Today I’m testing out the new Elfbar ELFA Pro pod kit.
You may recall I took a look at the original version of this one with the Elf Bar ELFA Prefilled Pod Kit Review.
To all intents and purpose it resembles a disposable vape. It has the same lightweight and portable form factor but that’s literally only half of the vape story.
It uses removable pods and a sustainable, rechargeable battery section making it more pocket friendly while reducing impact on the environment.
The Elfbar ELFA Pro follows on from its predecessor. Naturally as an upgrade it has a trick or two up its sleeve. So let’s see what’s changed.
What Can We Expect From the Elfbar ELFA Pro Pod Kit?
Ok, there’s some good news straight out the gate…
Backwards Compatible
The Elfbar ELFA Pro uses the same battery section as the original. Good news because if you already have the ELFA, then the new upgraded pods can be used with it.
Instant money saver, right there!
The battery relies on Type C charging and is rated to a capacity of 500mAh.
That should be more than enough for the pods, holding a maximum of 2ml E-liquid with 20mg (2%) salt nicotine already included.
ECS Technology
Speaking of the prefilled pods, that’s where you can expect to find the changes.
They now use ECS tech. This basically stands for “E-liquid Coil Separation”.
Elfbar have already used this tech and details surrounding QUAC can be found in our Elfbar MATE 500 Device review. So you might wanna check that one out at some point, too.
As the name suggests, the pods arrive with the E-liquid isolated from the mesh coil. To fill the pod you simply need to push up on the pod base.
This forces E-liquid into the pod chamber, saturating both coil and cotton in the process.
This should reduce the likelihood of a burnt taste while ensuring the flavour experience is as fresh as it can be straight out of the box.
If there was ever any design flaw with the original ELFA it was with the blacked out pod windows. That’s been addressed with the upgrade. Remaining E-liquid levels can now be viewed.
Nice one, Elfbar.
When Pod Meets Battery
So you may be wondering how the pods attach to the ELFA Pro? Quite simple…
By two magnets on the base of the pods. They also act as connecting points for both coil and battery contacts.
Deep inside the battery we can see (by way of a small hole) how air is drawn up to feed the mesh coil.
As you can see from the above picture, airflow is highly restricted which should ensure a decent MTL (Mouth To Lung) vape.
Colour Schemes and Flavours
It looks like the colour schemes of the ELFA Pro have been expanded over the original.
You can now pick from Black, Navy Blue, Aurora Purple and Blue and Twilight Blue, Brown, Green and Pink.
A pod is included with each kit and whatever flavour you get seems to be dependent on the chosen colour scheme.
When it comes to flavours there’s more than enough to choose from ranging from fruits, drinks and sweet based profiles. I think there’s over 30 currently on offer.
You purchase the pre-filled pods in twin blister packs. Yet another way of saving money over traditional disposable vapes.

Cool. Let’s see how well the pods hold up against the flavours of a disposable vape. And if a single charge of the battery is worthy of 600 puffs.
Massive shout out to Vapeclub for sending these over for the purposes of an honest, unbiased review. It’s very much appreciated.
Tropical Fruit
Elfbar Says:
Tropical Fruit is a fusion of exotic flavours. Sweet, juicy and tangy notes come through in each puff.
I Say:
This one’s packed with flavour and has all the hallmarks of a fresh, fruity beverage.
The inhale produces a nice cooling effect on the throat, not so strong as to overwhelm. Actually helping to boost the overall taste in my opinion.
It’s bolstered by a smattering of sweetness which is evident as soon as you inhale, leaving a nice ‘wetness’ on the taste buds after the vape.
Tropical Fruit is really a combination of exotic fruits where I feel Pineapple is the stand out flavour. It’s laced with complementary back notes of Mango and Grapefruit.
In some ways I’m reminded of a Fruit Salad sweet but there does seem to be an element of soda running through on the exhale. But nothing to place it in the gummy department.
So it’s kind of like a hybrid sweet / beverage style profile.
The overall blend is consistently tasty with an exhale that’s actually quite rich and tangy. You’ll notice those attributes as an after taste too.
Tropical Fruit has more than enough going on to keep me occupied.
It’s a quality vape that’s appropriate for any season of the year, in all honesty.
Lemon Mint
Elfbar Says:
Lemon Mint is a cool citrus blend. The flavour of juicy, sharp Lemon is layered with frosty, sweet and slightly floral Mint.
I Say:
Another great blending of flavour and I’m beginning to think that’s why the ECS pods do more than just attempt to replicate the experiences of a disposable vape.
The ratio of Lemon, Mint, sweetness and cooling agent is absolutely bang on.
You get each in equal measures which isn’t often the case with its disposable rival.
OK, so that sweetness is the underlying theme in Lemon Mint but it’s tinged with a zingy freshness from the Lemon that reacts perfectly with the coolness of the vape.
Combined with a fresh Mint that feels sandwiched in between, we get a rather distinct, original blending of flavour.
The overall taste is actually lifted by the inclusion of Mint and is consistent from opening inhale to closing exhale.
I find Lemon Mint to be incredibly moreish with an instantly enjoyable taste.
A case of multi blending at its best. Elfbar have created another great flavour to add to the range, methinks.
Pear
Elfbar Says:
Pear is a simple, sweet flavour. Ripe, soft and juicy notes come through in every puff, for a faithful recreation of this orchard fruit.
I Say:
A very strong flavour but still not as intense as your average disposable vape.
I got more than enough sweetness on the inhale combined with a nice cool blast to the back of the throat. The great thing is, it doesn’t rip the throat either so not an unnecessary distraction to the flavour.
As for that flavour? It’s Pear that’s for certain and to be honest not a bad replication of the juicy fruit.
