutes.
How To Fill the Pod
- Remove the pod from the mod.
- Open the fill port cover.
- Fill the pod through the fill port.
- Push the fill port cover closed firmly.
- If first time use or a new pod leave this to stand for 10 minutes for the e-liquid to soak into the wicking. Failure to do this will result in the vape from hell (Dry Hit).
- Plus you can take a few dummy vapes on the pod before you insert it into the mod to help the e-liquid flow through.
- Also make sure to refill when the pod level is at the “Minimum” marking to prevent pod damage.
How Does the Innokin Klypse Zip Perform?
For this review I used the Monster Labs Lemonade Monster e-liquid in the Pink Lemonade flavour.
This is a 50/50 PG/VG blend – ideal for low power pod kits with a 20mg Nicotine Salt strength.
If any of these terms are over your head – have a read of our handy guides below!
- MTL V DTL V RDL – A Guide To Vape Styles
- VG and PG in E-liquid – all you need to know
- Beginners guide to E-liquid
- Nic Salt E-liquid
Klypse 1.2ohm Pod
I did originally try this with my usual homemade IVG Bubblegum e-liquid. I add 6mg of Nic salt and it has a 50/50 VG/PG ratio.
Despite the fact I use a high concentration of flavour, my e-liquid does not really suit this coil. I found the flavour and throat hit to be below average, but the vapour output is pretty impressive!
But to be fair this pod is designed for higher nicotine strengths as it has a high resistance, low power coil. So I decided to use the Lemonade Monster Pink Lemonade flavour in here with 20mg of nic salt.
There is definitely an improvement and this does give a decent flavour. But I have to be honest I have had far better flavour from other pod kits. However a new vaper would be perfectly happy to use this with a good strong e-liquid.
I would suggest using over 15mg nic strengths in here to get the best performance. Also many e-liquids now are designed to replicate the concentration of flavour you would find in a disposable vape. These would be ideal for this kit.
If you are using lower strengths or just standard e-liquid I would recommend purchasing the 0.8ohm Klypse pod as that is a far better performer (I reviewed it with the original Klypse Pod Kit). It would however be a bit harsh with the higher nic strengths.
A great “Pro” for this pod is the fact it is so economical on e-liquid use. You feel like you rarely have to fill it!
Klypse Cherry Lemonade Pre-filled Pod
I could just use an image here to describe what this tastes like!
Do you get an idea of the flavour from that one image? Weirdly I have some of these Sour Cherry Jelly sweets in some small Haribo bags and this pod tastes exactly the same!
There is a sour edge which also feels fizzy like the coating you would find on these sweets with a yummy Cherry back note.
Up to 600 puffs are promised from the pre-filled pods, but sometimes this is meaningless. It all depends on how long you inhale for. I take 3-4 second long inhales so this could affect the puff count drastically.
At around 320 puffs the flavour had pretty much gone and it was verging on dry hit time. But again puff counts are not an accurate way to measure performance as I take long inhales.
Klypse AQBull Ice Pre-filled Pod
This worked perfectly from the first puff but I am not really digging this flavour.
There is definitely some of the Bull energy drink going on but with a weird earthy back note?
That back note is just too weird and reminds me of Pineapple Cube sweets mixed with Mango and Soil.
I am sure many people will enjoy this, but as someone who detests the earthiness of Mango it is not for me at all.
This makes marking this pretty difficult. As there is no flavour description to go by, all I have is a name. The name suggests the Red Energy drink so it does deliver on that category. But it can’t get 10/10 because of the odd aftertaste going on.
Mango Passion Ice Pre-filled Pod
As there are no flavour descriptions I assume the “Passion” means “Passionfruit”?
If you read our reviews a lot, you will know of my intense dislike of Mango in e-liquid.
I am sorry but I can’t help it! Also I am totally drawing a blank as to what Passionfruit tastes of. There has not been an e-liquid for me to review that was just that single flavour and I have never tried the fruit in real life.
When inhaling you definitely get the ice, but it is not overpowering to the point where it numbs your tastebuds. Following on from that the Mango kicks in strong.
I can’t pick out any other taste which could be allocated to Passionfruit, it is all Mango.
So I will drop a mark for the lack of anything other than Mango and Ice as the name infers there will be Passionfruit.
I could be wrong and the “Passion” in the name of the title could mean it is Lustful or Driven?
Airflow
This has quite a tight airflow which is not adjustable. I did try to rotate the refillable pod 180° as the airflow inlets on the base appeared to be different. But I didn’t notice any difference at all.
