With all the e-cigarette starter kits currently on the market you might find choosing the right one for you a bit of a mountain to climb.
But I think with the K2 from Aspire we might have made that climb more of a molehill than a mountain – this is a superb vaping starter kit.
The K2 Starter Kit from Aspire
From its design to most importantly the way it performs – this little beauty stands head and shoulders above other vaping pens I have reviewed.
So let’s see why the K2 has got my head in the clouds and why this is one of the best vape pens for new vapers.
In the Box
The K2 starter kit comes in a slim plastic case with black wrapping and silver writing making this e-cigarette stand out from the crowd.
- 1 X Aspire K2 tank 1.8ml
- 1 X Aspire k2 battery 800mAH
- 1 X Atomiser coils – Kanthal 1.60ohm
- 1 X Micro USB cable
Everything is packed nicely and covered with a black paper wrap – which also has your scratch n check for authenticity sticker.
Key Features
The obvious place to start is the fact this really is a simple plug n vape starter kit.
There’s nothing here that would faze even the biggest technophobe amongst us – well maybe the filling but I’ll get onto that.
Aspire has also managed to make the K2 TPD compliant – which means the tank at 1.8ml is just a shade under the ‘legal’ requirement of tanks no more than 2mls – read more about the TPD here..
Another obvious feature is the design – which again I’ll get into in a moment – this vaping pen looks stunning – from the battery design to the tank – the whole thing is a pleasure to look at and hold.
Design and Build Quality
When I was a kid I loved getting a new fountain pen – and first glance at the Aspire K2 and I was whisked back to my childhood – this looks like an expensive piece of kit.
First up the battery is covered in a kind of two tone 3D herringbone effect that pings this vape pen right out and screams quality.
This vaping pen looks absolutely fabulous darling 😉
The fire button is shaped like an eye and is responsive without any of that rattle I dislike.
The design team has also given the tank a chimney or stem that is also pleasing to the eye and shows the top of the coil and the six juice holes which again actually adds to the overall look of the K2 vape pen.
The Delrin drip tip is removable and is around the diameter of a cigarette if a tad smaller.
Even straight out of the box the connections are all silky smooth to screw and unscrew and hand on heart I cannot fault the build or design quality – this is high end at a bargain price.
There’s no airflow control but to be honest I found the K2 didn’t need it delivering the perfect vape.
How Does the Aspire K2 Vape Pen Perform?
How To Fill
OK let’s get the filling out of the way first.
I’ve been vaping for over four years now and have tried numerous different ways to fill a tank – so you’d think this little vape pen would present little or no challenges.
However…
The instruction manual doesn’t tell you how to fill the tank so it’s left to you.
Forgive me if I’m labelling all newcomers to vaping as dumb as me [I promise I’m not lol] but the filling of the K2 did have me scratching my head for a couple of minutes.
Eventually – using reading glasses and a lamp – I realized my first instinct was correct.
This is a bottom fill – but my goodness the gaps to drizzle in your e-liquid are the tiniest of fissures rather than gaping crevasses.
So to be clear…
- You’ll need to remove the tank and turn it upside down and then tilt it.
- Place the point of your e-liquid tight against the glass and gently squirt in your juice
- Avoid the centre tube!
It’s a bit fiddly but you’ll soon get the hang of it and even with my clumsy fingers I didn’t spill a drop!
How Does the K2 Vape?
One word – Wow!!!
The 1.60 kanthal coils delivers a superb flavour profile.
The throat hit is second to none and the vapour production blew me away for such a small tank.
The 800mAH battery packs a punch and fully charged I managed a day and a half of vaping.
Given this is MTL [mouth to lung] vaping – just like a cigarette – the 1.8ml tank took half a day of regular vaping before needing a refill – a juice guzzler this isn’t.
As far as performance goes I cannot fault the K2 from Aspire at all – this is almost perfect.
What I Like
I adore the design of the K2 – from the pattern on the battery to the vase shaped chimney inside the generous tank – this is quality.
The flavour profile is the best I’ve tasted in a vape pen and I’ve tested very many – my favourite high nicotine e liquid tasted better than ever.
Vapour off this little beauty is superb giving slightly more than you’d expect smoke from a cigarette and the throat hit is nigh on perfect.
This is the closest I’ve come apart from the Wow Vapor range to smoking a real cigarette making for me the K2 the absolute perfect beginners kit.

What I Don’t Like
Maybe just the fiddly filling – but it really is a simple enough thing to do once you’ve worked it out! So don’t let that put you off!
Final Review Verdict
If a vaping manufacturer is considering bringing out a model called the Everest – they’d better make sure it’s a superb piece of vaping kit – because the K2 is probably the best e-cigarette starter kit I’ve ever tried.
If I dropped the K2 off the top of Ben Nevis would I replace it?
Actually I’d probably forget summiting and climb back down to find it and if I couldn’t I’d buy three.
Pros
- Superb design
- Ease of use
- Fantastic flavour
- Excellent throat hit
- Amazing vapour production
- Battery lasts an age
- Easy on the e-liquid
Cons
- Filling can be a little fiddly
I bought one yesterday and I love the design. My problem with the K2 is that my usual e liquid feels like it’s ripping my lungs when I inhale. It also tastes a little bit chemically. I don’t have the issue when I use the same e liquid in my Kanger EVOD. One final thing is there isn’t much vapour coming out. When I watch videos of people using it they have loads of vapour. .