I’d say it falls somewhere in between being on the candy sweet side but also with some very natural tasting characteristics.
The flavour holds up very well too throughout exhale and leaves a pool of sweetness at the end which is quite appealing.
This could easily have been flavour intensive but Elfbar have reined things in a bit to ensure a nice refreshing fruity vape at all times.
Pineapple Lemon Soda
Elfbar Says:
Pineapple Lemon Soda combines the flavour of sweet, juicy Pineapple with tangy Lemon. On the exhale, you’ll taste a fizzy note of soda.
I Say:
There’s a strong aroma of Pineapple when tearing this one out of the blister pack so I was expecting the inevitable.
Imagine my surprise when I exhaled what is quite possibly one of the best flavour blends I’ve experienced for quite a while.
Yes, it’s just as much about the zingy Lemon as it is Pineapple. I was curious as to how these two flavours would react to each other but, by Jove! Elfbar have pulled it off rather superbly!
OK, the taste does always bend towards a candy inspired flavour and at times I am almost reminded of a Lemsip flu tonic, but it’s all about that decent blending, in my opinion.
You never get one fruit without the other and they overlap each other in the best possible way.
To add to the enjoyment, sweetness levels run somewhere down the centre, never intensifying the flavour. As I’ve stated – quality blending.
Add a sensible layering of Ice and you’ve got yourself a mouth-watering and taste bud stimulating vape.
Top vape drawer stuff is Pineapple Lemon Soda.
Strawberry Ice Cream
Elfbar Says:
Strawberry Ice Cream delivers the authentic taste of a frozen dessert, featuring juicy Strawberry combined with rich Vanilla and a cool ice exhale.
I Say:
Ooh! Strawberries and Cream. That’s what I’m reminded of when opening the blister pack and having a whiff. A very pleasant aroma.
That’s pretty much what I get on the exhale too. OK, the Strawberry content isn’t exactly as natural tasting as I’d like but it is shrouded to a degree by the creamier aspects.
You really have to think of a Strawberry thick shake – like Yazoo or Shmoo. That should give you some idea of what to expect.
I honestly don’t pick out any Vanilla but there’s still a richness to the exhale and the milky notes are dispersed in abundance, that’s for sure.
The sweeter aspects of the vape are well handled too. It tends to build, not so noticeable on the inhale but around mid-point on the way out. Leaving its mark on the taste buds post vape.
I like it when sweetener is applied this way – it gives the overall flavour experience an added dimension while still always complementing the main ingredients.
The cooling agent can be a bit distracting, if I’m honest. Ice Cream simply doesn’t have this much of a lasting effect on the ‘ole tonsils.
Strawberry Ice Cream isn’t quite as mouth-watering as some of the others in the bunch but if you’ve a sweet tooth and enjoy a nice Strawberry milkshake why not dive in?
Wild Orange
Elfbar Says:
Wild Orange delivers a punchy citrus flavour with the sweet, tangy and citrus notes of Orange.
I Say:
Quite a refreshing Orange taste and relatively strong too.
It does feel like Elfbar have restrained the flavour intensity again. Don’t get me wrong – that’s no bad thing and once again separates the ELFA Pro from the excessive sweetness of a disposable vape.
So the inhale feels very smooth and is accompanied by a nice soothing chill to line the throat. Although it feels as though lots of sweetness is being pulled in, it actually seems to dispense more effectively on the exhale.
It grooves with the citric nature of the fruit as opposed to overwhelming the taste experience.
As for the taste – As I say, it’s unmistakably Orange but not quite as Mother Nature intended. That’s to say more like an Orange Cordial or Soda as opposed to freshly squeezed.
Overall another mouth-watering experience and where a single fruit is able to do its thing.
And it does its thing very consistently with each and every vape.
Battery Performance and Number of Puffs
I managed six hours use before the battery needed a recharge. It’s important to note that there was still E-liquid left in the 2ml pod. For this reason I didn’t notice any flavour degradation.
So taking things into consideration I would have to conclude (under my own vaping patterns) that a single charge is capable of up to 450 puffs and that the individual pods themselves are indeed capable of 600 puffs.
The recharging process itself was a little disappointing. It took 90 minutes to complete.
You’re left with a single solid White ring around the base of the battery for the entire duration of charge. There’s no way of gauging charge status, in other words.
Once the cycle is complete the LED simply switches off.
Oh – in case you were wondering. It is possible to vape while charging.
Final Review Verdict
In terms of the device there were always going to be pros and cons.
Let’s get Negative Neil out the way first!
It did annoy me that there wasn’t a charging cable included with the device.
Yes, I know a flavour pod is included but not everyone has a type C USB charging cable. Especially those brand new to the vape scene.
The LED responds when removing the pod but not when attaching. I found that a bit odd, since there’s a knack with popping them in. If they don’t click into place, you can’t use them properly.
A reassuring flash of the LED would have made more sense.
You’re also stuck with that solid White LED at all stages of the charging cycle. So you only ever know when it’s good to go once the LED switches off.
Onto the positives and there’s plenty of them.
The MTL vape is excellent. Not too tight and not so loose as to warrant a restrictive lung hit. Vapour production is great too given the high resistance of the mesh coil.
Pod swapping. Or should I say flavour swapping. Tired of Orange? Swap it for Apple. Takes a few seconds.
Being sealed, these pods don’t leak so there’s no worry on that score.
The ability to view remaining E-liquid levels. Full marks to Elfbar for addressing that one!
The ELFA Pro pod kit looks very much like a disposable vape. Therefore it follows those devices in being both lightweight and pocket friendly.
Above all I feel the ELFA Pro pod kit offers a high degree of versatility. The flavour is better than a disposable vape and it also works out to be a more cost effective alternative to boot.
A highly recommended little pod kit.
