If you fancy a refillable and rechargeable Elf Bar – we may have the solution in the Elf Bar ELFX pod kit!

Elfbar Elfx review

Elf Bar is arguably the most recognisable name in the industry right now. Thanks to their Elf Bar and Lost Mary disposable vape ranges which are available absolutely everywhere!

The brand picked up the ‘Best Disposable Vape’ award in the 2022 and 2023 Ecigclick awards.

Best disposable 2023

The ELFX is far from Elf Bar’s first foray into pod kits however, having released devices such as the Mate 500 and ELFA PRO for example. They have also got the ELFLIQ e-liquid range, which boasts all the best-selling Elf Bar flavours in E-Liquid form!

What Can We Expect From The Elf Bar ELFX Pod Kit?

As disposables are potentially on their way out in the UK, manufacturers are turning their attention to pod kits. Which offer a much longer lifespan than single use disposable vapes and are far more environmentally friendly too.

Plus, you can fill them with your e-liquid of choice and reuse them many times over!

The ELFX is the latest refillable pod system from Elf Bar and it is designed to be a step-up from single use disposable vapes.

You’ve got a built in 1000mAh battery here, designed to power you through the day and up to a whopping 30 watts worth of power from this device with the 0.4ohm coil (Available to buy separately), upto 25W with the 0.6oHm coil and upto 17W with the 0.8Ohm coil.

Plus, recharging is made easy thanks to the USB-C charging port.

Elf Bar ELFX pods have a TPD-friendly 2ml capacity, with a handy top-filling system. This means you don’t need to remove the pod from the device when it is time to fill it back up.

The pods come in resistances of 0.6ohm and 0.8ohm and have built in QUAQ dual mesh coils for increased performance and richer flavour.

Also present on the device is adjustable airflow, making it compatible with mouth to lung (MTL) and restricted direct lung (RDL) vaping. Unsure of what those terms mean? Then check out our Guide to Vaping Styles!

The ELFX has been designed to work flawlessly with Elf Bar’s ELFLIQ range of e-liquids, meaning that you can enjoy your favourite Elf Bar flavours in this device!

You’ve got a selection of six different colours to pick from, you are able to choose from Black, Blue, Grey, Purple, Silver and Pink finishes.

Elf Bar ELFX Design & Build Quality

The ELFX is a bit on the tall side compared to other pod systems out there, but it is quite lightweight. The 115.4mm x 25.5mm x 15.3mm dimensions actually translate to quite a sleek profile here.

It’s certainly a comfortable device to hold and use!

elf bar elfx in hand

I liked the fact that all edges are rounded, which means you’ve got nothing sharp sticking into your palm when you grip the device.

The form factor is great and I can’t fault the looks of this pod system too.

There is a shiny metallic finish around the top of the device, but this is prone to picking up scratches and fingerprints!

The ELFX and Elf Bar logos are printed quite prominently on the device with the CE marking located at the side.

Also on the side of the device is the sliding airflow control system. At the base, you’ll find the USB-C charging port.

elfbar elfx battery and pod

Elf Bar’s QUAQ dual mesh coil ELFX pods connect magnetically to the device.

There is wobble present if you grip the pod and give it a wiggle but I haven’t experienced a single issue with a pod accidentally coming loose from the device.

These have a top filling system (which we will cover in more detail below) and a built in coil. So once your pod starts to taste burnt or there is a lack of flavour, you just dispose of the pod and replace it with a new one.

With the pod in the device you can see exactly how much e-liquid you have left without needing to remove the pod which is handy!

RGB Lights

The shiny area at the top is also where the bright, immersive RGB lighting is located.

The RGB lights become noticeable when inserting a new pod, taking a puff on the device, charging or if a safety protection kicks in.

Quick Start Guide

How To Fill The Elf Bar ELFX Pod

ELFX pods have a top filling system, with the filling port located at the side of the pod near the top of it (top-side filling anyone?). This is handy as it means you don’t need to remove the pod in order to refill it.

fill port

  • Simply lift up the silicon filling port cover and pop your bottle nozzle in, making sure not to overfill otherwise e-liquid will come spilling back out.how to fill the elf bar elfx pod

This has been designed to work best with ELFLIQ e-liquids, so 50/50 VG/PG nicotine salt based e-liquid is a good match here!

If this is a brand new pod that you are filling for the first time, let the e-liquid sit inside it for five minutes before taking a puff. This is so that the cotton can fully absorb the e-liquid. This step will prolong the lifespan of your pod and reduce the chance of nasty, burnt hits occurring.

It’s a simple and easy to use system that makes filling your pod dead easy!

Operation

No buttons or anything to mess around with here, simply fill up a pod, pop it in and vape away!

You’ve got the ability to adjust the airflow of the device using the smooth airflow slider located on the side. This allows you to make the vape looser or tighter depending on your preferences.

The RGB lighting isn’t just for show here, it also functions as an indicator of battery life.

To see how much battery life you have left, check which colour is displayed when you insert or remove a pod.

Green means you have 100-80% left, Greeny-Yellow is 80-60%, Yellow is 60-40%, Orange is 40-20% and Red is less than 20%.

8 second vape cut off, short circuit, high temperature and low battery safety protections are built into the device and the RGB lighting will flash Red if one of these has been triggered.

Also when taking a puff the RGB lighting will flash a random selection of colours.

