This time I’m going to be looking at the newly released Geekvape Obelisk 120 FC box mod.
This device has two internal lipo batteries and will fire at 120w, and has the capability of fast charging!
Founded in 2015 GeekVape is based in China, and has a great name for innovation within the vape industry.
Geekvape has a large back catalogue of products which include the Aegis range of mods, and tanks like the Zeus X RTA, Zeus X Mesh RTA, Zeus sub ohm tank, and their new tank the Z Max Tank
What Can We Expect From the Geekvape Obelisk 120 FC?
I’ve got to say I love the attention to detail that Geekvape give its products, I love my Geekvape Aegis Legend I always included it within my daily rotation!
So when I was asked to review the Geekvape Obelisk 120 FC mod, I literally jumped at the chance!
The Obelisk 120 FC mod has shiny side panels almost mirror like in a way, it has two internal lipo batteries that total 3700mAh, the device can be used for OTG reverse charging.
Its menu system is intuitive and easy to understand, the device has a USB type C charge port, all this and a full colour TFT screen as well!
Geekvape has produced the device in 4 distinctive colours – Silver, Black, Blue and Gunmetal.
This product was sent to me for the purpose of review.
As always my thoughts and views are my own after a considerable testing period.

Design and Build Quality
I received the mod only kit!
The Geekvape Obelisk 120 FC mod come presented in a cardboard box with a paper over sleeve, the only other thing to be included in my kit was a double ended USB C charging cable – oh and the usual paper work.
Geekvape Obelisk 120 FC box mod
I was sent the silver coloured version of the mod.
Standing at 80mm tall with a tank diameter of 25mm and a width of 45mm the Obelisk 120 chassis is constructed of Zinc-Alloy with almost mirror like side panels.
The GeekVape Obelisk 120 Body
Sadly Geekvape has moved away from the indestructible, waterproof, dust-proof and shock-proof design of the Aegis line, making this device look totally different from what we are used to seeing from the company – they say that the innovation is on the inside this time!
The body has chamfered edging and the back has 2 lines milled for decoration, the device is comfortable to hold in the hand.
The clean straight lines give an interesting fresh look to the device.
On looking at the top of the mod you will note it is flat and that the connection is slightly off centre.
The 810 connection has been recessed in to the body with a gold plated spring loaded connection pin and well turned threading, whatever topper you put on the device will sit nice and flush.
The bottom of the mod has all the relevant information printed, however with this silver version the info is quite faint to read!
The GeekVape Obelisk 120 Face
Out of the box the Obelisk comes with some charge to it, the TFT screen is colour and measures in at 0.96in.
The mod has the normal fire and adjustment buttons which are made of a plastic material.
The GeekVape Obelisk 120 Sides
The side panels have a mirror like quality to them, if moved in the light you can see a swirl pattern in them – “I feel they could be scratch prone” they are also big finger print magnets!
On the right side to the screen is the USB C charge port.
For advertising the panels both sides have the word “Geekvape” printed on them.
GeekVape Obelisk 120 FC Kit Options
While I was sent the mod only version, Geekvape have released the kit in several different versions, i.e. with or without the charger all other kits include a rather nice looking tank the Obelisk Z Tank.
Charging the Geekvape Obelisk 120
This is really strange while the kit comes with a double ended USB C charging cable!
I don’t have a USB C adaptor so I had to source a USB to USB C cable from elsewhere LOL.
Be aware – while advertised on the box as a fast 15 minute charge! Without the charge kit the mod will not charge at the fast rate! But will charge on USB 2.
How Does the Geekvape Obelisk 120 FC Perform?
For this review I will be using the mod with my Vapefly Core RTA with my own DIY dual Kanthal Fused Clapton coils, which work out to around 0.13Ω!
I will be using Kwik Vape “Wild Cherry” a locally produced E-Liquid to me, see what I thought of it at the end of this review.
Basic Operation Of the GeekVape Obelisk 120!
The GeekVape Obelisk 120 has a very familiar menu system, if you have used one of the Aegis mods you will find this menu system very easy to navigate.
- To turn the device on or off hit the fire button X5 fast.
- X3 presses of the fire button allows you to change the operating mode from Power to TC SS, TC TCR, VPC, BYPASS as well as activating the OTG reverse charge.
- To change the theme colour press the adjustment buttons together while in the X3 mode.
- While in TC mode you can scroll through to lock your resistance as well as change the TCR values and Puff count.
- To alter any adjustments use the + or – buttons.
- Pressing + and – together locks the adjustment function, the mod will still fire.
- By pressing the fire button with either adjustment button you will be able to change the brightness of the screen.
Geekvape Obelisk 120 Mod in use
To be frightfully honest, while I like the mod and it functions very well, at this time I cannot test the kit to its full potential without the charge kit!
The device looks great and works well with all of the menu settings!
But one of my biggest complaints is the battery case is it’s a real finger print magnet, which sets off my OCD so I am constantly wiping the mod with a cloth!
Using these 0.13Ω dual coils in my Core RTA at 60w, I can get around 5 hours vape time!
Of course I have tested the mod with several other toppers such as the Innokin Aries 2 RTA at 20w with very good results, I get over 2 days vape time!
However I found with one of my favourite tanks the VooPoo Maat tank even at 75w it lacked the normal oomph I get with other devices, as one might expect the vape time is reduced at higher wattage.
My experience charging the mod
I guess my biggest disappointment with the kit is the double ended USB C charge cable, I can’t understand why Geekvape have not included a standard USB to USB C cable in the box?
The charge time was stupidly long with USB 2! In fact I thought it had just stopped after 2 hours, it took another 2 hours to complete charging!
On the back of the box Geekvape state that this is a fast charging 15 minute device – what they have left out is the Obelisk 120 will only charge at the faster rate with the optional charge kit!
Power Bank option (OTG)
I can confirm that the OTG power bank option works well with my mobile phone charging it to full charge without problem.
A quick word about the e liquid I have been using during this review, KV “Wild Cherry”.
This is a new liquid to me while a very nice fruity flavour I felt it had something missing so I added ½ an ice shot to the bottle, now it reminds me of summers spent as a child drinking ice cold Corona Cherryade in my Grans garden!
Pros
- Good quality and great looking
- Very well designed
- Functions well as a mod and as a power bank
- Comfortable in the hand
- Great battery life
Cons
- Finger print magnet
- Not a fast charge mod without charge kit
- No USB to USB C charge cable in box
Final Review Verdict
I am impressed by the mod as it stands it looks good and functions well, however I can’t get over the fact that Geekvape has not included a standard USB to USB C cable in the box, to me it feels like they are pushing you to spend more to buy the charge kit!
Would I recommend the Geekvape Obelisk 120 FC Mod?
I’m conflicted, on one hand this unit functions well in all modes, on the other the time it takes to charge the mod without the charge kit is silly!
Would I buy this kit again due loss or damage?
Personally “No”, I have however grudgingly spent the extra money and ordered the charge kit!
I am still quite new to vapes? What I’d like to know is what are the differences of these modes “Power to TC SS, TC TCR, VPC, BYPASS” and how does it affect the performance of the Obelisk 120 FC
Hi there we have plenty of guides to explain these modes – take a look at the following…
Power is usually – Variable Wattage and/or Variable Voltage – read our guide here to Variable power mods
Temperature control (TC) is explained in our guide to temperature control
VPC is usually variable power curves and this is the guide to power / temperature curves
And finally Bypass makes your device act like a semi-mechanical mod – we tell you all about Mechanical v regulated mods here.
Hope this helps!
