In for review today is the Geekvape Wenax U pod kit.
Its crazy isn’t it?
It’s been over two years since we looked at the Geekvape Wenax Stylus pod kit, their first foray into lower powered pod kits. It arrived not long after the incredibly popular Aegis Boost.
Time flies but never stands still in the vape industry. Since the Stylus’ release back in April 2020 there have been numerous versions of this pod kit including the Wenax K1 and Wenax M1.
You just can’t take your eye off the ball. Shenzhen based Geekvape certainly don’t and it shows with their commitment for innovation, passion and quality.
True geeks of the vaping world!
With integrated batteries, sealed pods and coil resistances between 7W – 20W, the Wenax range of pod kits is specifically targeting the new or casual vaper.
And so is the latest Wenax U pod kit. Let’s take a closer look. Thanks to Vape Club for sending this device for review purposes. As always, my thoughts are my own.
What Can We Expect From the Geekvape Wenax U Pod Kit?
The Wenax U pod kit gets its name from the U cartridge (or pod) and is compatible with the Wenax AU, Obelisk U, Sonder U and Digiflavor Digi-U.
The pods are of the sealed variety in that the coil is already installed and is non replaceable.
The kit comes with the 0.7ohm U cartridge but a 1.10ohm version is also available for an even tighter MTL (mouth to lung) vape.
Usually for pod systems with higher coil resistances the airflow is fixed but that’s not the case with the Wenax U. It has adjustable airflow by way of a two gear switch on the side of the battery section.
So Geekvape assures us we can expect a much tighter airflow and possibly stronger throat hit.
It’s not just about simply auto drawing though because the Wenax U has additional functionality. The on/off button can be toggled to employ a three step power output.
As with most of the range the Wenax U comes with an integrated 1000mAh battery that can be fast charged via type C USB.
The Geekvape Wenax U comes in 8 colour schemes. Pick from Orange, Green, Black, Gunmetal, Pink, Champagne Gold (under review), Sky Blue or Blue.
Both TPD and standard versions are identical and feature the same contents.

Geekvape Wenax U Pod Kit – Design and Build Quality
Battery Section
The first thing to note is how incredibly light the Wenax U is. You’ll have no issue placing in a shirt or trouser pocket, more than likely forgetting it’s even there!
It carries a nice metallic sheen although still something of a finger print magnet. I particularly like the two block colour effect, shiny on the top half, matt spray finish below.
A nice mature look – for a change.
Curved edges mean the device is extremely comfortable in the hand.
On the rear is a single fixed airflow slot for that crucial MTL vape. The front is home to the business end of things.
It’s here that we find the 2 gear switch button for airflow adjustment, the on/off button that toggles as three step power control and underneath this is the LED indicator.
..Don’t be fooled into thinking the on/off button is a fire button. The Wenax U functions strictly as an auto draw device.
The Type C charging port has been relegated to the base of the device. Nothing unusual there for a pod kit. It’s actually deeply recessed which safeguards it against potential damage.
These tiny details are often overlooked but tend to be important aspects of the build.
Pod Section
Made from the industry standard PCTG plastic for strength and durability, the top half of the pod is clear and the lower half (recessed inside the battery section) is frosted.
The pod is side filling by way of a silicone stopper and the fill port opening caters more towards those 10ml bottle nozzles.
It’s reversible in that it can be fitted inside the battery either way round and relies on two magnets that aren’t all that strong.
The Wenax U pod kit doesn’t pass the drop test, in other words.
The 0.7ohm coil is sealed inside so there’s no ‘how to replace the coil’ section today, folks..
Finally, the mouthpiece is suitably restricted for MTL airflow and is incredibly comfortable when held to the lips for a toot.
Quick Start Guide
How To Operate the Geekvape Wenax U Pod Kit
- Press the fire button 5 times to turn the device on or off
- Press the fire button 3 times to toggle between power settings.
When altering power settings the led will turn colour to denote:
- White – low power
- Blue – medium power
- Green – High power
The LED also informs of current battery status:
- Green – 70 – 100%
- Blue – 32 – 69%
- Red – 0 – 30%
Safety First!
The Wenax U may be a small pod kit but it’s not without built in safety features.
- Low battery – Red LED flashes five times
- No atomizer – Red LED flashes three times
- Atomizer short – Red LED flashes eight times
- Output timeout – If vaping exceeds 10 seconds the red LED will light up for 3 seconds
How To Fill the Pod
The pod comes installed so simply lift it out to remove from the battery section.