Hey great review it’s a nice vape but no way does the 800mah battery last . I’m charging it twice a day ?
I had the K2 and found its a great repalcement for my tobacco habit, but i just misplaced it. So wondering how does it stack up today vs other similar devices (Nord AIO in particular) ? Im a huge fan of flavour and not so much on throat burn, and the K2 was very enjoyable.
Also always been wondering if you can attach different tanks on the battery as the thread seems to be same on a lot of these.
Hey Sal,
Despite the K2 being an older kit it’s still a solid performer. The fact that it is still selling in many places a couple of years after it’s releases says a lot. Many kits are replaced and\or not available once they have been out for this amount of time.
Having said that the Nord is a great bit of kit as well if you did fancy a change, you can check out Kevin’s recent review here. Another reviewer we have, Michelle, also loves the Nord pod and uses it on a regular basis.
If you have something that you are happy with and you are on a tight budget I sometimes think it’s worth sticking with a product you know works for you.
If your budget can stretch to both devices then there is never any harm having a backup kit or to use them in rotation.
As for other tanks on the battery, yes it can take other tanks..but.. you need to keep in mind the diameter of the tank you can use without a causing excessive overhang and the resistance (ohms) of the coil in the tank. I believe the resistance is 1.6ohm so you would be best staying around this with any other tank you use.
Let us know what you decide to do, be interesting to hear 🙂
Do you charge it on or off?
I don’t think it makes a difference Jim..
I bought one about a month ago and didn’t have any problems until today. I can’t seem o detach the battery and the coil to fill it. Any advise on how to loosen it? Has anyone else had this problem with there K2?
Hey Carol.. Sounds like the tank has been screwed on too tight.. So if you can’t actually get the tank off you may be able to do the following:
I’ve got one in front of me now and if I grip the bottom of the tank (while on the battery) where the airflow holes are, I can unscrew the top section of the tank by holding the metal top section and glass.
This leaves the base and the coil attached to the battery and should allow you to fill. Can you unscrew that way?
Failing that you may need something else to grip the tank (something rubber based?) or if there is someone that may have a stronger grip on them to see if they can unscrew.
Let us know how you get on though..
I’m deciding between this and an Edura t18e. I’ve read a few problems that people have with the Endura but next to none with the Aspire k2. Can you advise any? New to vaping (besides a blu cigalike and a vype pen). I’m a roll up smoker between 10-15 a day
I’m looking between either this or the Endura t18e. New to vaping (besides owning a blu cigalike, and a vype pen). Any recommendations? Read loads of problems with the Edura but next to none with this one. I’m a 10-15 a day roll up smoker.
Both are good Hannah although the K2 is probably a little more beginner user friendly though.
I hear from a lot of people though that the K2 has been spot on for them when coming straight off tobacco so I can definitely recommend this kit for sure.
Let us know how you get on.
Cheers
Also consider the Innokin T20-S Hannah – it is wonderful and the leaking issues from the T18 coils have been cured!

Can u use the k2 head on a mini stick
Hi Colette,
not sure what a mini stick is. If you can give me more details I can have a look. Do you have this device at the moment? If so what tank do you currently use and what resistance (ohm) coil?
Thanks
Jonny
Could you please advise me on the best ecig for a mouth to lung hit
I currently have a cool fire VI with an aspire cleito and a tc100 with an isub g
Non of them seem to be working for me…I smoke about 30 a day so need the mouth to lung hit, could I get this with the thicker dripper liquids? Thanks
Hi Lauren,
This kit, the Aspire K2, is a good one for a MTL vape. What you need to be looking at is making sure you have the right nicotine strength to ensure you are getting a high enough strength to curb your cravings. At 30 cigs a day I’d say an 18mg nic strength with a 50PG/50VG e liquid or maximum 60VG/40PG. The thicker dripper liquids are generally suited to direct to lung (sub ohm) devices.
If you aren’t sure about the differences with PG and VG in e liquid check out this guide here.
Anymore questions let me know.
Thanks Jonny
Read all your reviews on the vapour pens and am swaying towards this model however the batter size is holding me back….have you tried the other one from the same manufacturer…..aspire pockex?
Hey Caroline,
Yup.. We reviewed the Aspire Pockex here.
As the coils are a high resistance (1.8ohm) the battery life is still decent for a vape pen. Neil was getting approx 1.5 days. If you can get a full day all is good 🙂
The Pockex does have a larger battery capacity but it also comes with lower resistane coils (0.6Ohm). In short lower resistance coils require more power to work, so willl drain the battery more than a 1.8ohm coil would.
Aspire also have the K3 kit available which has a 1100 mAh battery. You can buy it here, I have been advised more stock is in soon!
Any other questions please ask.
Thanks
Jonny
Just bought one 4 days ago – chose it because of this review. I have been smoking for too many years to admit – so far 5 days and not even craved tobacco and don’t see myself going back – why would you, no smelly tobacco smoke and no yellow staining. Love it!!!
Great to hear Y! Keep it up 🙂
Just bought one…. Y,our information was very good thank you
