Hive 200w Mod
Look to be well designed the quality is good; the frame is constructed from Aluminium Alloy with a resin battery door.
Front
The Hive 200 has a 1.3inch Colourful TFT Hexagon screen that is bright and very easy to read, and is surrounded by (mine) a holographic carbon fibre sticker, 2 plastic regulatory adjustment buttons and ARTERY® branding the front.
Top and Bottom
The top has a SS 510 connection point that has a a gold plated spring loaded pin, the threads are a little shallow but well turned, the SS plate has a lined pattern engraved on it along with 2 hatch screws.
The bottom has battery venting along with all the normal copyrights, CE and safety marks, there is a nail slot to help remove the door.
Sides
The first side is blank lol, the other houses the hexagon SS fire button which also acts as the action button for the menu, below this is the micro USB which can handle balanced charging, at this time there is no firmware update available, but I am sure if one becomes available it would be found on the Artery website.
Battery Door
Made of aluminium with a resin panel, it’s very light weight, the door has a wasp logo embossed on to a hexagon shape along with “hive 200” as advertising, The other side has 4 magnets that marry to those inside the case, the door fits extremely well with no movement.
The inside of the mod has a gray plastic battery sled with Aero stamped into it,The connection points are gold plated with the uppermost ones spring loaded the orientation marks are small but clear, you have a battery cord to help with cell removal.
Basic Setup Guide
Hive sub ohm tank
Run the e-liquid to almost empty before changing the coil, unscrew the base remove and replace the old coil with a new one, decide which tank suits you best and replace the one installed.
- Pre wick the new coil by dripping liquid onto the cotton
- Re assemble the tank
- Close the AF slots
- Remove the top cap and fill with your favourite e-liquid
Set the tank aside for 5-10 minutes before first firing it!
Tip: screw the coil into the base firmly or you will find it still screwed to the chimney section when you come to change it.
Hive 200w
Insert x2 18650 cells.
The mod has multiple safety protections including
And will utilize common wire types for TC and Power modes and will fire as low as 0.08Ω
How Does The Artery Hive 200 TC Kit Perform?
I am using one of the 0.14Ω Mesh Coils supplied with the Hive tank and have filled the bubble glass with C.H Coconut Cappuccino.
With the tank installed on the Artery Hive 200 mod, there is no getting away with how much the setup looks the “Bees Knees”. The chamfered edging make for a comfortable feel in the hand, while the weight is light compared to some dual battery setups, the kit is substantial enough in size that you know it’s there!
Hive Sub Ohm Tank
30w and 50w
As a starting point 30w with the airflow set to a ¼ and a Mouth to Lung (MTL) style vape that was on the cool side with fair vapour production.
With the airflow set to ½ the warmth increased at 50w as did the vapour production with a direct to lung style vape.
60 to 85w
While 60w is my go to with this tank I did push the coil up to 85w, I found the higher the watts for me the hotter the vape became, the vapour production between these values was nice and cloudy.
Coil material
I could not find any indication in the documentation as to the material of the mesh coil I presume it is kanthal, I have used the same coil for over a week now and with different liquids it is still going strong!
Hive 200 TC Mod
With my Drop Dead RDA installed I took the wattage up to 120w while well outside my comfort zone the Hive 200 performed great.
Flavour Mode
The Aero Chip in the Hive 200 allows a unique flavour mode!
With 3 settings:
- Fruit
- Milk
- Coffee
This setting has been designed to enhance the flavour of your e-liquid. To be fair while the taste for me with the various liquids I tried were a little bit crisper, especially mixed fruits, comparing the flavour of the tank to the flavour side by side with my LMC 200 and the Drop Dead RDA using the same liquid and wattage (60w), I can’t say that the flavour was enhanced by much!
I think it’s just a gimmicky selling point however I would like to have seen a setting for mints or menthol liquids included.
Menu control
This has to be one of the easiest menu systems I have used for a long time it’s so simple! I love it.
- X5 presses of the fire button will turn on and off the device
- X3 presses of the fire button to enter the work mode – Power, Temp and Flavour (have sub menus), Voltage, Blacklight (brightness), Power off, Exit menu
- X3 fast for the colour menu: Green Yellow, Orange, Purple, Blue, and White
- Shortcut X2 cycle through the screen colours
- Holding both adjustment buttons together will lock the device
TC Tests
TC with SS316L 60w 420f works fine, minimal banding with my dry test Just a little darkening with the damp test “pass”.
Mod Firing
The mod fires at 0.01s in both Power and TC modes, I had no misfires in the week I have been using this kit.
Chain vaping with an RDA at 60w for 8 toots resulted in the top of the mod casing getting warm due to heat transfer from the RDA.
Battery life is good! X2, 18650’s lasted approx 4.5 hours.
Pros
- A good looking Kit
- Build quality is excellent for both tank and mod
- Design is good for both tank and mod
- Aero Chipset seems to function as stated
- Instant 0.01s fire
- Menu usability is simple
- Good vapour production
- Good flavour production in normal opperation
- Good coil life
- Battery life
Cons
- Heat transfer when using an RDA
- No firmware update available yet
- Flavour mode gimmicky (my opinion)
Final Review Verdict
Considering Artery is known for smaller mods this kit is a bit of a departure for them!
The Artery Hive 200 TC Kit is very easy to use and all functions and options work well. The main selling points for the average vaper are the menu and the screen.
The flavour mode I feel it could be improved a wee bit, or is it just a gimmick? You decide! It’s unusual for me to say I like a stock tank but with the Hive tank I do, it suits the mod very well and works great.
Would I buy the Artery Hive kit again due to loss or destruction? “YES”