- Lift the fill tab on the side of the pod
- Gently pour E-liquid into the fill chamber of the pod
- Push the fill tab back into place making sure it’s sealed correctly
- Drop the pod back into the battery section
Try not to over fill the pod. You only need to fill to a level above the cotton wicking ports on the coil.
When filling a new pod let the juice soak into the cotton for around five minutes before vaping.
How Does the Geekvape Wenax U Pod Kit Perform?
You only get the 0.7ohm U cartridge with the kit so that’s our centre of focus. It’s rated between 16-19W.
I would only recommend using liquid ratios of 50VG/50PG. You might get away with a 60VG/40PG mix but don’t use any thicker juice with the Wenax U. It’ll struggle with this lower powered coil and will definitely lead to a few nasty dry hits.
I used Vampire Vape Bar Salts Strawberry Ice containing 10mg salt nicotine. You can also use 20mg strength if you so desire. Either will work effectively in the Wenax U.
Low Power Setting
I was quite surprised by the flavour quality on the lowest power setting. The sweetness is instant and the Strawberry pulls through nicely too. It’s clean and well defined on the exhale.
Of course, the Menthol properties are on point since they don’t require additional power.
Cloud production is suitable stealthy. In fact, there’s not a great deal on offer which is ideal for when discretion is called upon.
The inhale is smooth, quiet and turbulence free. So all good there.
Medium and Higher Power Settings
However, I couldn’t make out much difference when using the other power settings. The changes in wattage are minimal so it’s hard to notice.
The vape got marginally warmer on the highest setting but that’s about it. I think some of the Menthol properties were slightly stronger too but again, nothing to write home about.
Airflow Switch
About this. When the switch is in the up position airflow is at its most restrictive. The problem is, there’s still airflow entering from the fixed pin hole on the opposite side of the battery.
As a consequence I found the Wenax U too loose when it came to that vital MTL pull. It’s workable for sure but just not as tight as I would’ve liked.
Even more airflow enters once the switch is in the down position. This allowed me to get a decent restrictive lung vape – that’s how I ended up vaping the majority of the time.
So it looks like the 0.7ohm is specifically designed for RDL vaping and the 1.1ohm for MTL. If that is the case, even more reason to have included it with the kit.
Battery Performance and Recharging
You can either check the status of the battery while auto drawing on the Wenax U or by lifting the pod out and re attaching it.
The battery held out for 11 hours, which was good. All throughout use the flavour and vapour production remained consistent and punchy.
The odd thing was how quickly the Green LED would change to Blue which initially concerned me in terms of battery life. I needn’t have worried though because it took an eternity for the Blue LED to turn Red.
A similar thing occurred while recharging. The Red LED remained pulsing forever before completely skipping Blue and switching to Green instead.
It will take around an hour to recharge a spent battery and during this time it’s possible to vape if patience isn’t a virtue.
Pros
- Good flavour and stealthy vapour production
- Very light weight and pocket friendly
- Ergonomically designed
- No leaking from the sealed coil
- Sizeable LED
Cons
- On/off switch doesn’t always respond
- Airflow switch is more effective as an RDL vape than MTL
- Connecting magnets aren’t that strong (subjective)
- Doesn’t come with the 1.1ohm U cartridge
- Unable to charge in a vertical position
- Finger print magnet and prone to scratches (subjective)
Final Review Verdict
I like the U cartridge. The coil is fantastic and provided me with an intense, saturated vape – there’s no denying that. So it’s going to work a treat with drink based profiles such as the one tested.
In fact all the categories that don’t rely on additional heat. So fruits, mints, menthol and sweet based ones should vape brilliantly.
However the MTL restriction is a little on the loose side even using the tightest switch position. If you’re into a restrictive lung hit, the Wenax U is pretty darn good.
I know. Seems an odd thing to say given the small build and a coil rated between 16-19W.
The 1000mAh integrated battery performs well throughout charge. I was hammering it on the most powerful (green LED) setting and it didn’t bat an eye. A consistently good quality vape received every time.
Overall the Geekvape Wenax U is a satisfactory little starter pod kit. Functionality is simple, it doesn’t leak, it’s pocket friendly and decent flavour is on offer.
Four of the vital ingredients for keeping ex smokers vaping!
Job done, I’d say.