If you aren’t a fan of the RGB lighting, you can turn it off entirely by quickly removing and reinserting the pod three times.

Charging

The ELFX charges via USB-C and you handily get a USB-C cable included with the kit.

elfx usbc charge port

Plug this into the base of the device and the RGB lighting will illuminate to indicate that the ELFX is charging. This will switch off once it has fully charged.

And this usually takes just under an hour from flat to full.

How Does The Elf Bar ELFX Perform?

You get both the 0.6ohm and 0.8ohm QUAQ dual mesh coil ELFX pods with the kit, which allows you to decide which one you prefer.

These have been designed to work best with Elf Bar’s range of ELFLIQ e-liquids, a selection of which Elf Bar generously sent along with the ELFX for this review!

There’s no adjustable wattage settings here, power output is smartly selected by the in-built chip and determined by the resistance of the coil / battery charge remaining.

Two pods come with he kit with two others being available separately. In addition to the below we also have:

  • 0.4Ohm | Fires at 30W
  • 1.0Ohm | Fires at 13W
  • 1.2Ohm | Fires at 10W

0.6ohm Pod

The 0.6ohm pod is the most powerful of the two. This is the one you’ll want to use to take advantage of 25W power output of the ELFX.

This is primarily designed for restricted direct lung vaping, so an airier draw. However you can close the airflow down and still happily vape mouth to lung with this one.

0.8ohm Pod

The 0.8ohm pod still works great for airy, restricted direct lung vaping but is better suited to having the airflow closed down for a mouth to lung vape. This coil allows for a max of 17W power.

I felt the flavour was more intense that way and just seemed to suit the pod better.

To me the flavour was great with both of these pods and they really bought out the flavour notes in my ELFLIQ e-liquids. I was a big fan of the Rinbo flavour and the Pineapple Ice tasted even better than the disposable version – much more pineapple-y!

Thanks to the instant activation system, when you take a draw on the device there’s absolutely no noticeable delay in the coils firing, you just get flavour delivered to your palate immediately.

elf bar elfx pod vape - blue

I did notice that occasionally I would get a bit of e-liquid in my mouth when taking a draw on the pod when the battery was quite low, but this was fairly infrequent. This is due to the power being too low to fully vaporise the e-liquid.

Airflow is adjustable and with it fully open you can get a pretty decent amount of dense vapour production! Thanks to the adjustable airflow, the ELFX handles both mouth to lung and restricted direct lung vaping effortlessly.

A 1000mAh battery is built into the device which is more than enough to last most people an entire day, it certainly did just fine for me!

Though when the RGB light starts displaying Orange, you’ll want to recharge the ELFX as the vape will start getting pretty weak.

Does It Vape Like An Elf Bar Disposable?

In a word, no.

This is capable of putting out much more power than a disposable Elf Bar can. Even with the airflow closed right down I couldn’t really replicate the tight, cigarette-like mouth to lung vape that I would expect from the disposable version.

elf bar elfx pink

You’ll get a more flavoursome vape from the Elf Bar ELFX than you would from a disposable however. Plus you have the added bonus of being able to fill the pods with your own e-liquids.

If the vape you get from a disposable Elf Bar is much more preferable to you, then it is worth considering looking at the Elf Bar ELFA PRO pod kit!

Pros

  • Restricted direct lung and mouth to lung vaping
  • Both 0.6ohm and 0.8ohm pod variations are included in the kit
  • Full e-liquid capacity is visible when the pod is in the device
  • Good lifespan from the pods, can get plenty of refills here
  • Easy to fill the pod without needing to remove it from the device
  • Work superbly well with Elf Bar ELFLIQ e-liquids and other nicotine salt based e-liquids!
  • Long-lasting battery life

Cons

  • Occasionally get e-liquid spitting back into my mouth when the battery is low
  • Need to remove and re-insert the pod to check battery life
  • Vape becomes very weak when battery is low
  • Metallic finish is prone to picking up scratches

Final Verdict

I’ve tried out the Elf Bar Mate 500 in the past and in terms of performance, the Elf Bar ELFX absolutely blows it away in my opinion. This is an excellent upgrade from Elf Bar!

This is down to the increased power from the device in conjunction with the QUAQ dual mesh coils present inside the ELFX pod, delivering a great flavour experience.

Battery capacity receives a bump up to 1000mAh which makes all the difference when you are looking for a pod system that will last you through the day. You can definitely power through some long vaping sessions with this device!

If you are transitioning over from disposables, you’ll find you’ll get a much better vape from an ELFX. With the added bonus of being able to use your own choice of e-liquids, flavours and nicotine strengths. Plus you can reuse this device over and over again.

Lastly the price is very competitive, you are getting a lot here for the price of a couple of disposables!

Vaping full time since 2012, started on cigalikes for a while then curiosity got the better of me and I moved onto an vape pens, a month or two later I was seeing people walking around with these interesting shiny tubes and I thought 'I gotta get one of those'. Before I knew it a trip down to my local B&M got me my first VW mod, an Innokin SVD, paired with an iClear 30, and I was hooked. Soon after that I was jumping to VW mods both box and tube shaped, before I then made the jump to rebuilding and thus sub ohming, with my first RDA and mech mod. These days I've come back to convenience and mainly use pods, disposables and the VOOPOO Drag H40. Most importantly I am still loving vaping!