If I was to rate the airflow using a scale of 0 = fully closed and 10 = unrestricted fresh air, I would rate this around 1.5 to 2. Ideal for an MTL vaper, especially an ex-smoker as it is the kind of draw you would need for a cigarette.
If you were hoping for an RDL (Restricted Direct Lung) vape, nah – this kit isn’t for you I am afraid!
The airflow was also exactly the same for the C1 pre-filled pods.
Mod Performance
The auto draw is super reliable and quick. No stuttering or refusing to kick in.
I found the battery life to be surprisingly efficient – seeming to take forever for the LED to change from Green.
As for output – as this felt under-powered all the time with the 1.2ohm pod, there was no difference in power felt during all stages of battery charge depletion.
There have been no faults or malfunctions at all!
Leaks
Nope – not a drop from either the refillable or pre-filled pods.
Battery Life
This is always variable depending on your own vaping habits and the coil resistance of the pod installed.
With the 1.2ohm refillable pod I got 5.5 to 6 hours of vaping on each charge – roughly 2 refills.
Pros
- Pre-filled or refillable pods available – ideal for those who want to try vaping or upgrade from disposables
- 3 Colour battery indicator LED – much improved from the original Klypse!
- Fully recyclable packaging
- Easy to use pod fill port
- Comfortable mouthpiece
- Cover cap to keep the ming out of the mouthpiece
- Super simple to use with auto draw and no adjustments
- Far less waste than a disposable single use vape
- Despite small size – the battery capacity is only 50mAh less than the original Klypse!
- Very efficient on e-liquid use – 150 puffs per refill (around 1.5ml) on the refillable pod.
- Compatible with the 0.8ohm Klypse pod
- 1.2ohm pod ideal for strong nicotine and “Bar Salts” type e-liquid
- Pre-filled pods were great performers
Cons
- Only 1 pod included – which is a shame if you accidentally burn out the pod included you are stuck.
- No USB cable included – but this does help to reduce the price and most people have USB C cables knocking around anyway.
- Hard to grip the pod when removing – I had to use my teeth (my hands are bit dodgy)
- LED indicator is on the base, so you cannot see it very well when vaping!
- Lanyard hook looks ugly (subjective)
- Appears to be casting seams / marks on the top of the device
- Cannot see e-liquid level when pod inserted into device apart from mouthpiece area. You have to remove the pod to view the “minimum” marking on the pod.
- Not sure how readily available the pre-filled pods will be? Will many vendors stock them in all flavours and all nicotine strengths? But of course you can always order online!
- 1.2ohm pod is weak with under 15mg nicotine strength e-liquid, I think Innokin should include the 0.8ohm in the kit as well
- Slowish charging time of 1 hour 10 minutes.
Final Review Verdict
Bearing in mind many retailers are selling this at roughly the price of two 600 puff disposables this is excellent value for money. Even the refillable pods are a bargain for a pack of 3. Half the price most brands charge anyway!
You can also use this to upgrade from a disposable vape as the pre-filled pods take away any filling or coil changing hassles. The pre-filled pods worked really well. However the refillable pods are still pretty simple to use and then you have more freedom over your nicotine strengths and flavours.
Of course only replacing the pod component in both scenarios is far less waste than discarding a full single use disposable device.
I am happy that the battery LED has been updated since the original Klypse as that only told you when the battery was about to conk out. With the Zip version we have a 3 colour LED which informs you with plenty of warning of when you need to charge.
A few points were knocked down for build quality (a few casting marks on the top of both devices) and design (due to the LED position, restricted e-liquid level view and ugly lanyard hook).
The main weak point is that the kit was only supplied with the 1.2ohm pod.
If you are expecting the 1.2ohm pod to compete with the likes of a Disposable vape, OXVA Xlim or Uwell Caliburn for flavour – then you will be very disappointed as it is not in the same league.
However it is not terrible. The device itself is great, everything works how it should and it is by no means a poor introduction to vaping. Especially if you are using strong (over 15mg) nicotine strength e-liquids.
Compared to the excellent 0.8ohm pod supplied with the previous Klypse, the 1.2ohm pod is not a great performer for lower nic strength e-liquids.
I urge Innokin to chuck in the 0.8ohm pod and make this kit more versatile. I personally wouldn’t mind them adding a couple of quid to the price to cover it. Adding both types of pod would really show the potential of how good the Klypse Zip could be.
To sum up – the device is good, the value for money is great, it is just a case of the included pod not being suitable for all vapers.
